Next up is planet Mercury.
Think small, gray, with lots of craters, okay?
- [chirps] ♪ ♪ - [coughs] Hey, Mindy!
Ah!
Hi, Sunspot!
Whatcha up to?
[groans] - We're collecting rocks so we can make our very own rock solar system!
- Wow!
That's a really great idea.
And a really messy one, too.
- You're right!
Now let's look at what we got so far.
This one's red, just like Mars.
And this one's gonna be Earth 'cause it looks like it has swirly clouds on it.
And that's rock-Venus, rock-Uranus, and rock-Neptune!
- What's this one, Mindy?
- That's our rock-Saturn.
The ridge around it reminds me of its icy rings.
- Oh.
Actually, I think this one's a potato.
- [crunching] [affirmative squeak] - [chuckles] I'm not surprised.
My mom and dad like planting fruits and veggies all over the lawn just to see where they'll pop up.
Mmm!
- Hey, look!
A rock-Mercury!
- Small, gray, and crater-y.
Perfect!
- How about this for a rock-Saturn?
It has a pretend ice-ring around it.
[rumbling] - Ow!
Yup, that's a rock all right.
♪ ♪ - One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
But there's one planet missing.
There's eight planets.
- Let's see.
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
We still need our rock-Jupiter!
- [chirps] ♪ ♪ - Ooh!
- This rock is big.
Just like Jupiter.
[straining] Only... [grunts] It's way too heavy.
♪ ♪ [all straining] Put some back into it!
[all straining] - Whoa!
- [grunts] - You're right.
It won't budge.
- Maybe Jet 2 can help us.
[whistles] - Fun.
- Hey, Jet 2.
Think you can help us lift this rock?
- Hello, rock.
Yes.
[Jet 2 whirring] [boings] [cat screeches] - [sighs] Too bad we don't have super strong arms to help us lift it.
- Kids!
I have an exciting surprise for you!
- Oh, we already found the potato you planted, Mom.
Well played.
- Oh, thank you.
I was talking about a different surprise.
An outer space surprise!
- Ooh!
Outer space surprises are much better than potato surprises.
- Yeah, let's go!
- Uh, thanks, but no thanks, Mrs.
Propulsion.
Surprises make me really nervous.
Plus, we're helping Mindy with her rock solar system project.
- But you have to go, Sean!
Because I really want to know what the surprise is!
You can help when you get back.
[Jet 2 whirring] - Trust me, you're gonna love it.
Because this surprise has a special something for each of you!
- Then a space trip it is!
Whoo-hoo!
Come on, Sean!
[thuds] - Bye!
- Uh, are you sure this trip is really necess-- - ♪ Five!
Four!
Three, two, one!
♪ ♪ Doors are shut, engines on ♪ ♪ Everybody in their place?
♪ ♪ Let's go into outer space!
♪ [kids together] ♪ Ready!
Jet!
Go!
♪ - [Sean screaming] ♪ ♪ Okay, what's the surprise?
- Ooh, you tell me.
Look around.
Do you notice anything different?
Ooh.
[gasps] Ooh!
- Uh.
Um.
[gasps] The saucer!
It doesn't look the same as it used to.
There's new gadgets on the dashboard.
- Ooh!
That's the surprise!
As you Earthies say, it's been souped-down.
- Um, I think you mean souped-up.
- Yes!
Souped-up!
With lots of new features.
One made especially for each of you.
First we have the new co-pilot area for Sydney.
- [gasps] Awesome!
- Yes!
I'll get you up to speed on all the controls, Sydney.
Now next, we have the new lab, Which is so Sean.
- Whoa!
This is so cool.
- I don't know what any of those things do, but luckily, Sunspot does.
- He does.
He helped make them.
- [chirps] - Now Jet, check out this new feature.
A variety of interesting horns.
- [gasps] Oh, yeah!
[whimsical horn sounds] This is perfect for me!
[chuckles] They all sound so different.
It's got Jet written all over it!
- And now, for the most important souped-up feature of all, ta-da!
- Is that soup?
- Oh.
Whoops.
Ooh, wrong button.
Oh, but definitely a feature that Sunspot will love.
And now, for the real most important souped-up feature... [robotic whirring] [both gasping] Wow!
- A new robotic arm?
It's just like the one on the space station!
- Yes!
Almost.
