ALMA: “The Beach Blahs” [♪♪♪] ALMA: André's coming over, and then we're going to the beach!
ANDRÉ: [in high-pitched voice] Hi, Alma!
Ready to swim with me?
ALMA: [giggles] Totally!
But I guess André's not coming?
Aww... Too bad.
He loves the beach.
ANDRÉ: Oh, I'm coming!
BETO: ¡Qué padre!
BETO: Hey!
Nice board!
ANDRÉ: Thanks!
I call him Mr. Fins.
And I'm André.
ALMA: This is Beto.
He just moved here from San Diego.
ANDRÉ: Whoa!
That's super far away!
BETO: Yup.
So whatcha doing with Mr. Fins today?
ALMA: We're going to the beach!
BETO: Seriously?!
I used to go to the beach all the time in San Diego!
It looked like this.
Super tall palm trees, and super soft sand!
ANDRÉ: Whooaa!
Mr. Fins would love that.
BETO: [chuckles] But my favorite was the lady who sold elotes on the beach!
ANDRÉ: What are elotes?
BETO: Corn on the cob.
ANDRÉ: Mmm!
My favorite!
ALMA: Corn?!
I love corn!
BETO: Then you'd love elotes.
They're roasted.
And you add lime, mayo, queso fresco, and sprinkle on some chile powder... Mmmm, so good.
ALMA: Okay.
I just ate breakfast, but I could eat one of those right now!
BETO: I miss my elotes and my beach.
ANDRÉ: Hmm, maybe you wouldn't miss your beach so much if you went to ours?
ALMA: Yeah!
You could swim all day, build sandcastles... ANDRÉ: And eat hot dogs!
BETO: [gasp] Like real New York City hotdogs?
ALMA: Uh-huh.
ANDRÉ: Yep, the real deal!
Hey, do you want to come with us?
I can ask my parents to ask yours.
BETO: YEAH!!
[sing-song] Going to the beach!
¡Vamos a la playa!
ALMA/ANDRÉ/BETO: [sing-song] Yeah!
Going to the beach!
¡Vamos a la playa!
[giggles] [subway train rumbling] [♪♪♪] BETO: You know, when we moved here, I didn't think I'd get to go to the beach ever again!
I didn't even know New York had a beach!
[Goat bleats] ALMA/ANDRÉ/BETO: [gasp] [Goat bleats] EVERYONE: [laughs] ANDRÉ: New York has a.. lot of things.
JAMES: Oh yeah, and we'll give you the full Bronx Beach experience, which means sun... sand... and... [Goat bleats] NEA: Goats!
EVERYONE: [laughs] ALMA : You're gonna have a sa-weet time.
BETO: I'm already having a great time!
I've never taken a train to the beach before!
In San Diego, we drove everywhere.
ALMA: Here, you can pretty much go everywhere on the subway and buses.
ANDRÉ: And everyone rides them!
[Goat bleats] ALMA: Welcome to our Bronx beach!
[seagulls squawks] [kids laughing] BETO: Uh... Is that the end of the beach?
ANDRÉ: Yeah, you can see the whole beach from here.
BETO: It's kinda small.
I guess that's cool.
At least we're at the beach.
BETO: [sing-song] We're at the beach!
¡Estamos en la playa!
ANDRÉ/ALMA: [sing-song] ¡La playa!
Yeah yeah!
¡La playa!
ALMA: Woo, Woo!
ANDRÉ: Oh!
C'mon!
KIDS: [laughs] BETO: Oh!
¡Qué padre!
I found treasure!
ALMA: Ooh!
ANDRÉ: Whoa, sea glass!
ALMA: Huh?
BETO: It's regular glass that the ocean made super smooth.
But I've never seen one like this!
NEA: Beto, I think you also found our beach spot.
Thank you!
ALMA: Told ya this beach was gonna be sa-weet.
BETO: [chuckles] Sí, pero... where are the palm trees?
ANDRÉ: Ah...
I don't think I've ever seen palm trees here before... BETO: Can we take a look?
Just in case?
ANDRÉ: Can we, Mom?
NEA: Sure, but stay where I can see you.
ALMA: Mm-hmm.
Let's go!
ANDRÉ: [grunts] ANDRÉ: Hey!
I found trees!
BETO: [gasp] Where?!
Where?!
ANDRÉ: Over there!
