Seattle Chooses Indigenous Peoples' Day

Season 3 Episode 304 | 8m 39sVideo has Closed Captions

The second Monday of October is now Indigenous Peoples' Day in Seattle.

The resolution to change the name of Columbus Day stems from efforts that began in the 1970s by members of the American Indian Movement. Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebrates the many native tribes of the United States, and recognizes the fact that Columbus was not a hero to the native people, whom he sought to enslave upon his arrival.
