Pittsburgh a city from the very beginning, defined by its three rivers.
The Monongahela, the Allegheny, and the Ohio.
People here work, play, and celebrate on these waterways.
But the story of Pittsburgh from the water doesn't begin and end at the point.
It stretches far into western Pennsylvania.
From the rapids of the Youghiogheny River to the peaceful calm of Lake Arthur, to the picturesque Buttermilk Falls and all of the streams, rivers, lakes and ponds.
And between.
Our journey begins in Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands.
Everybody hop in People in Pittsburg are surprised to see us surfing with Surf Pittsburgh.
We teach them to do just that.
All right, let go.
Troy University.
85 miles from the adventure of Jacob's Creek.
A different generation enjoys the water by riding the winds.
Every spring, Pennsylvania's sportsmen fan out to stock nearly a thousand lakes and streams with more than 4 million trout.
Stocking is important because most of the streams that we stocked with trout wouldn't normally have trout.
Safely enjoying the region's waterways wouldn't be possible without Pittsburgh's river rescue.
Well, as you can see, we're trying to clear traffic for the Gateway Clipper on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
These are just a few of the many who earned their living working on the water.
Many of the barges you see on the river today are made right here in Brownsville, Pennsylvania.
Brownsville Marine Products is ready to launch our 1000 barge.
Life on the water in the winter can be just as active and just as breathtaking.
As a towboat comes down.
He's shoveling hundreds of feet of ice in front of them.
That goes into the lock chamber.
We can't fit the entire toe.
And the ice in the chamber together virtually triples the amount of time it takes.
As many as three hours to get that toe through.
We back the toe out of the chamber, close the gates so we fan the gates back and fort to move the ice out of the way.
Drain the chamber down, flush the ice out the lower end.
Then we're able to turn back to the towboat, and we're able to lock the towboat through.
The lock system is in plac to allow the boats to transverse from one side of the dam to the other side.
For the lock and dam system was put in on the Ohio River.
The average river depth from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati was right around two feet.
Winter turns the water to ice.
Boats are replaced by sleds as fishermen seek their catch in the bitter cold.
Fishing is just one of many with directivity on busy Lake Arthur.
Thank you everyone for attending.
This is an awesome day.

The shells kind of glow It looks really great at night.
