My daughter is four years old and loves letters and reading.
We use a matching activity that allows Kisakye to improve her word recognition.
- [Kisakye] C - [Mom] U - [Kisakye] U P - [Mom] Cup.
- [Kisakye] C Cup.
- [Mom] Mmm-hmm.
I draw pictures on a sticky note and then have Kisakye use letter magnets to spell out the picture.
So what does that spell?
- [Kisakye] Sun.
- [Mom] Sun.
This is enhancing spelling and word recognition skills.
- [Kisakye] Sun.
- [Mom] Sun.
Good job.
You did so good.
When a word is matched with a picture, I have Kisakye say the letters.
- [Kisakye] Ear.
- [Mom] Ear.
Yeah.
This activity can also be used to promote the use of phonics, which is great for building literacy skills.
What does that spell?
- [Kisakye] Ear.
- [Mom] Ear.
Yeah.