But this arm comes with a few Bortronian surprises.
- Suddenly, I like the idea of surprises.
Especially ones we can use to do science!
- So when do we get to try it out, Mom?
- Just as soon as we get to the moon!
- Then what are we waiting for?
[horn honking] Excelsior!
- Ready to help me out, Sydney?
- I was born ready!
[elephant horn honks] - Okay, but I've gotta warn you.
Steering the saucer is a little harder than it loo-- - Hang out, everybody!
[spaceship whirring] - Ooh!
Left!
Right!
No, no, no!
Other right!
Oh-ho-ho!
Brake, Sydney!
- Whoo-hoo-hoo!
- [groaning] - Whoa-oh!
- [laughing] [brakes screech] - That was so fun!
- Oh, yeah.
Big time.
- Ooh!
Not bad for your first time.
Those were some interesting moves.
[horn trumpeting] - And now, it's time to try out the robotic arm!
So, um, what is a robotic arm exactly?
- It's basically a giant lever, Jet.
Like, a seesaw or a shovel.
It's a machine that's used to make work easier.
- Easier how?
- Well, it can be used to lift or grab stuff in outer space.
It can help collect samples from places that are too dangerous for people.
And it can hold astronauts steady as they explore space.
- Sorry, did you say explore space?
- Uh-huh.
- [clears throat] [whimsical honking] That sounds so fun!
Should we try that first?
- Sure!
- Works for me!
♪ ♪ - I feel just like my hero, Neil Armstrong.
A real astronaut!
- And I feel just like Commander Cressida!
- [laughs] Yeah!
Ride 'em, cowboy!
Whoo-hoo-hoo!
[laughing] Whoa-oa!
Wha!
Whoo-hoo-hoo!
- Hmm.
This robotic arm's kinda different.
- Surprise!
That's the Bortronian technology.
It's stretchy!
So now that we've tried the robotic arm in space, how about we try it on the Moon's surface?
- Sounds good to me!
[upbeat music] ♪ ♪ [brakes screech] ♪ ♪ - Ha!
Wow!
Way to stick the landing, Sydney.
- Thanks, Jet!
- Oh-ho-ho!
Yep.
You're really getting the hang of it.
- So who're ready to send the robotic arm into a crater?
- I am!
- Me too!
I bet we can used it to collect us a sample of Moon dust.
- Only one way to find out!
Let's start digging!
♪ ♪ - Wow!
That is one stretchy arm!
- I wonder if we'll ever see it again.
- It's back!
And it collected a bunch of Moon dust!
Let's get it in the saucer's new lab and see what it's made of!
♪ ♪ Whoa!
Apparently, it's made up of crushed rocks, minerals, and tiny bits of glass.
- A-mazing!
But there's one more thing I want to do with the robotic arm.
- What's that, Jet?
- See if it can lift something really heavy!
♪ ♪ [robotic whirring] [gasps] Look!
A giant Moon rock!
[laughs] - Hmm, that could work as a rock-Jupiter in Mindy's solar system model.
- You're right, Sydney!
Should we bring it back to Earth with us?
- [affirmative chirps] ♪ ♪ [horn honks] [chirping] [rumbling thud] [triumphant fanfare] - Wait.
I've got a good idea-- how we can make something ourselves, back home.
And a souped-up saucer is my inspiration!
- Ooh!
All righty then!
Back to Earth we go!
But there's one last thing the robotic arm needs to do.
- What's that, Mrs.
Propulsion?
- Help with saucer maintenance.
It got very dusty when we landed, so we'll need to clean it.
♪ ♪ [kids laughing] [together] Good job, Sunspot!
- Okay, Sydney.
Let's bring her home!
- You got it!
Hang on, everybody!
[variety of honking] [honking continues] - Uh, okay.
Maybe I should rethink that horn.
SYDNEY: Whoo-hoo!
Yeah!
[laughing] - So?
What was it?
What was the big surprise?
- My mom souped-up the saucer with all kinds of new features!
Including a robotic arm.
- A robotic arm?
What's that?
- It's a machine that's used to make work easier.
Like, helping astronauts lift heavy things.
- Hey!
I know a heavy thing that needs lifting!
Our rock-Jupiter.
- I know!
Which is why we made our own version of a robotic arm, Mindy.
- You did?
- Yup.
Using an Earth board and a soccer ball.
