(upbeat music) - My daughter is 10, and she's an Independent reader.
But I still read to her sometimes.
So, this book is about a little girl and she's biracial just like you.
There are lots of benefits to this, she learns by listening, and this expands her vocabulary.
I respond automatically.

- Yes.
- Reading to her can also break the ice on difficult topics.
We can talk about things she may go through as a preteen.
(upbeat music) But most importantly it's our bonding time.

Its a chance to slow down, put away the phone and enjoy each others company.
I always volunteer to be a student guide on open house night.
It's fun to walk down the halls in the evening, everything seems to echo differently.
