- Hi there.
I'm Ashley.
We're multiplying by four today, in the math park.
(school bell rings) (children cheering) (upbeat music) - [Narrator] Get ready for a very special, super duper math class.
We're going on a field trip where learning math is tons of fun.
Our destination is, the Math Park.
With our friends, Ranger Rith, Ashley, Charles, Mike, Janet, Kippin and Math Dylan.
(crowd cheering) - Hello, chipmunks.
Welcome to Math Park.
I'm park ranger, A.Rithmetic, but you can call me Ranger Rith.
Math Park is a place where swing set, sand box and math is always fun.
We're gonna have a grand time.
Today We're gonna learn multiplying, by four.
- Multiplying by four.
We already know quite a bit about it.
We've already learned that.
- [Narrator] Four times One is four, One times four is four.
Four times two is eight, Two times four is eight.
Four times three is 12, three times four is 12.
Four times five is 20, five Times four is 20, and four times 10 is 40 and 10 times four is 40.
Now it's your turn, but we've mixed them up this time.
(piano music) Five times four equals?
(Clock Ticking) 20.
Two times four equals?
(Clock Ticking) Eight.
One times four equals?
(Clock Ticking) Four.
Three times four equals?
(Clock Ticking) 12.
10 times four equals?
(Clock Ticking) 40.
- And now here's the new stuff.
(marching band music) - Four times four is 16, six times four is 24, seven times four is 28, eight times four is 32, and nine times four is 36.
Multiplying by four, do it, and you'll soar.
(ocean sounds) Can you say the product to the next multiplication fact you see before the lifeguard does?
(clock ticking) - [lifeguard] 16.
(children cheering) (upbeat music) - [male] Well look at that, aren't they beautiful?
How many flower pots do you see?
Six is right, and how many flowers are in each pot?
four is on the money, Now, what multiplication fact can we write for this picture?
If you said six times four, you are one smart person.
There are six groups of four so that's why it works.
Do you know how many flowers there are all together?
That's right, 24. six times four is 24.
(gong crashing),(harp strumming) - [Loud Booming Voice] The Array of the Day.
- Check out the stars There are two rows with four stars in each row.
Let's count them.
One, two.
And we can think of the rows as being like groups, two groups of four.
So we would write it as a multiplication fact this way, two times four.
And how many stars are there altogether?
Eight, two times four is eight.
Now, what would happen if we turn the stars this way, we now have four rows of two, let's count them.
One, two, three, four.
And if we think of the rows as being like groups, we have four groups of two.
How would we write that as a multiplication fact?
Four times two is correct.
And how many stars is that altogether?
Eight, that was great.
- Can you say the product of this multiplication problem before Betty Crock-Pot does?
(clock ticking) - 12.
(Gong crashing) (Spluttering) - Did you know that knowing how to multiply by two can help you in multiplying by four?
- [Narrator] Here's a multiplication trick, knowing how to multiply, by two, can help you multiply by four.
Suppose you don't know the answer to three times four, here's something you can do.
Multiply by two, just simply say three times two equals six, and then double the product.
Six plus six is 12, three times four is 12.
- I never thought of it that way.
If I say six times two equals 12, and then I doubled the 12, That equals 24.
So six times four equals 24, that is so cool.
[Western Music] - Howdy Sidewinders I'm Math Dylan, and we're gonna have a little contest today to see who can multiply faster.
The way this works is, you're gonna grab a pen and a paper, and when that multiplication fact appears on the screen, we're gonna see who can write the product faster, but wait till it appears and then, I'll say draw.
Get ready, get set, draw.
[Western Music] Here's the answer.
If you got 28, you're correct.
You're faster than a three legged road runner, but I'm gonna get ya next time.
(evil laugh) - [Narrator] Suppose someone asked you, what is six times four and you don't know the answer.
(mysterious music) Here's a trick to help you out.
Think what is five times four?
20, and six times four means you're just adding another group of four, five times four is 20, 20 plus four more is 24.
So six times four equals 24.
Try this trick with other multiplication facts.
- Now let's head over to the Multiplication Station where Max the multiplier is multiplying by four.
(space music) - [Narrator] From the fun factor satellite in outer space, and the Proud Product Studios in Hollywood.
You are watching, the Multiplication Station.
- Hey, this is your Multiplication Station VJ, Max the multiplier.
Today, we're multiplying by four.
Check out these fun videos and then we'll get back.
(upbeat music) (paper crumpling) (upbeat music) (paper crumpling) (balls clanging) (upbeat music) (vacuum sucking) (transmission sounds) (upbeat music) (paint spraying) (upbeat music) (fan blowing) (car engine roaring) - You think you got it?
Are you ready for the Multiplication Station quickie quiz?
Let's find out.
- [Narrator] The Multiplication Station presents, the Quickie Quiz.
(children cheering) - [Childish Voice] Wonderful.
- [Narrator] See if you can say the products before Charles does.
10 times four is?
- 40.
- [Narrator] Six times four is?
- 24.
- [Narrator] Five times four is?
- 20.
- [Narrator] Eight times four is?
- 32.
- [Narrator] One times four is?
- Four.
- [Narrator] Four times four is?
- 16.
- [Narrator] Seven times four is?
- 28.
- [Narrator] Three times four is?
- 12.
- [Narrator] Nine times four is?
- 36.
- [Narrator] And two times four is?
- Eight.
- How'd you do?
Do you know, if you miss some, you can go back and practice with the video again.
With a little practice, you'll become a multiplication sensation.
(upbeat music) - [Narrator] And now it's time for the Multiplication Wipe out.
If you've learned the multiplying by four facts, you get to wipe them out.
Let's do it.
(lasers shooting) Here are the sixes.
Let's wipe out four times six.
(laser shoots) Here are the sevens, wipe out four times seven.
(laser shoots) Here are the eights, wipe out four times eight, (laser shoots) and here are the nines wipe out four times nine.
(laser shoots) Next time we'll be multiplying by six.
It'll be great to wipe those out.
(trumpet music) (child crying) - Did you hear that?
That means Math Park is closing for today, until Math Park reopens, I salute you math chipmunks.