- [chirping] - Hmm.
It's okay, but not great.
- Use your imagination, Sean.
- Now all we gotta do is push down on the board to move our rock-Jupiter.
- Hello!
Push.
Yes.
[mechanical whirring] - [squealing] [triumphant fanfare] - Hooray!
My rock solar system is finally done!
The arm worked, Sydney!
- [playful chirping] [all cheering] Whoo-hoo!
Yeah!
♪ ♪ [playful music] ♪ ♪ - [grunting] - Uh, it doesn't look like Mitchell is helping Cody with his schoolwork.
- That's not schoolwork, Jet.
He's just trying to train Cody to do some dog tricks.
- Man, I did want to enter Cody in the Boxwood Terrance Animal Talent Show, but since he can't even do one simple trick, there's no way.
- Well, maybe next Earth year.
I mean, regular year here on Earth.
You'll be able to do it.
- Maybe.
Well, I'm off to visit my grandparents for the weekend, but I need someone to take care of Cody.
- Oh!
Ooh!
Ooh!
Pick me!
Pick me!
♪ ♪ Great news!
I agreed to pet-sit overnight.
And by I, I mean you, Sunspot.
- [inquisitive chirp] - I hope you'll help with this "Earth pet-sitting" thing.
- [slurping] ♪ ♪ [keyboard clacking] - [yowls] - [chirping] - What did Sunspot say?
- Uh.
He's surprised that Cody doesn't know how to use even a simple computer, and has never done any programming, or coding.
- Well, not many pets can do that.
Actually, uh, no pets can do that.
- Apparently, Cody can't even learn simple Earth doggy tricks.
[gasps] Or can he?
- Did you just get a big idea?
- Yes!
And yes!
[drumroll] Maybe we figure out a way to teach Cody here some dog tricks.
- Hmm.
Interesting.
Like, an experiment.
- I like it.
A backyard experiment to try to train Cody.
- Let's do it!
Dogs.
Training.
Sounds easy-peasy!
- Totally peasy-easy!
Why don't you show Cody a few tricks, Sunspot?
[whimsical music] - [discouraged yowl] - [chirps] - Nice going, Sunspot.
But I think we need simpler dog tricks for Cody.
Remember, he's from Earth!
So how do we train him?
- Scientific method!
- A lot of practice!
- Show videos?
[all giggling] - Here's an idea.
Let's be scientific about it, and see which way works best.
- Uh-huh.
But can we try my way first?
I'm sure it'll work.
♪ ♪ [all cheering] ♪ ♪ - [clears throat] [imitates barking] ♪ ♪ Okay, doggies.
Here goes the Jet method!
Everyone show Cody all the tricks at the same time.
Ready!
Jet!
Go!
[overlapping grunts] Whoo!
Okay, Cody.
Now it's your turn.
Go!
- [yowls] - Come on, Cody.
You can do it.
We did, and we're just kids with dog ears.
- Hmm.
Maybe we should try a different way to train him.
- We could try my way.
The scientific method?
- Oh, yeah!
How's that go again?
- I thought you would never ask.

The scientific method's worked before.

- That's what I've been saying!
- Not really, Jet, but let's all train Cody!
- Step one.
Ask a question based on observation.
- How about: Can Cody learn tricks after we show him what to do?
- Sounds like a good question to me.
- [chirping] - How's that sound, Cody?
- [yowls] - I observed that Cody didn't learn anything when we all demonstrated tricks at the same time.
- Step two.
Make a prediction.
Also called a hypothesis.
- Good to know!
Okay.
I predict that if we show Cody the tricks one at a time, he'll be able to do them.
- Okay.
Step three.
Let's test if our predictions are right or wrong.
- Just try your best, Cody.
We know you're not used to this.
Watch really good.
And who knows, maybe you'll surprise us.
- And Sunspot, you'll record the whole thing so we can gather information.
- [affirmative chirp] - Okay!
Let's do it!
[playful music] ♪ ♪ - Watch me, Cody.
I'm really good at this!
♪ ♪ - [chirping] - [discouraged yowl] [barks] - Are you ready to try each trick one at a time, Cody?
- [whines] - Remember.
You crawl through this tunnel.
Jet, wanna show Cody how?
♪ ♪ - Okay.
So Cody needs more work on the tunnel.
Let's try the slide.
