Speaker 2: Oh, hi Miss Penny.
Speaker 1: Hi Rebecca, it's so nice to be here.
Thank you for inviting me to your music therapy class.
Speaker 2: Of course.
I'm glad you're here.
Music therapy is when we use music, and music games, and playing, and singing, to help people reach their goals like speaking and following directions and learning new words.
Speaker 1: Ah, learning new words is one of my favorite things.
Speaker 2: Mine too.
Speaker 1: It's going to be great, I'm very excited.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Music therapy's led by a board certified music therapist who's gone through training and knows about how to work with all different types of people.
Today we're working with kids.
Kids can gain confidence, learn about their feelings, learn communication and speaking skills, and so much more.
Speaker 1: How is music therapy different from other types of therapies?
Speaker 2: Music therapy is a very special kind of therapy because it doesn't seem like therapy, it's just having fun.
We get to play with instruments and sing songs, and we're secretly working towards learning new things.
Speaker 1: That is wonderful.
I love music.
Speaker 2: Me too.
I'll be playing the guitar and we'll be singing together.
I also have a drum called the happy drum, it's called the happy drum because it makes you happy when you play it.
Try it.
Speaker 1: Oh, is that beautiful.
Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
Now close your eyes and tell me if you can guess what this sounds like.
Speaker 1: It sounds like waves.
Speaker 2: Yes, exactly.
This is called an ocean drum because it sounds just like the ocean.
Speaker 1: It does.
Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
I've also brought scarves.
Speaker 1: We love scarves.
Speaker 2: Now we can play with and wave in the air and throw in the sky.
Speaker 1: I think it's time for our music therapy sessions.
Speaker 2: Hi everyone.
My name is Miss Rebecca, and we're going to make some music together today.
Speaker 1: Yay.
Speaker 2: It's so good to see you all.
So we always start music by saying, what do we say?
Speaker 1: Hi.
Speaker 2: Hello.
All right, let's sing hello.
Hello my friends, it's time for music today.
Hello, my friends, it's time for music today, it's time to say hello.
We're going to wave hello, show me how you wave hello.
