These blossoms actually need help before they can turn into apples.

They need other apple trees nearby for pollination.

Wow, these blossoms sure smell beautiful!

It's pollen, the stuff used to pollinate apple blossoms.

Being covered in pollen is a good thing!

It's key to making apples!

The pollen from both trees mix.

That's what the blossoms need to turn into apples!

Whoa, I have a big part in this!

So, are we ready to eat these apples now or what, guys?

After the blossoms are pollinated, the blossoms fall to the ground.

And seeds start to form.

Then, finally, the apples grow around the seeds.

Johnny Appleseed planted a different kind of apple tree.

Those apples were really sour.

My bad.

These apples are only good for making cider or feeding to livestock.

Many years after Johnny Appleseed planted his orchards, people began growing different kinds of apple trees!

They found ways to make apples taste even sweeter!

Just to name a few: Cortland apples in New York, Ginger Gold apples in Virginia, Honeycrisp apples in Minnesota, Red Delicious apples in Washington.