- Up the steps and down the slide.
- [whines] [yelps] [whining] - Well, almost.
- Okay.
Next.
Step four.
We observe what happened and gather information.
Sunspot?
- [chirps] - [whines] ♪ ♪ - Cody needs a lot more practice.
And maybe more than just us demonstrating things.
- I'm not sure if Cody even knows what we want him to do.
- [chirps] - Earth pets are a mystery.
When I want Sunspot to do something-- like read me a book, or build me a pancake making robot-- I just ask him.
- Sunspot and Cody are way different.
When we talk, Cody just hears, "Blah-blah-blah-blah, food, blah-blah-blah."
- So showing and telling Cody isn't working so far.
There must be a better way.
Let's think.
[accordion interlude] [deliberative music] ♪ ♪ - This olive-mango-liver bar my dad made is pretty good.
both: Yuck!
- Mm-mm-mmm!
- [barking] ♪ ♪ [sniffing] - [gasps] You guys!
I know what we can use to train Cody!
[both gasp] [together] Treats!
- A new hat!
I mean, treats!
Better than a new hat.
- So let's try training Cody using treats.
[together] Yes!
- All right.
New hypothesis.
Cody can be trained using treats.
Boo-ya!
♪ ♪ Treats are set.
- Ready?
Set?
Crawl through the tunnel, Cody!
Eat the treats!
- [barking] [drumroll] [thuds] [all cheering] - He did it!
The treats worked!
- Great idea, Mindy!
Now maybe if we put fewer treats in the tunnel, Cody will still crawl through it.
♪ ♪ - There.
Just two treats.
Go, Cody!
- [barking] [whimpers] [overlapping encouragements] - Like this, Cody.
Come on, you guys.
Show Cody.
Get in.
♪ ♪ [all straining] [rumbling] ♪ ♪ - [barks] - [chuckles] Cody!
You made it through!
Ah, the power of yummy Earth treats!
[together] Jet, no!
They're dog treats!
♪ ♪ - [gulping] Oh, right!
[chuckles] But I gotta say, these taste way better than the school cafeteria food on Bortron 7!
♪ ♪ [exhales] - So if putting out treats worked for the tunnel, maybe it'll work for the slide.
- Eat the Earth treats, Cody.
Up you go!
♪ ♪ - [barks] ♪ ♪ [squeaking] [crunching] ♪ ♪ - Well, it worked.
But man, that took up a lot of treats.
- I wonder if we could get him down the slide with fewer treats.
♪ ♪ One on top of the slide, and one in the middle.
♪ ♪ - [barking] ♪ ♪ [all cheering] - Wow!
Do you think the treats will work on the hoops?
- Let's try!
[heroic music] ♪ ♪ - [barks] [all gasping] ♪ ♪ [all chanting] Cody!
Cody!
Cody!
[all cheering] - Yeah, Cody!
- Here's to Cody!
- And to the new hypothesis that worked!
Step five is drawing conclusions.
I think using treats helped Cody learn the tricks.
Boo-ya!
Science.
- So step six is next?
- Yup!
For step six, we share our findings.
That means we share the results of the experiment.
So let's go show Mitchell!
[all cheering] Yeah!
Cody!
♪ ♪ - Wait, you taught Cody some tricks?
I'll believe it when I see it.
[drumroll] ♪ ♪ - [whimpering] [yelps] all: Come on, Cody!
Go!
- You can do this, Cody!
- Remember your training!
- [whimpers] [yawns] [yelps] - Told you.
Cody doesn't do tricks.
♪ ♪ - [yelps] [barks] all: Cody!
[playful music] ♪ ♪ - [barking] ♪ ♪ [barks] ♪ ♪ - [chirps] ♪ ♪ [all gasping] Whoa!
- That's so cool!
- Oh, my Gosh!
- Wow.
After we finished training him, Sunspot worked with Cody a little more.
Pretty good, huh?
- [chirps] - [whines] [all laughing] [together] Oh, Cody!
♪ ♪ - Cody, did you just go through the tunnel, slide down a slide, ride a zip line, jump through hoops, bounce on a trampoline, do flips, and then walk on your back legs?
- [whines] - [chirping] - There's something strange going on here, Sunspot.
I'm not sure what, but I will find out!
- ♪ Jet Propulsion ♪ [together] Ready!
