What is Sand?

Chompy demonstrates to the kids how sand is made.
Parrotfish are a big part of a process called bioerosion, breaking down hard substances such as coral and creating much of the world’s sand through natural processes such as eating and then expelling sand as a waste product. Bioerosion is key to keeping coral reefs healthy and thriving, and creating the sand on the ocean floor and on beaches around the world.
