Welcome to Cartoon Academy.
Thanks for toon-ing in.
(jaunty music) (bell rings) We're going to visit the land down under, Australia, and we're going to draw one of my favorite animals a kangaroo and a joey, too.
(upbeat music) You only need three things to be a great cartoonist something to draw on something to draw with and your imagination.
Let's draw.
We're going to start with the eyes.
We have circle and then a letter C, backwards.
This is going to be the mama kangaroo so we want to draw her looking down at the baby kangaroo, or joey.
Let's give some eyelashes.
One, two, three.
One, two, three.
Now for the nose, starting from the base of the eye come out, point, in, up, and a dash.
For the tip of the nose, we add an oval, just leave a little bit of white space as we shade that in.
Now for the mouth.
From the corner right here come down, a letter V up, then follow that down up and around for the jaw.
For the inside of the mouth draw the tongue and then shade in the rest of that.
Next we're going to add the hair on top of the head.
Just a few quick lines like that.
Now the ear we come down slightly, out, in, and add a line.
There's another ear, just sort of sticking right back there.
Next the cheeks, just a fuzzy sort of line like this comes into the neck.
Now we're going to come down from the lower jaw and out.
For the back, same thing in reverse.
Down, and out.
Now we're going to add the arms and hand.
We have a letter V, line out, one, two, three, four and in.
We're going to continue this line down just to the tip of the thumb.
Now for the legs and feet.
The legs and feet actually look like a number two.
We're going to take the base of that two and stretch it out.
It looks like this.
Around with the number two, out and around, and in, and up slightly.
Now we're going to add the tail.
We'll continue the back down and a line like that for the fold.
Come up, around, curl, back in and that.
Now for our pouch.
Line out, down, and in, connect to the foot.
Now add the other foot.
Come out, around then in, and then add a couple lines for paws.
Now to add the baby kangaroo, or joey.
Start with the eyes.
Circle, and a letter C backwards.
I'm gonna make joey looking up at mama.
Two little dots for that.
Now for the nose, out, add that little circle and back in.
Add a dash for the corner of the mouth.
And then down for the neck.
A couple of hairs on top of the head down, add the ear, cheek, right into the pouch.
You can add a couple of eyebrows too, if you like.
Now we're going to add in some background.
The background is a part of the setting.
It is everything that's behind the character.
Now there could be a forest behind the character, or some plains.
It could be just about anything.
We're going to keep it very simple.
Just add some sky.
A few clouds is all we need.
We get little bit of ground surface, just some grass for the kangaroo to stand on.
And then we put in our clouds.
(jaunty music) You can place them anywhere in the sky, whatever looks nice to you.
Some nice fluffy clouds, just like that.
There is your kangaroo and joey, too.
Be sure to sign your name and take pride in your work.
We've had a lot of fun but now it's time to draw to a close.
See you next time.
