With her family being the only black farming family in Northern Minnesota, Stone-Johnson helped her father organize a farming group to regulate the prices of milk, beef or anything pertaining to farming. As she grew older she saw that persistence and hard work paid off when she successfully organized a local union for the Hotel and Restaurants.
