Good Dental Health
Episode 10 | 2m 30sVideo has Closed Captions
Dr. Switzer-Nadasdi talks about the link between good oral health and overall health.
The "rule of two" can help us maintain dental health: brush two minutes twice a day, and see a dental professional twice a year. Using floss, a pick or water flosser can also help remove plaque buildup. Dental checkups are essential because while we can manage our oral hygiene between visits, a dentist is able to detect and prevent problems that are not easy to spot.

You're worth putting the time and money into doing this, and to getting past the fears that you have to reach the level of oral health that you want.
(uplifting calm music) Hi, I'm Dr. Rhonda Switzer-Nadasdi, and today, we're gonna explore the importance of oral health and the connection to our entire body.
Oral health is essential to good overall health.
It's really important that our mouth is as healthy as the rest of our bodies.
- We want you to start above the gum line and then come down.
- Keeping your teeth healthy isn't too complicated.
- And even though the brush looks like it's covering three teeth, really only doing two.
Brushing twice a day for two minutes, now, two minutes might seem like a long time, but really paying attention to what we're doing when we're brushing makes a big difference.
So if you're in there with a brush disturbing all that plaque for two minutes twice a day, you're on the road to success.
Now we also wanna think about what's between the teeth, and our toothbrush doesn't always get there, so using floss or a pick, or a WaterPik can really help get the plaque away.
Having a professional dental care team is really important, and we recommend that you see the dentist by age one.
It's important because the dentist can detect all kinds of other things that may be going on in your body by looking in your mouth and head off things.
So doing preventive therapies, but also looking to see if something's not quite right.
And definitely if something doesn't feel right in there, it probably isn't.
But doing it routinely every six months, getting a checkup is the best prevention you can do.
- Does that feel okay there?
- [Dentist] The rule of two, and it's hidden in my favorite word, tooth.
So we're gonna wanna brush two minutes, twice a day, and see a dental professional twice a year.
Thanks for joining me today on "For Your Good Health."
I hope these tips have been helpful and you'll put them into action.
