Today We will have some fun learning about in blend you will have a chance to help us to solve some word mystery.
We will also learn about adjectives when we write some prescriptive sentences.
So grab some paper or something to write on and something to write with and let's get started.

(bright music) - Hello learners, I'm Ms. Rogers.
Today, we're going to review some in blends that Mrs.
Spear worked with you on in the last episode.
So let's get started by looking at two words.
The word think and the word bunk.
Now, both of these words have the nk at the end, the n makes the n sound and the k makes the k sound but when you blend them together really fast, it makes the nk sound.
Can you say nk?
One more time.
Nk,very good.
Now I also have another blend and it's the nt blend like in the word went.
Went ,W-E-N-T, went the n makes n sound, and the t makes t sound, put them together as a blend as nt.
So I'm going to put these on my chart here where I have for the nk blend and the nt blend.
So my first word, bunk would go under the nk blend think would go under nk as well.
And then we have finally went, so went with the nt blend that will go right over here.
Now ,we're going to sort through some more words and we're going to put them on our chart, but I'm going to need your help.
So let's start with the word blink I can blink really fast.
Can you blink really fast?
Whoa, that's super fast.
So here's the word blink, B-L-I-N-K, blink Now this I makes the long e sound.
So that's why the word is the blink.
So where should I put that on our chart under nk or nt?
Nk very good.
Our next word is trunk.
I like to put all of my groceries in the trunk.
T-R-U-N-K, Trunk.
Where should that go?
Correct under the nk blend.
Stunt ,weeds can stunt or hinder the growth of some plants, stunt, S-T-U-N-T, stunt, nt all right.
My next word is runt.
The puppy was so small, he was the smallest in the group and they call it a runt ,R-U-N-T, runt.
Where should we put this one?
nt, there we go.
Let's go to another one ,drink.
I like to drink a lot of water.
Drink, D-R-I-N-K ,drink another one for nk blend.
All right ,we have a few more, animals like to hunt for food, hunt, H-U-N-T, hunt ,nt.
All right.
Two more, grunt, pigs like to grunt or make a grunting sound, when they are eating grunt, G-R-U-N-T, grunt another one for our nt blend.
Our final one is spunk.
He has a lot of spunk, which means energy.
Spunk, S-P-U-N-K, spunk.
Yes.
That should go under nk blend.
So let's read our sides for nk bunk blend bunk, blink, drink, think, trunk and Spunk (laughs) Now our nt or N-T blend.
Went, stunt, grunt, runt, and hunt.
Excellent job sorting our blends.
Now, I want you to make sure that you keep an eye out and an ear out for blends that end with nk and nt in the things that you read.
So this will help us again to learn how to read and to write even better.
(upbeat music) - Hey there learners, it's Mrs.
Spear.
Can you tell from my outfit today that you are going to be detectives with me and you're going to help me to solve a mystery word.
Here's the letters that we'll need they are nine letters altogether.
Let's say the name of the letters, and you're going to write them down where you are okay, great.
You need letter a, letter i, letter g, letter h, letter l letter r, letter s, letter t and you need a second letter t. Those are the nine letters that you'll need to solve our mystery word today.
Write those down and see the sounds that you know about those letters.
As you write them.
Now we'll start building.
(soft music) Okay.
In my special envelope here, I have a three letter word.
The word is sit.
I think I'll sit down, sit.
Let's do the sound in sit, S-I-T, sit.
Let's think about what letters match those sounds that we have here on our board.
Yes, the s is letter s how about the i sound letter I.
And the t, you got it Letter t , S-I-T, sit , let's sky write or if you're writing at home, you can write where you are.
We're going to write the three letter word sit.
You would write it, if you made your columns where you are, you're gonna write it under the column that says number three, here we go.
S-I-T, sit.
S-I-T spells sit.
(soft music) wonderful job writing the word sit.
Now we are going to make another word that has three letters, but there's a different sound and letter in the word.
The word is, instead of sit, lit.
I lit the candle, lit.
Can you say lit?
Great.
Let's do the sounds in lit, L-I-T, lit.
When I look at sit and I think about L-I-T, there's one letter and sound that needs to change.
What is it?
Yes.
