He starred in "Billy Bud" on Broadway in 1951 and "The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial" in 1954. He had an acting career in Hollywood and Europe and left it to return to Minnesota. Now as a professor, director and playwright at the University of Minnesota, he is credited with inspiring students to professional careers in the theater.
