- [Both] And this is our teachable moment!
- Our mission at SLB is to amplify voices of youth and others whose voices often go unheard.
- A great way to do this is through interviewing.
- And listening.
- When interviewing someone, it's important to ask open ended questions.
- An open ended question is one that cannot be answered with a simple yes or no.
For example, do you like ice cream?
Yes or no?
A better question would be, what's your favorite dessert?
- Open ended questions are good because they might lead to a great story.
Now it's your turn.
Think of someone you'd like to interview, perhaps a grandparent or a neighbor.
Come up with three good open ended questions.
Make sure your interviewee is comfortable and ask away.
Be sure to give them time to think, and remember to really listen.
- You might be surprised by what you learn.
