♪ (playful horn honks) - I had such a fun time on my vacation and I took a bunch of photos on my phone.

Here's my mom, dad, brother and sister at the airport in Mexico City.

We flew on a plane to go visit my grandma and grandpa, mi abuelita y mi abuelito.

They live there.

It was my grandma's birthday.

And here's my grandma's birthday party with all of my aunts and uncles and cousins.

This is Abuela's birthday cake with 70 candles on it!

The next day, we went on a colorful boat and floated down a canal.

Fue divertido.

It was super fun!

(dull school bell ringing) Oh, that's Barry the Bell.

But, he sounds a little different than usual.

(playful horn honking) (dull school bell ringing) (Barry sneezing) - Excuse me.

Perdonóme.

I'm not feeling so hot.

Actually, I'm feeling rather warm.

So, I'm going to the nurse's office.

Don't worry.

You'll still be able to get to all your classes on time because Barbara the Substitute Bell is gonna take my place for the day.

She's a cool bell, and I know you'll listen to her.

In the meantime, head to Miss Sommer's classroom because she's got a Story Time surprise for you.

(Barry sneezing) Excuse me.

I'm Miss Sommer.

I was just playing parade with the word noun!

Do you know what a noun is?

You may have already heard me say what it is.

It's a person, place or a thing.

Yeah!

Let me give you an example: Me, Miss Sommer.

I am a person so I am a noun!

Or, this desk.

It's a thing so it's also a noun.

Nouns are everywhere.

Even my classroom is a noun because it's a place!

So nouns are: a person, Miss Sommer; place, our classroom; or thing, the desk.

Nouns are everywhere, even in poems.

And, boy, do we have a lot of nouns in our poem today!

Even a poem is a noun.

The poem is called "The View from My Window."

And just like poor Barry the Bell, the little boy in this poem is not feeling well.

Let's get started.

(reads) "I have a sore throat, so I'm staying in bed.

"I'm sneezing and wheezing.

"There's an ache in my head.

(boy sneezing) "I wish I was better, "and could play with my friends.

"But I must stay at home, until this flu ends.

"Out the window, I see people, places and things.

"There's a boy on his bike (bike bell rings) and a lady who sings.

"Two men sit on a bench, playing a game of chess.

(splash!)

"One spills his coffee.

Oh, what a mess!

"A church rings its chimes near a park with tall trees.

"A dog chases a ball.

(dog barking) "A kite soars in the breeze.

"A family has a party by a beautiful lake.

"They sing 'Happy Birthday' and serve up some cake.

"Squirrels search for food.

"Birds fly in the sky.

"Cars drive on the street.

"Fire trucks whiz by.

(siren wailing) "The view from my window is better than TV.

There are so many people, places, and things to see!"

Do you remember some of the nouns?

See if you can count all the nouns I recall from the story!

Let's see.

There was a window that a boy looked out.

And a bike, and a church, and a dog chasing a ball.

There were squirrels, and birds, and cars and fire trucks that whizzed by.

There was also a family, and a lake, and a birthday cake!

Whoa!

There were so many nouns, I ran out of fingers!

(gasps) And even fingers are nouns!

(school bell ringing) What was that?

That must be Barbara the Substitute Bell.

I sure hope Barry feels better soon, but I'm kind of excited to see where Barbara will send us next!

(playful horn honking) - Is this thing on?

It's geography with Miss Sommer.

You see that doorway with the map on it?

That's where you go!

(school bell ringing) (playful horn honking) Today, we're going to explore the wondrous land of Noun Town!

- [Deep voice] Noun Town!

- You know, just like Eddie, I also went on a vacation this summer.

I went to a super exciting place called Noun Town.

- [Deep voice] Noun Town!

(mystical music) - I started right here at the Museum of Nouns.

There were so many places, and people, and things inside, I could barely believe my eyes!

When I walked out, I heard noises coming from the (crack!)

baseball stadium and decided to go see the game.

It was filled with people cheering for the two teams: Places versus Things!

Ooh?!

And then, my stomach started to grumble.

I needed to eat!

So, I saw a restaurant nearby and decided to check it out.

(car horn honking) Everything on the menu was a noun!

So naturally, I got one of everything!

Ooh?!

I can't believe I ate all those nouns.

Nouns are delicious.

But, wait.

That's an adjective!

Anyway, it was getting late so I decided to go to the Noun Theater and see the new movie that just came out called, "Noun Man."

At first, I couldn't tell if the main character was a person, place or thing until he revealed that he was a common noun during the day and a Super Noun at night!

[adventurous music] I don't want to give away the ending, but let's just say this world wouldn't be the same without nouns!

To end my trip, I took the bus to the park called Nouns Around.

I saw swings, a slide, and even families playing together with their dogs.

(dogs barking) On my way out of Noun Town, I saw a sign.

It said Verb Town.

It's just a hop, skip, and a jump away!

But, that adventure?

Well, that's for another day!

(playful horn honking) - Hello, hello?

Okay, are you ready to have some fun?

I can't hear you!

(kids screaming) Well, if you're ready to have some fun, then join Eddie and me in the gym for a noun-tastic activity!

(school bell ringing) (playful horn honking) - Thanks, Barbara the Substitute Bell.

We're gonna play a game.

It's called People, Places, and Things.

Here's how we play.

