[APPLAUSE] Good afternoon everybody.
Thank you all for joining us and welcome to Sound the Bells.
It is a pleasure to be here with my friends, truly are my friends, from the United States Army Field Band.
These Soldiers behind me, they go out and connect with communities all across this nation, with people just like you and me.
And they do it all through the universal language of music.
And they remind us that our military is out there serving on our behalf every day.
And we hope that you enjoy this concert as their holiday gift to you.

[APPLAUSE] The last thing that any Army kid wants to be asked is where you're from because we move around so much, but we brought home with us and we brought our traditions with us and we build them from every place that we went.
We still have the Christmas pickle.
We put out the house shoes for Sinterklaas night when we lived in the Netherlands.
We would go skiing, celebrating mass in Arabba, Italy at a tiny little chapel up in the Dolomites after it had snowed.
I mean, those are things that you simply can't replace.
I would love to have been there for a lot more of them, but we sure made the best out of ones that we did get to celebrate.
How do we celebrate when we're downrange?
Yes, there was a Christmas mass.
We put up a tree.
We acknowledge it on the day, but on a SOF Deployment, we say there's only two things to do work and work out.
It's frankly just another workday because there's work to be done, and you're there with folks that are incredibly committed to doing so, and that's when special operators are doing their best work.

It's very inspiring when you look at the story with the Maccabees.
Miracles can happen.
I think I always like thinking of Hanukkah in that way.
Last Hanukkah, I had just had a baby, and this year she's going to be able to really celebrate with her family and that's exciting.
We're all going to go back to Chicago, including the dog.
Getting together with the Jewish side of my family is really important for celebrating what's so special about our whole family.
The most important Jewish tradition is eating.
No matter what holiday it is, Hanukkah, Passover, we just love getting together and eating great food.
I love the food smells, the fried food smells.
They're always nostalgic for me.
Latkes and jelly donuts.
My fiancée Michelle and I just recently got a puppy and we named him Latke.
I can never decide if I like the applesauce or the sour cream better.
Of course, we always light the candles every single night.
My dad's favorite tradition is letting everyone light their own menorah.
Playing dreidel!
It would get pretty competitive with my family.
And, you know, we're just playing with little chocolate gelt.
The important thing is really just that family is around.

The question is, have you all been really good?
And we have a way of telling each year we get you to reflect a little bit if you've been naughty and if you've been nice.
Yes, the technology is old, but we have fine tuned it to see who, I see up there, is who, are you nice or are you naughty?
Let's take a look.
We have the naughty nice cam once again this year.
And it doesn't fail, this has to be, Ah, the nice cam there.
