AND WHEN THE RUBBER ON THE SHOE RUBS AGAINST THE CARPET, IT CREATES FRICTION, WHICH STOPS THE SHOE FROM SLIDING.

IT LOOKS LIKE THE PUCK DOESN'T SLIDE VERY FAR OVER THE CARPET OR THE RUBBER MAT, BUT IT DOES SLIDE FAR OVER THE FLOOR.

FIRST, SLIDE THE PUCK OVER THE CARPET, THEN THE MAT, AND NOW THE FLOOR.

JUST LIKE THE FIRST TWO TIMES, THE PUCK SLIDES REALLY FAR ON THE SMOOTH FLOOR.
OK, LAST PERSON.
SLIDE THE PUCK AS HARD AS YOU CAN OVER THE CARPET, NOW THE RUBBERAT, AND NOW THE SMOOTH FLOOR.
LET'S DISCOVER WHY THE PUCK SLIDES THE FARTHEST OVER THE FLOOR.
THE FLOOR IS REALLY SMOOTH SO IT DOESN'T CREATE MUCH FRICTION WITH THE PUCK.
NOW FEEL THE RUBBER MAT.
IT'S ROUGH, AND SO IS THE CARPET.
THEY CREATE LOTS OF FRICTION WITH THE PUCK SO IT DOESN'T SLIDE VERY FAR.
BUT THE PUCK DOES SLIDE FAR OVER THE SMOOTH FLOOR.
DRAW SOME OBSERVATIONS IN YOUR JOURNALS.
REMEMBER HOW THE CARPET AND THE RUBBER MAT CREATED LOTS OF FRICTION WITH THE HOCKEY PUCK, AND THE SMOOTH FLOOR CREATED THE LEAST AMOUNT OF FRICTION.
