(playful music) (spring pops) (bubbles pop) - I mostly am scared of the dark.
- Yeah.
- [Interviewer] What's something you do so that you can start to feel better?
- I try not to remember that the black is there, I try to pretend it's day and I read books until I fall asleep.
- [Amanda] I like that stories help you to feel better until you can feel safe again and not scared.
- Yeah.
- Sometimes I'm scared of doing new things.
- Yeah, sometimes it can be kinda scary to try new things, right?
- Mm, yeah.
- So, say you were gonna try out for a new team.
What would make you feel a little less scared if you were trying out for a new team?
- [Jayce] Maybe if my team cheers with me and- - Oh.
- Help me.
- [Kristina] If you have some cheering going on?
- Yep.
- I think that when you're scared it is good to have somebody who you trust and care about, giving you nice, helpful, encouraging words.
- When I'm feeling scared, I know that you're there to help me whenever I fall down and I get back, right back up, because you're there to help me and it makes me feel safe.
- Oh, it makes you feel safe.
I'm glad I can make you feel safe.

- Mm-hmm.
- Being alone, even, you know, in the basement while I'm upstairs or something.
I know sometimes that scares you.
- Mm-hmm.
- Why don't you tell me about that?
- The reason why I'm afraid of being alone is because what if a robber breaks in?
- Okay, have you ever been in a place where a robber broke in?
- No, I'm just afraid that might happen to us.
- Okay, so even though that's never happened, I know that those thoughts are pretty scary, right?
Like, what's something that you could do to keep that fear from affecting you?
- I could do one of those deep breath exercises.
Just breathe in.
(inhales) Hold it in for three seconds.
And then breathe the fear out.
(exhales) I could also go upstairs.
Then I maybe, if one of you were down here, I wouldn't be alone.
- Anytime you're scared, you can always come to the people that care about you.
It doesn't have to be me.
It doesn't have to be mama.
It can be whoever is in your support system.
- [Michela] Yeah.
- Because sometimes all it takes is someone else being there with you.
- What you do makes me feel loved and noticed.
- Noticed, hmm.
Well, you are noticed and you are loved.
- [Interviewer] We had some great conversations today.
Let's finish this with a deep breath.
(deep inhale) - [Interviewer] Hold it for three seconds.
3, 2, 1.
(deep exhale) (deep exhale) - [Interviewer] Feel good?
- Yeah.
(stomach grumbles) - I hear my tummy grumbling.
I think I need a snack.
(laughter) (calm piano music)
