Literacy is more than just reading.
It's powerful to combine reading with activities that allow kids to recognize the intersection of science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
At the Rutherford County Technology Engagement Center our son Breyer loves to explore the STEAM kits.
Parents can check these out for two weeks or even make their own.
Each contains an activity and a book.
Today we are exploring space and start with a book about a Mars rover.
He's got his suit and his helmet.
He's ready to go.
The activity in this kit is a Space Rover coating set, popular because kids experiment with coding and get to engage in imaginative play.
The kit allows Breyer to learn about Mars and imagine his own outer space adventure.
Learning how to read symbols, use and evaluate tools through STEAM activities help kids reflect and respond in a fun way.
