When's the last time you had milk?
- I also had milk for breakfast.
So mine was with my cereal.

Was it cow's milk or something different?
- It was almonds milk.

It's got, was it like sweet or just straight almond milk, no added sweetness or anything?
- It's kind of sweet.
- Yeah.
So it got its own sweetness.
- Yeah.

- I did.
Last time I had milk was last night in a milkshake.
- (gasps) Milkshake.
- That's good.
It's milk and ice cream.
It's a good combo.
- Did they shake up the milk to make it a milkshake or is it...?
- No.
You make milkshake mixer.
So actually what's the secret, I'll tell you, the secret to make it a good milkshake, - Yeah.
- More ice cream than milk.
Get it nice and thick.

You know, there's standard cow's milk, but then there's like half percent, low fat, skim.
Then there's lactose free kind of ideas, and almonds, rice, coconut, different goat's milk.

(Story laughs) When I think about milk, I think about the drink.
You know, the white stuff that comes from cows, but I learned there are other things made from milk, too.
Like cheese, butter, yogurt, and ice cream.
(Story laughing) In fact, dairy products are foods made from milk.
Milk has a lot of calcium, which makes us healthy and strong.
That's just one of the reasons we need two or three servings of dairy every day.
Time for a milk break.
(Story laughs) (upbeat music) - Man, we gotta revise the intro to have it be messaged from Story.

After I finished my cereal this morning, I put on my roller skates and headed to the beach.

(clears throat) After a good breakfast, I put on my roller skates and headed to the beach.
As I was rolling, I fell over on top of a slice of pizza.

How do I solve this problem, friends?

Have you ever had a butterfly help you out in something like that?
- I have actually.
At our library, we just had butterflies hatch.
(Wimee gasps) Yeah, it was awesome!
- Did they help the people that fall over from pizza incidents?
- I think they would, if they saw that.

We had some friends.
We asked some friends of the show, friends of ours, more about how they like milk.
Let's find out first from Poloma.
What kind of milk she likes and what she does with it.
- I like to use sweet vanilla almond milk in my smoothies.
(milk splashing) Yummy, yummy, yum.
- (chuckles) Hey, Brody.
Have you ever made a smoothie before?
- Yeah.
- (gasps) What do you put in smoothies?
- Usually banana.
- Ooh.
- And chocolate.
- (gasps) Oh, man.
You really got the chocolate thing down.

(Wimee chuckles) Hey, stay with me.
Let's find out what Alexa likes to do with milk.
- I use lactose free milk on my cereal.
(milk splashing) - Lactose free!
This guy, no... Hmm.
Let's bring Jim in, too.
Hey, Jim.
I've heard of lactose free, but that's part of something in dairy that... Do you know?
I'm putting you on the spot.
- It is.
Yeah.
Well, no, that's the thing.
Some people, their bodies have a hard time.
It's almost like they're allergic, right, to lactose.
So then you would have to have lactose free dairy so that your body wouldn't have an adverse reaction to it saying "What are you giving me?"
- Gotcha.
- So... - Hey, what about like rice milk and soy milk, right?
Those two are... - Those two would be an alternative for people who, right, are perhaps lactose and tolerant and can't have dairy for whatever reason.
Right, that those would be alternatives.
- Yeah.
Or maybe they prefer the taste.
- Some people do prefer the taste.
- Yeah.
And then it's not, for some, okay.
What.
I'm getting, I'm going too far.
Let's go see what Blake, what kind of milk Blake likes.
- Right.
- I dip my chips in chocolate milk, and it comes from a cow.
(chips crunching) (Wimee laughing) - Chips in to chocolate milk.
Brody, have you ever dipped chips into chocolate milk?
- No.
- I think you probably can't go wrong dump, dumping.
(Wimee laughing) Dunking anything into chocolate milk, though.
Hmm.
Yeah.
Hey, Story.

Did we miss any?
Anyone, can anyone think of any other types of milk that we missed?
I'm sure there's more.
- We didn't say almond milk.
(Wimee gasps) I like almond milk.
- Oh, almond.
- All right.
So we did.
Well, but I think we covered.
We had skim milk earlier.
Right?
- Yeah.
- We had 1%, 2%, vitamin D. Those would be like your regular dairy milks, right?
- Skim milk.
- Well, chocolate milk.
- But then add chocolate and strawberry or flavors to any.
- Ooh, yeah.
Or banana, too.
- Yeah.
- Banana flavored milk is good, too.
- That's a thing?
- Mm-hmm.
Oh, yeah.
And then, what else?
Then...
Right, you can make smoothies and milkshakes with your milk, or you can have your rice milk, your almond milk, coconut milk.
I think those are really the big ones that we get.
We had the lactose free milk, which those others would be lactose free, too.
I think we might.
I think that might have covered it all.
- What, what about not goat's milk?
(Story gasps) - Goat's milk, right.
- Yeah.
- Right.
I do know fun facts, 'cause I just read it recently.
85, about 85% of the world's milk comes from cows.
- Wow!
- That's right.
There are some places in the world were like they would have goat's milk or some other kind of milk from some other animal.
But cows are the go-to, right?
Cowzilla knows it.
Right, Cowzilla?
(Cowzilla mooing) Right.
Yeah, milk.
- Whoa!
Oh, Cow... We should ask Cowzilla more.
- Cow's milk.
- Yeah.
- Yeah, Cowzilla knows a lot, right?
- Yeah.

You know, I was thinking too, also as humans, right?
And mamas and babies and then cats and like animals, right?
There's just a natural way too to feed.
- Absolutely.
- Oh, man!
- And especially for... (Cowzilla mooing) Right?
And especially for youngsters.
- Whoa.

I think they say, especially like your first five, your first five years of life, you need some lots and lots of milk.
It's good.
Lots of good nutrients in there.
The calcium gives you strong bones and strong teeth.
The protein helps your muscles.
All kinds of good stuff in milk.
(Wimee grunts) - Okay.
Oof.
Well, this has been cool talking about it.

This one is called "Milk and Juice, A Recycling Romance".
And it's by Meredith Crandall Brown.
She is the author, and it is published by HarperCollins, books for children.
And this is such a fun book!
So in my refrigerator, milk and juice do live side by side.
And in this book, they live side by side, too, for just a short period of time.
And then, they're separated.
Oh, no!
And we get to follow Juice, over here, on his trip all around the world in different orientations, like, "Pop!
He's a pen!"
"And pop!"
He's some kind of other container!"
And then, in the end, we get to find out if Milk and Juice are finally reunited or not and how they're reunited and whether they get to stay together forever or not.
But it's such a fun book and such a neat way to learn about recycling and how important milk and juice are for our growth and development.
But it is fun, and I hope you pick it up and enjoy it.
