- Hi, kindergarten Math Mights.
My name is Mrs. Gray, and I can't wait to do math with you today.
Today, we're going to do a Mystery Math Mistake, and we're gonna practice ordering numbers 1 to 10.
I hope you have fun and enjoy all the fun activities I have planned today.
The first thing we're gonna do is the Mystery Math Mistake.
Oh, no, they're all mixed up.
T-Pops is holding DC's hammer, and DC has Abracus' magic wand.
Today, the Mystery Math Mistake, Dotson came and he was shown a picture of some birds.
Now we're gonna take a look at what Dotson did and you're gonna see if you agree or disagree about how he figured out the problem.
Take a look.
This is what Dotson did.
We have our birds and our 10-frame and the digit to match.
Do you agree?
Did Dotson do it right?
Or maybe did he make a Mystery Math Mistake?
Let's hear from our friends.
Our friend Jameson is here.
Jameson said that when he saw the birds, he counted them and he found that there were six birds.
Let's take a closer look at what Jameson saw.
Jameson was given this picture here, just like Dotson, and he counted and said there were six.
Let's touch and count.
Can you count with me?
One, two, three, four, five, six.
Do you agree with Jameson?
Me too.
There were six birds.
Let's hear from our other friend here today.
This is Josiah.
Josiah sad that he thinks that Dotson needs to add one more counter to his 10-frame to show the number six.
Hmm, let's take a closer look at what Josiah was saying.
Josiah said that in the 10-frame, Dotson needed to add one more counter.
Hmm.
Let's look.
If this is a 10-frame and Dotson put one dot in the top of every box, we know that there are five boxes.
And if there is only five, but when we counted the birds, there were six.
Do those match?
Uh-oh, I think we found our first mistake.
Josiah was right.
We need to add more red dots to our 10-frame to show the number six.
Let's do it.
So Dotson already had the five in the top of the 10-frame.
If we can add one more, five and one more would be six.
That would match our birds, six and six.
Let's take a look at the digit at the end.
Here we have the number five.
Uh-oh.
Do you see it?
I think we have our second Mystery Math Mistake.
That's only the number five, like it was in the 10-frame.
I think we need to change that to make it a six.
So let's just cross it out, and let's write the number six.
So now we have six birds, six in a 10-frame, and the number six.
Great job, Jameson and Josiah.
You were able to find the two Mystery Math Mistakes.
Now everything on our poster shows the number six.
Let's take a look at the I Can Statement for today.
I can order numbers from 1 to 10.
Take a look at this tower.
This is the number seven.
I know it's seven because the tower shows seven cubes.
Next to it there is a number card to show the number seven.
Hey, that gives me an idea.
Do you think that we could make our own number towers?
I think it would be fun to try.
Are you ready?
Let's go.
The first number I have is seven.
That's just like the one we saw.
Do you think we could build our own tower of seven?
As I build, I'm gonna stack them one on top of a number, I need you to help me count as I go until we get to the number seven.
Here are my yellow cubes.
Let's build seven.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
This tower shows seven cubes.
The next tower we build is going to be three.
Let's count and see if we can build a tower of three cubes.
Now I'm going to use the green cubes.
Remember, the colors just help me make different towers, but it doesn't matter what color I use.
So one, two, three.
Three.
Let's flip the next card.
That's an eight.
We're gonna use the red cubes to show eight.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
That's the number eight.
Wow, Math Mights, you are getting so great at building number towers.
Do you think we could build a tower for all of the numbers from 1 to 10?
Let's see what our next card has.
The next card has the number four.
Let's get out four cubes.
One, two, three, four.
Let's keep going.
Now we have the number nine.
Let's build nine.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine.
Great job, Math Mights.
Let's keep going.
We're gonna flip the next card.
It's the number six.
We're gonna build the number six.
One, two, three, four, five, six.
Let's see what the next number is.
The next number is one.
That's an easy one.
One.
There's our tower of one.
Let's go to the next number.
The next number is going to be two.
Let's build two.
One, two.
The next number is five.
We're gonna build five.
One, two, three, four, five.
Great job, Math Mights, we only have one more tower to build.
I wonder what number it will be.
It's the number 10.
Let's build 10.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
Wow, Math Mights, we were able to build all of the towers.
We have all of the towers 1 to 10.
Now let's take the number cubes and the towers and put them in order.
So if I was counting, hmm, I would start with the number one.
So I'm gonna take my one tower and I'm gonna move it.
Let's slide these down a little.
And I'm gonna make some room to start here with my number one tower.
One.
What number comes after one?
That's right, when we count, it's two.
Let's find the number two tower.
There it is, number two.
Let's take the number two tower and put it next in line.
What comes after two?
Do you know, Math Mights?
What's after two?
That's right, it's the number three.
Let's find the number three.
Three, three, there it is, three.
Take the number three tower.
What's next?
Yes, four.
We need the four tower.
Let's see, where's the four?
There's four.
Take the four tower.
We're gonna move it down.
Now we have one, two, three, four.
What comes after four?
Yes, it's five.
Find the number five.
There it is, five.
One, two, three, four, five.
Six, do you see it?
Do you see?
There's the six.
Six is next.
What comes after six?
How about seven?
Seven is already in line.
Seven.
Then it's eight.
Look, eight is ready to go.
What comes after eight?
How about nine?
There it is.
Nine is already ready.
And what's the last number?
It's 10.
Great job, Math Mights.
Move the number 10.
Now we have all of our towers in order.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
Amazing job, Math Mights.
We were able to build our towers and then put them in order from 1 to 10.
Take a look at the next activity.
This activity is ordering a number puzzle.
Now, here I have a picture, and my picture is all cut up.
I think I'm gonna try to put the picture together.
Let's see how I do.
I'm gonna take each piece and I'm just going to lay them next to each other, and we're gonna see.
Uh-oh, do you see what's happening?
I think we have a problem.
Our picture doesn't even look like a picture.
It's all mixed up.
But did you notice what was at the bottom of each piece?
Each piece had a number.
That's like a secret clue.
It's gonna tell us where in the puzzle it belongs.
So looking at the number, we're gonna put the number puzzle in order from 1 to 10, just like we did the towers.
Do you think you can help me?
Let's do it.
So looking down here, I think we're gonna start with the number one.
So we're gonna move the number one piece over.
Now, what comes after one?
There it is, it's two.
We're gonna put the two right next to the one.
One, two.
What comes next?
How about three?
One, two, three.
Hey, Math Mights, do you see the picture starting to come alive?
I wonder what it will be.
Let's keep going.
Next is four.
There's four.
Put it together.
What comes after four?
That's right, it's five.
Let's look.
There's five.
Five.
Then a six.
What's next?
How about seven?
What comes after seven, Math Mights?
Yes, it's eight.
Let's find it.
We're looking for eight.
Here it is.
After eight, we have nine.
And what's our last piece, Math Mights?
Yes, it's 10.
10.
Wow, Math Mights, we put our numbers in order 1 to 10, and look, our monkey picture came alive.
Wonderful job, Math Mights.
Now it's your turn.
You are going to get to do an ordering number puzzle, just like the monkey, but this time you're gonna have a different secret picture.
Great job, Math Mights.
We were able to do the Mystery Math Mistake and practice ordering our numbers.
I hope you had a great time and I can't wait for you to come back soon.
