(upbeat, happy music) Thanks for tooning in.
(happy, upbeat music) (popping bubble noise) Today we're gonna draw two household pets who, well, don't quite get along.
A goldfish and a cat.
We're gonna see how it turns out.
(happy, playful music) Let's draw.
We're gonna start with the eyes on our goldfish.
(popping bubble sound) We have an oval, and then a letter C backwards.
Now, for the expression on his face.
(popping bubble sound) We have the pupils, and the eyebrows, look a little bit worried, and maybe concerned.
(upbeat, playful music) Now for the mouth.
(upbeat, playful music) We're gonna come down to a point, (upbeat, playful music) down, point, out and in, and we're going to stop right there.
(upbeat, playful music) We see a little bit of the interior, or inside, of the mouth.
So, we're just gonna color that in.
(upbeat, playful music) For the back of our fish, we come down, and around.
(upbeat, playful music) (popping bubble sound) Now we're gonna have our fish sitting inside the bowl.
The bowl is its habitat, the habitat is where a character lives.
So we're gonna have a line that goes across like this, and then we're gonna leave a little gap, (popping bubble sound) and then a line, like this.
(upbeat, happy music) Back in, leave that gap, (upbeat, happy music) over and in, leave that gap.
(upbeat, happy music) That gap is so we can add his little fin, holding on to the bowl.
(upbeat, happy music) Now we can complete all these other lines.
Connect, connect.
(upbeat, happy music) Here's the other fin, out, down, and in.
(upbeat, happy music) Now for the bowl, starting where we left off up here, (popping bubble sound) we're gonna come down, round, flatten it out a little bit, round and up.
(upbeat, happy music) We gonna have to draw the fish's body inside of the bowl.
So we're gonna leave a little space here, come down and in, (upbeat, happy music) down and in, (upbeat, happy music) and then add the tail fin.
(bright upbeat music) There are some props within his habitat.
(quirky, upbeat music) There are some rocks, (quirky, upbeat music) and a castle.
But notice the way I draw the castle.
I'm not using straight lines.
This is called distortion.
(popping bubble sound) It looks sort of wobbly.
(quirky, upbeat music) And the reason it looks kind of wobbly like that, is because of something called refraction, it's the way we see the light, what it has to go through two different kinds of mediums.
We're seeing the light as it bounces off the castle through both the water and the glass.
So this causes refraction that makes it look distorted.
(happy, upbeat piano music) It had a few little specs, to show the gravel.
(popping bubble sound) We're also gonna add just a little bit of reflection on the glass.
(popping bubble sound) Reflection is the way the light shines, bouncing off of the glass.
(upbeat, piano music) Now we're gonna add a little table that, that bowl is sitting on, line over, (quirky, instrumental music) over, (quirky, instrumental music) down, (quirky, instrumental music) and up, (quirky, instrumental music) down, (quirky, instrumental music) and down.
That just gives us a table.
(quirky, instrumental music) Let's add some gills one, two.
(popping bubble sound) (quirky, instrumental music) (children laughing sound effect) As you can see, our little goldfish seems a little bit worried.
That's because there's a character relationship.
(popping bubble sound) Relationship is how one or more characters, interact with one another.
This is a very specific kind of relationship that's quite common in both the animal kingdom and cartoon world.
And that is the relationship of predator and prey.
(tense, instrumental music) One of these characters might end up as lunch.
Don't worry, I think our little fish is pretty smart and it will outsmart that mean old cat.
We're gonna start with the nose for our cat.
It's a triangle.
(popping bubble sound) (happy, instrumental music) Next, the eyes, (happy, instrumental music) oval, (popping bubble sound) but this one's a little bit different.
We've got an eyebrow coming down like that, to form the top of the eyelid, and then around.
(happy, instrumental music) Now, the other eyebrow.
(happy, instrumental music) Now for the pupils.
(happy, instrumental music) He has a very devious look on his face, doesn't he?
(suspense-filled, instrumental music) The mouth.
Down and up, and add a dash, (suspense-filled, instrumental music) same thing on the other side.
(suspense-filled, instrumental music) Lower lip.
(suspense-filled, instrumental music) Let's add a few teeth, (suspense-filled, instrumental music) just a quick letter V. (popping bubble sound) (suspense-filled, instrumental music ending) Now for the head shape, we're gonna start with the top of the head, we're gonna have a line going across like this, this is for some fur-like texture, (popping bubble sound) (happy, playful music) The ears.
(happy, playful music) ears are sort of triangular shaped, but there's a little notch right there, and then again.
(happy, playful music) The interior, or inside of the ear, (happy, playful music) looks like an upside down letter V, (happy, playful music) and then a line across the bottom.
(happy, playful music) Let's add some shading, (popping bubble sound) (happy, playful music) inside the ear.
(happy, playful music) Other ear, same way on the opposite side, we come up, (happy, playful music) down, (happy, playful music) add a notch, (happy, playful music) and down.
(happy, playful music) interior of the ear, upside down V, (popping bubble sound) cross, and, (happy, playful music) shade it in.
(happy, playful music) Now for the sides of the face and the cheeks.
(happy, playful music) We come down, (happy, playful music) down, (happy, playful music) and scribbly lines out, and in.
(happy, playful music) Scribbly lines, and in.
Don't worry about being neat, make it nice and messy.
(happy, playful music) And then that goes right off the bottom of our page.
(happy, playful music) Let's add some whiskers next, (happy, playful music) One, two, three, four (happy, playful music) If you like, you can add some stripes to your cat.
(happy, playful music) There is our cat, and our goldfish.
(upbeat, happy music) I hope they become friends.
(upbeat, happy music) Be sure to, (popping bubble sound) sign your name, take pride in your work.
(upbeat, happy music) I really enjoyed drawing those two characters, it's fun to draw different kinds of relationships, and different kinds of characters.
I hope you had fun too.
This has been Cartoon Academy.
Now it's time to draw to a close.
(upbeat, happy music) (fast, happy piano music)
