- Yeah.
- All right, cool.
- Heat the oven to 350 Fahrenheit.
- My daughter and I love to cook together.
Not only does it build her confidence in the kitchen but it helps build her literacy skills.
We cook using easy recipes with ingredients that are familiar to Kaliyah.
We will read the recipe together and I focus on pronouncing words slowly and clearly.
Then I have her repeat them.
So the ingredients that we need are one cup of water.
As children grow a little older and begin to recognize letters, have them spell each ingredient out loud.
A half cup of oil and three eggs.
Hey, Kaliyah, how do you spell eggs?
- E-G-G-S. - Good job Cooking together gives Kaliyah a chance to learn words like stirring and mixing and then we talk about what those words mean.
We also talk about the sequence, like what happens first, second and third while making a meal.
Well, our cupcakes are all done.
In a few minutes we can frost.
