Children, I have a special project for you.
Since we just read the story of the first Thanksgiving I want you to think of things you wanna give thanks for.
What do you appreciate?
What are you grateful for?
Write your thoughts on a journal page and turn it in by Friday.
Write at least one thing for each day.
- [Narrator] Megg's face was beaming with excitement.
Her mind was running with ideas.
The 12 o'clock bell rang and the eggs ran out to the playground.
Greggory was feeling unsure about Ms. Poach's project.
- I'm not sure about Ms. Poach's project.
Why do we have to write down what we are grateful for?
Don't we know that already?
- Well, sometimes we don't realize what we have until we write it down.
- That's right, I write my diary every night.
It helps me to see how lucky I am.
What about you, Reggie?
- It's okay, I guess.
- [Narrator] After some lunch and playground fun the eggs went back to class.
(children chattering) (bell rings) After school, Megg and Seggourney were walking home and noticed Benedict sitting on the curb holding his head in his hands.
(birds chirping) - Hey Benedict, why are you sitting there?
Aren't you going home?
- Just leave me alone.
- [Narrator] The girls looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders.
Then they sat next to him on the curb to see if they could help.
- What is it, Benedict?
- I told you to leave me alone.

The girls were telling Greggory and Reggie about Benedict's odd behavior.

He was tangled up in his bike.

I was so used to doing everything without thinking about it like playing baseball, riding my bike, walking to school and even going up the stairs.
But now those things are impossible.
I know this isn't forever, but for now it just makes me sad.
I actually looked forward to doing Ms. Poach's journal assignment because I am grateful for the ability to write.

- Well, my friends took me to see Greggory and that got me thinking about my day.
Greggory was sad because he couldn't do all the things he's used to since he has a broken ankle.
So I began to think of everything I get to do in a day and it made me very grateful.
I'm grateful for my toys, Mom and Dad's hugs, my dog's Scrambler's wet kisses, my grandma's funny jokes, my house, my bike, my video games, yummy food, warm sunshine, our beautiful park to play in, my roller blades.

You are certainly grateful for many things.

- May I share just one more thing Ms. Poach, please - [Narrator] Ms. Poach nodded in agreement.
