Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipMercury is tough to see at the best of times, but with a sliver of a moon and Mercury at its Greatest Elongation -- maybe this week will be your chance, my little star buddies.
Hit the skies just after sunset and look West toward the darkening sky.
You should see bright Venus following the sun below the horizon here -- and then right behind it is TINY little Mercury.
Planets closer to the sun are easiest to see when furthest from the sun on their orbit from our perspective; this is called an ELONGATION.
Spot it all week!
The best part?
If you hit the sky at the same time each night: you ll see the Moon pass Venus, Mercury, and Mars AND then Venus and Mars will switch places soon -- keep an eye on them!
What a time for star-gazing!
Get outside enjoy the warming weather, and keep lookin up!
