FISH: Are we here, Cat?

Yes!
Welcome to the Magnetic Fields, home of the This-A-Way-That-A-Way Stream.
All I spy with my fishy eye are red and blue rocks.
Where's the This-A-Way-That-A-Way Stream?
Hmm.
It could be this-a-way, or it could be that-a-way.

In the Magnetic Fields, all the rocks are magnets.

Are you sure, Cat?
My train car pushed away from this rock.
Just like it was pushed away from the engine.
But magnets are supposed to pull together, right?
Maybe it's some kind of magnetic mystery.
Hmm.
Or maybe sometimes magnets pull, and sometimes they push away.
I'm not sure I'm following you, Nick.
The question is, how do we know when they're going to pull, or push?
(Fish shouting) Gotcha!

To explore the This-A-Way-That-A-Way Stream.
But how is a canoe ride gonna tell me why my train isn't working?
Huh.
This canoe is red and blue, just like all the rocks around here.
I wonder if that means... (Clanking) Yup, it's a magnet!
Then, maybe this canoe trip will tell us what we need to know.
What a beautiful stream!
I don't know whether to look this-a-way or that-a-way.
I'd say look that way, because we're heading right towards that rock!
We need to go the other way!
Fish is right.
We're paddling towards the rock.
We need to paddle away from it.
We are paddling away from it.
(Sally grunting) FISH: The canoe is being pulled to the rock, anyway!

The rock is a magnet.
It's pulling us because the canoe's a magnet, too!
We've got to turn this canoe away from that rock!
(All grunting, groaning) NICK Hey, we got pushed away from the rock!
But why would one end of the canoe push away from a rock, and one end pull toward it?
What's different?
Maybe the question is what's the same?
(Gasping) The color!
When we spun the blue end of the canoe toward the blue side of the rock, it pushed us away.
Blue pushes blue away!
Speaking of "way", we're now facing the wrong way.
Huh?
Why, this won't work.
Okay, everyone, about face!
And now, we're headed straight towards another rock!

This is a strange thing for a fish to say, but land, sweet land!
How we spun that canoe!

What is it, Nick?
My train magnets aren't red or blue.
Hmm, let's see.
This end pulls towards blue, but if I spin it like the canoe... it pushes away!
So, it's not the color that makes the difference.
It's the way the magnets are facing!
Now I know how to make my train set work!
When I try connecting my train car to my engine, I only tried it one way, like this.
So, this end of the magnet must be the same as the magnet on the engine.
But what I didn't do is...

The book doesn't fall off your head if it's the same weight on both sides.
You can sort of feel where it is by playing around with it.
But you shouldn't move your head, or the book's gonna fall off.
And then, it won't be balanced?
It's like the see-saw!
If you make the weight the same on both sides, then both sides will stay up!
And the books will stay on our heads!
So, let me get this straight.
If I make things the same on both sides... You'll be balanced!
Which means you won't fall over!
