Island Empire: The Story of the Cobbs

Special | 45m 4sVideo has Closed Captions

In 1839 the Cobb family settled on a deserted barrier island off the coast of Virginia.

From director Jim Spione, the story of the Cobbs is a great American tale about uprooting yourself and your family, finding a new home, and through sheer grit, determination, and perseverance through tragedy and setbacks, ultimately thriving in that new place. The Cobbs took a big, empty sand bar and created a vibrant, working community for nearly 100 years.
