Let's explore a real world problem.
We use oil in cars.
Sometimes that oil spills into the oceans, which is not good for marine life, including birds.
This activity will show you how oil can harm birds and what wildlife rescuers are doing to help them.
Let's put water in a cup.
Mix cocoa powder with cooking oil.
Add the oil to the water.
Take your feather and dip it in the cup.
When you pull it out, you'll see your feather is covered in oil.
Let's explore how researchers help the birds.
Try rinsing it with water.
Wiping it with a paper towel and cleaning it with dish soap.
What works best for our feathered friends?
