I'm Courtney Cochran, back with another super science lesson for you today.
We have talked about the power of wind and sun and water here on Earth.
And today we're gonna talk about other things that are powerful.
What ways can you think of that Mother Nature shows her power?
If you're thinking of the weather, then we're on the same page.
Here in Arkansas, the weather can change from minute to minute and sometimes it can be a little bit violent, right?
And that's why it's important to always be prepared.
We have weather events like flash floods, where incredibly large amounts of rain fall all at the same time.
And when it is flooding, remember this to stay safe.
Turn around.
Don't drown.
We also have severe storms where there is thunder and lightning and hail.
And then sometimes we even have tornadoes.
Now, that might make you feel a little scared, right?
But as long as you're prepared, you can survive these weather events.
Do you and your family have a plan for emergencies?
You might have practiced fire drills before but it's important that you plan for weather events.
There are cities and towns that build things like levies to protect the area from floods and some places they even put lightning rods on top of buildings to protect the buildings from lightning strikes.
But you can also prepare.
You can create an emergency kit with your family.
Do you have a first aid kit at your home?
Here is my first aid kit.
Let's look at what's inside.
I have bandages in my first aid kit.
And I even keep some triple antibiotic ointment in there.
And some alcohol prep pads.
Those are really good for disinfecting.
And I keep some rubber gloves in my first aid kit as well.
It's important to think about where you would keep your first aid kit.
You wanna put it in the place that you and your family are gonna go in case of severe weather.
We keep ours in the center of our home, in a closet that's under the stairs.
That's our safe place for storms.
Well, guys, have fun creating your first aid kits.
I've got to go.
And luckily, I am prepared.