Let's take out letter s this and what do we need to put there instead that makes sound l, you've got letter l. We just turned to sit into lit.
L-I-T let's sky write it.
L-I-T ,lit.
Okay, an you see the sounds as you write L-I-T and put it under the three letter column.
As you finish writing up, we are going to be thinking about changing to a four letter word.
The word we're going to make is, list.
Can you say list?
I often make a list when I go grocery shopping, list.
Let's do the sounds in list.
L-I-s- t, list.
If I look at lit and now I think about list, what sound do I need to add in there?
Yeah, there's a ,s ,that needs to go there.
Where should it go?
You've got it before t and what letter should it be?
Yes.
Letter s look at that.
It's the st blend that we've been working on instead of being at the beginning of a word, though, it's at the end of a word.
L-I-S-T, list , L- I -S- T let's sky write it and say each letter sound.
L-I-s-T, List.
Well then, and it has four letters.
So let's put it under the column that has four.
As you're finishing that up.
what we are doing next, also has four letters.
The word is last.
Can you say last?
I like to think about a summer that would last forever and ever, because I just love summer so much.
Is there a season you wish would last forever?
Let's say the sounds in last, L-A-S-T, last .
Now, what do we need to change to go from list to last?
I here in the middle, there's a sound that sounds like, a, what letter would that be?
Yes, letter a.
So we need to take out the i and instead put in letter a, and now it says, L-A-S-T, last, and we know that our blend can go together and say st, so you could also do, L-A-S-T, last, let's write the letters and say the sounds ,L-A-S-T, last.
Well done, and I guess it's four letters.
So we going to put it down here.
And while you're finishing up writing last, am going to clear off my board cause I don't need any of these letters for the next word.
Well, shouldn't have said I didn't need any of the letters, but it's going to sound a little different.
The next word that we're going to say and do is the word tar.
Tar goes on streets, roads to seal them.
Can you say the word tar?
Nice.
Let's listen for sounds in tar.
Ready?
Listen.
T-A-R, tar there are two sounds, but there's three letters.
T ,what letters that gonna be, makes the t sound, letter t, so it goes to the beginning.
Okay.
Now there's two letters that were together to say ar, do you know what those letters are?
It's a r says, a r let's put a r together, thanks to the t, and now we've spelled the word tar.
T-A-R, tar is spelled T-A-R let's sky write, and do the sounds T-A-R, tar.
And now let's do the letter names, T-A-R spells tar.
It has three letters so put it down here under sit and lit because it has three letters.
Okay, Now, we've been talking a lot about the sky, and there's some things in the sky that we can see at night that are very bright.
What is in the sky at night that is very bright?
A star ,Let's say star.
Good, let's do the sounds in star, S-T-A-R, star.
How could we turn tar into star?
You've got it.
Let the s at the beginning goes with t to make the st sound, St ar, star or st r, star.
Let's sky write it S-T-A-R spells star.
Excellent.
So we haven't talked too much yet about the mystery word, but they're always connected to something we're learning about, right?
So we just made the word star that's a hint for you.
And we've been thinking about the daytime and the night time sky.
And so keep that in mind.
And again, hopefully you've written star right here under the four letter word column that you have.
Okay.
We're good to go.
(soft music) Alright.
Are you ready?
The next word that we're going to write is the word, Hi, like, hi, I'm Mrs.
Spear.
How are you?
Hi.
Can you say hi?
Great.
Let's do the sounds we hear in hi, H-I, hi.
What letters do we have that would make the h and the, i have sound.
You've got it.
Letter h and letter i those two letters together, Say hi, let's sky Write them and say the sounds.
Here we go, H-I, hi, good job.
Now, write H-I, Hi, and make sure that it goes under the two letter column.
Okay.
Then last we're going to make The last we're going to make before we solve our mystery word, is the word light.
There's a very bright light on, in here, light.
Or if you've ever noticed, I have the light on my magnifying glass that I use, light.
Let's think about the sounds that we know in light, L-I-G-H-T, light.
What letters do we know that could match to those sounds L-I-G-H-T. L letter l .
What about the I sound?
What letter could that be?
Yeah, letter, i, what sound do you hear last?
T that'd be letter t, right?
Here's the problem .
We already made this word and we know that that word says lit.
