Nature Cat tells his version of his Johnny Appleseed!
It’s Fall! Apple picking season! But Hal wants to know – how did the apples get up in the trees? An apple fairy? A magic spell? The internet? And how long does it take? Long time? Short time? No time? So many questions! That reminds Nature Cat of his all-time favorite nature story, which will help answer all of Hal’s apple questions. It’s time to tell Nature Cat’s version of Johnny Appleseed!

Hal, pal, you got to finish chewing before you talk, man!
Sorry!
Look, I was just asking, like, how apples got up in those trees in the first place?
I mean, does someone make them?
Like an apple fairy?
Or a magic spell?
Oh, is it the internet?
How long does it take?
I mean, like, a long time?
Or a short time?
Or no time?
Oh, so many questions!
I'm thinking the trees make the apples, Hal.
And it probably takes some time.
The apples don't just appear overnight.
They have to grow.
The tree?
No way!
But how?
Ooh, this actually reminds me of one of my all-time favorite nature stories.
It's a nature story that will actually help answer all of Hal's apple questions!
Yes!
What's the story?
I love stories!
Get all comfy-cozy because it's time to tell my version of Johnny Appleseed.
This is Johnny Appleseed!
Handsome fellow, huh?
Johnny Appleseed was actually his nickname.
His real name was John Chapman, a pioneer who lived a really long time ago with his family, including his brother Nathaniel.
Hi, everyone!
It's me, Nathaniel!
Wink, wink.
And his sister Elizabeth.
Oh, hello!
Hey, where am I, Nature Cat?
Don't worry.
Your part comes in later, Squeeks.
Oh, cool.
I'm down with that.
Well, the time has come for me to bid you adieu.
For you see, I must venture forth on an amazing apple adventure!
Where are you going, dear?
Go westward, young cat!
Yes, father!
Westward it is!
I shall go forth to plant apple orchards by seed!
Now, what am I going to need?
Hey, Johnny, do you want to take this?
You might need it to cook on the campfire.
Uhh, well I don't really have any more room.
But you're probably right.
Hm.
A-ha, look here, stylish and functional.
Hey, I'm coming with you.
You're really going to need my green thumb!
Ooh, me too!
Pick me!
Pick me!
Pick me!
Can you help me grow apple trees?
You know it!
Can you talk about apples all day, every day, for as long as we are gone?
Umm, probably?
Good enough for me!
Tally-ho!
So ready!
I'm ready too-too also!
Toodle-oo!
Have fun!
The time has come for us to head west!
(Clearing throat) West is the other way.
Ah, right, yes.
I'm so glad you're here!
Onward and Westward!
