Setting small goals for your children, like reading one paragraph at a time, can be an exciting challenge to keep reading interesting. Have your child read a paragraph, circle any words they have trouble with, and count out how many words they got correct.

- I try to keep my son excited about reading, so we set goals and fun challenge.
(playful music) We have a one-page story that he reads every day.
- [Son] Tree or grazing, - [Mother] He tries to read the whole thing by himself, and he'll circle any words he can't figure out.
How many words did you get correct?
- One, two, three, - When he's done, he'll write down how many words he got right, and how many words he got wrong.
- 67, 68, 69, - [Mother] We'll do this every day until he gets all the words right.
This keeps him excited about reading, and it's fun for him to reach his goal.
- [Son] Cattle go the wrong way, - [Mother] Once he's mastered the story, he gets a reward, but the real prize is watching him grow as a reader.