So I'm going to teach you something right now.
We need to have something to help I say the i sound, I'm gonna move the letter t over.
There are two letters down here that help i say i.
You might know what they are.
It's letter g and h, when we put g and h next to letter i, they help i to say the i sound, so this one chunk of letters, I-G-H says, i, this is how we spell light.
L-I-G-H-T, light.
L- I- G- H- T there's five letters.
Let's sky write it and say the sounds as we write, ready?
LI-GH-T, light, and now say the letter names, L-I-G-H-T, light.
Light has five letters, so I'm gonna put it right here.
Now we've made a bunch of words today.
I told you that our word is connected to the sky that we've been looking at.
It's actually connected to the night time sky and the word light is in it.
(soft music) Okay.
So light, is in mystery word.
It has something to do with the sky at night, and it has light in it.
And I'll tell you a hint.
The letters left have already made a word for us.
Can you guess what the word is?
I'm gonna to tell you that light goes at end, and there's one word at the beginning that starts with the st blend, st. Do you know what that would be?
St, yes.
You got it.
Starlight is our mystery word well done.
You helped me using what you know about letters and sounds to build all of these words and help me solve the mystery word of Starlight.
Let's do all the sounds together, ready?
St or -A-R-L-I-G-H-T, Starlight.
So we think about how many sounds it's, S-T-A-R-L-I-G-H-T, starlight there's six sounds, but let's count how many letters?
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, nine letters.
But only six sounds because we have some helpers in here to make those sounds.
So great job, everybody, doing your mystery road solving today.
Write down starlight and celebrate for being great detective.

We've been working really hard.
Now ,it's time to give our brains a break.
Today for brain our break, we're gonna do something that I love to do in the snow.
We're going to build a snowman.
Are you ready?
Stand up with me.
Great.
The first thing we're gonna do is we're gonna push, push, push our snowballs.
Do that with me, push, push, push your snowball through the snow.
Now, let's get ready to stack them.
We've got three snowballs to build our snowman.
Ready?
Take the big one and stack it.
Let's do the middle, ready?
Stack.
What do we need on top?
A head?
That's right.
Get the smaller snowball and stack it one, two, three.
Now, we need to give our snowman some arms, stick in the arms, great.
What else does a snowman need?
A face, let's put on two coal eyes.
Now, we need a carrot nose.
Get your carrot and stick it on, great.
Finally, let's do a smile.
Smile, smile, smile, smile.
Your snowman needs a scarf.
Grab a scarf and wrap it around.
And the last thing we need on our snowman, is a hat.
Find a hat and put it on top.
That's a great snowman.
Thanks for brain breaking with me today friends and for building a snowman.
(upbeat music) - Today, we're going to learn about how writers use adjectives when writing so that it could be more interesting and to also help paint a picture in the mind of the reader, the script of writing also includes many sensory details that help the reader to think about their senses.
Your sense of sight, your sense of hearing, your sense of touch, your sense of smell and your sense of taste.
(laughs) Descriptive writing, also sometimes paint pictures of feelings.
We have learned about how scientists use their senses to make observations, or to take a closer look around them, and we are also going to use our senses even further, when we're talking about the sky.
Now, adjectives are really important.
They are words that are descriptive words.
They include color, size, shape, number, how something feels, tastes, smells, looks like and even sounds like.
Now those are words, that answer questions Like, what kind?
How many?
What does it look like?
How does it feel?
Let's see if we can pick out some of our adjectives in the sentence that I have on the board.
I actually have two for you.
So let's take a close look.
(upbeat music) Let's see if we can pick out the words that are adjectives in my sentence.
My first sentence says, ''The hamburger is hot.''
Now the thing or the noun that we're referring to is the hamburger.
So what would be the adjective?
What word describes the hamburger?
The hamburger is hot.
Yes.
The word is hot.
Hot describes the hamburger it describes the temperature, what it feels like, or when you're eating, what it tastes like it tastes really hot.
It feels really hot.
Now let's try to do it for a second sentence.
''I see the yellow bird.''
What's the subject, or what's the thing or noun in this sentence.
We're talking about the bird.
What describes the bird?
What's the adjective?
Yellow in this case it is a color.
I see the yellow bird.
Good job.
