Build literacy skills while making predictions with this sink-or-float activity.
It's fun to learn about new concepts in a hands-on way. This family does just that with a sink-or-float activity you can try at home. Talk about what sinking and floating actually mean. Then experiment with different objects. Ask your kids to make a prediction about each item before putting them in a bucket or sink of water. You can record your predictions, results and observations on a chart.

- [Narrator] Let's discover something about sink or float.
- We talk about what sinking actually means, when an object goes below the surface.
Floating is when an object stays above the surface.
Then we actually experiment with different objects.
I ask my kids to make a prediction about each item before putting them in water.
- I think it's gonna float because this kind of basketball is like a foamy one.
- We record our results on a chart and then take it a step further.