Barbara is going to tell us what she sees and every time she says a noun, we jump up and down.

Barbara, estás lista?

Are you ready?

- [Barbara] Eddie, I was born ready.

Now, remember: nouns are people, places, and things.

So every time I mention a kind of person, or a place, or an object, you jump!

This is going to be fun.

Here we go.

¡Empecemos!

(school bell ringing) I have a fabulous view from up here.

I'm talking spec-tac-u-lar!

D'ya get me?

Okay, here's what I see.

Now, don't forget to jump when you hear a noun.

I see a girl in the library reading a book.

I see a group of students kicking a ball on the field.

I see a teacher eating a sandwich in the cafeteria.

I see a boy working on a computer in the lab.

Oh!

In the office, I see the principal shaking hands with a parent.

I see a school bus pulling into the parking lot.

I see a bee.

Yep, that's a bee.

The bee is flying this way!

[buzzing sounds] The bee landed on me!

(stammers) The bee is on me.

(shaky voice) The bee is on me!

Get this bee offa me!

Somebody help [buzzing sounds] get this bee offa me!

Ouch!

The bee stung my face.

Help!

I've been stung by a bee!

I need to go to the nurse's office!

(wailing school bell) - Oh, no!

I hope you feel better, Barbara.

Ugh?!

That was a lot of jumping!

While I get a drink of water, why don't you go see what Miss Sommer's up to?

(playful horn honking) - What a noun-tastic day!

Let's see if we remember some of the nouns from our poem!

I'll start with the people.

Let's see.

There was a boy, a lady, men, and a family.

Now, let's think of the places.

I remember the home, church, and a lake!

Now, let's think of the things in the story, and, boy, was there a lot!

There was a bed, a bike, chess game, party, a cake, cars, squirrels, and fire trucks.

Wow!

That's 15 nouns just right there!

Then, we got to see the map of Noun Town and we discovered so many places to go, like Museum of Nouns, the Places versus Things playing in the baseball stadium, the bus, and even the movie theater!

So many nouns!

And then, remember when Eddie had to jump every time Barbara the Substitute Bell mentioned a noun that she saw?

Nouns are everywhere!

They're the people you meet, the foods you eat, and the things you see.

They're also the pets you love, the places you visit, and the toys you play with!

(playful horn honking) - Hello!

Hello?

Can you hear me?

You can?

Okay, you might be wondering how I'm doing after that bee incident.

I'm okay.

Thank you for asking.

But when I was in the nurse's office, guess who I bumped into?

You'll never guess who!

I'll give you a hint.

It's our friend, nuestro amigo, Barry the Bell!

He's feeling much better, and he's coming back!

(school bell ringing) (playful horn honking) - Going through my photos from my summer vacation, I realize that these are all pictures of nouns.

Whoa!

Even my phone is a noun!

The airport is a noun, so are the suitcases, and my brother and my sister, and my mom and my dad.

Abuela and Abuelo, all my aunts, and uncles and cousins are nouns.

Mi familia!

Because they're people, toda mi familia, my whole family are all nouns!

Even that birthday cake is a noun.

Whoa!

I didn't know nouns could be so delicious!

(playful horn honking) - Now, let's go in Español!

O este escritorio, es una cosa por lo que también es un sustantivo.

Los sustantivos están a nuestro alrededor.

¡Incluso mi salón, es un sustantivo porque es un lugar!

Sustantivos: persona, lugar, o cosa.

Sabes, los sustantivos están en todas partes!

¡Especialmente en las historias!

Y vaya, tenemos muchos sustantivos en nuestra historia de hoy.

El cuento se llama "La Vista desde mi Ventana."

Al igual que Barry, La Campana, el niño de nuestro cuento tampoco se siente muy bien.

Cuando salí, escuché ruidos provenientes del estadio de béisbol y decidí ir a ver el juego.

Estaba lleno de gente animando a los dos equipos: ¡Lugares contra Cosas!

(baseball bat cracks) Después mi estómago comenzó a gruñir y necesitaba comer.

¡Vi un restaurante y decidí entrar, y todo el menú era sustantivo!

Así, que compré una de cada cosa.

No puedo creer que me comí todos esos sustantivos.

Los sustantivos son, tan deliciosos... pero espera... eso es un adjetivo.

Ni modo.

Se estaba haciendo tarde, así que decidí ir al Teatro Sustantivo y ver la nueva película que acaba de salir, llamada Hombre Sustantivo.

Al principio no sabía si el personaje principal era una persona, un lugar o una cosa, hasta que se reveló que era un sustantivo común durante el día, y un super sustantivo por la noche.

No quiero revelar el final, pero digamos que.

este mundo no sería igual sin los sustantivos.

Para terminar mi viaje tomé el autobús al parque llamado Sustantivos Alrededor.

Vi columpios, una resbaladilla, pasto verde, e incluso familias jugando con sus perros.

Al salir del Mundo Sustantivo vi un letrero que decía, Pueblo del Verbo: ¡Queda muy cerca!

Pero esa aventura es para otro día.

(playful horn honking) (microphone static) - [Barbara] Hola, ¿hola?

(microphone static) Bien, ¿estás listo para divertirte un poco?

¡No puedo oírte!

(kids cheering) Bueno, si estás listo para la diversión, ¡ven conmigo y Eddie al gimnasio para una actividad fantástica!
