My name is Jesus Alcelay and I came from the Basque Country in 1975.
And that is where I, learn and practice my culinary life.
My wife was a student from BSU, and, we fell in love.
And I came to America with her.
I didn't speak English.
So when I came here, I didn't know anything.
Nothing.
Only “thank you.” So in the middle time of 3 or 4 months that I wasn't working, I was watching a lot of television.
I changed to PBS because I used to be, Sesame Street.
I hear that word “nearby,” and, gee, I just put everything together.
It just opened up my my English language.
It makes sense from then on how to say my house is nearby That church, you know, so, like this, I can communicate with people.
And that is my Idaho Public Television story.
