TAURUS THE BULL IS ONE OF THE OLDEST KNOWN# CONSTELLATIONS - KEEPING ITS BULLISH DESCRIPTION FOR MILLENIA, IT MIGHT EVEN BE THE SUBJECT OF# ANCIENT CAVE PAINTINGS!
HERE’S HOW TO FIND IT.
HIT THE DARKNESS ANY NIGHT THIS# WEEK AROUND 3:30 AM AND LOOK EAST; LOOK FOR A BRIGHT ORANGE STAR# RISING.
THAT’S ALDEBARAN OR ALPHA TAURI.
AN ORANGE GIANT STAR ABOUT# TWO-AND-A-HALF TIMES THE SIZE OF OUR SUN.
AL-DEBARAN MEANS THE FOLLOWER IN# ARABIC.
IT *FOLLOWS* THE PLEIADES, AN OPEN STAR CLUSTER - HERE.
IT ALSO# APPEARS TO SIT IN ANOTHER CLUSTER, THE HYADES, THOUGH AL- IS# ACTUALLY MUCH CLOSER TO US.
TAURUS’ SECOND BRIGHTEST STAR IS# ELNATH, HERE ON ONE OF THE BULL’S HORNS.
YOU CAN BE SURE YOU’RE LOOKING AT# THE RIGHT STAR IF YOU WAIT A BIT, AND SEE VENUS THE MORNING STAR, ORION’S# HOURGLASS, AND JUPITER TOO!
ALL BEFORE SUNRISE.
ENJOY YOUR MORNING, DON’T TAKE# ANY BULL - AND KEEP LOOKIN’ UP!
