let's play a game.
- Okay.
- My son is crazy about basketball.
So I use his love of sports as a teaching tool.
What rhymes with light?
- Fight.
- We play a rhyming game.
I say a word as I throw the ball to him.
Kite.
Then he says a word that rhymes as he throws it back to me.
- White.
- We try to keep it going as long as we can.
I got the idea from a game I played when I was a child.
Now I use it to help my son develop his reading and spelling skills.
Right.
Rhyming also helps him identify the different sounds and similarities in words.
Plus he's learning to concentrate and think on his feet.
- Whip.
- This game is our way of making sure we stay on the ball with literacy.