But... they're not palm trees.
Just Bronx trees.
BETO: Oh... bummer.
ALMA: Hey, look, I found one!
ANDRÉ: That umbrella is the only thing around here that looks like a palm tree.
BETO: Hm.. ALMA: Guess our beach doesn't have any palm trees, but we do have a... SQUID GUY!
SQUID GUY: Squiddle-doo!
Squiddle-dee!
It's Ceviche Sunday!
All you can eat!
BETO: Oh!
[chuckles] I've never seen that before.
JAMES: Hey, kids!
Who wants snacks?
ANDRÉ: Coming, Dad!
BETO: Uhm.. Do you think an elote lady will be around too?
ANDRÉ: I hope so.
I really want to try one!
ALMA: I dunno if this beach has an elote lady.
But.. [seagulls squawks] we've got a bunch of seagulls who love bagels!
[seagulls squawks] ALMA: [giggling] That's how you know it's a New York City seagull.
Our seagulls love bagels!
JAMES: Mmmm.. BETO: Back in San Diego, I used to watch the sun set over the water.
ANDRÉ: Nice!
Can we watch the sunset later?
NEA: Sorry, kiddos.
The sun doesn't set over the water on this beach.
We're facing East.
And sounds like Beto's beach faces West, where the sun sets.
ANDRÉ/ALMA/BETO: Awww.
BETO: I wish I could see the sun set on my beach again.
Or see the surfers on the waves.
We have tons of surfers in San Diego.
ANDRÉ: Mr. Fins will surf with you.
ALMA: Can we play in the water, please?
JAMES: Absolutely.
ANDRÉ: Yes!
JAMES: We'll watch you from here.
NEA: Just stick to the shallow part.
ALMA: YES!
ANDRÉ: Wooo!
JAMES/NEA: [laughs] NEA: [kisses James] ALMA: Woo-hoo!
[giggles] ANDRÉ: Woo!
[giggles] [water splashing] ALMA: Come in the water, Beto!
[seagulls squawks] [splashing] ALMA: [giggling] [water drip] BETO: [shivers] That water's freezing!
[sigh] I'm going back.
ALMA: Do you think the water's cold?
ANDRÉ: Not any colder than it normally is.
[splashing] ANDRÉ: Woo!
[chuckles] ALMA: Beto looks bummed.
But we're at the beach!
The BEACH!
I want him to have a good time, but how can I help him do that?
I gotta think about this.
BETO: [sing-song]: Going to the beach!
¡Vamos a la playa!
Yeah!
ALMA: Beto loves the beach.
He really does!
BETO: I wish I could see the sun set on my beach again.
ALMA: Oh, I think he's sad because he misses his old beach.
BETO: Oh!
¡Qué padre!
I've never seen one like this!
ANDRÉ: Whoa, sea glass!

ALMA: And I guess our beach IS really different than his... Oh!

ALMA: I'm gonna talk to Beto.
Wanna come?
ANDRÉ: Okay.
[splashing] ALMA: Oye, Beto... BETO: ¿Sí?
ALMA: I know your beach in San Diego was pretty great.
You must miss it a lot.
BETO: Yeah... ALMA: But.. you're gonna love this beach too.
It has a lot of great things!
BETO: Really?
ANDRÉ: Totally.
Like, there are basketball courts over there... [basketball rattles backboard] ALMA: And lots of sand to play in... BETO: Yeah.. and the subway ride here was pretty fun.
ALMA: Don't forget about the goat.
[bleats] BETO: And I guess I did find treasure on your beach!
JAMES: Who wants a hot dog?
BETO: Are those real New York City hot dogs?
JAMES: They sure are!
Get ‘em while they're hot.
ANDRÉ: Yum!
Can't wait!
ALMA: Ohh, Yum!
BETO: I can't wait!
ALMA: Go ahead, try it, Beto.
ANDRÉ: Yeah, they're my favorite!
BETO: [bites] [chewing] Mmm!
So good!
I think you're right it is pretty great here.
ALMA: [bites] [with mouth full] I know, right?!
NEA: Mm-mm-mm.
JAMES: [bites] Mmm..
So good.
BETO: [bites] Mm.
Okay, I'm ready to give this beach another try.
ANDRÉ: Mr. Fins is down with that!
ANDRÉ: Yeah!
Woo!
ALMA: Woohoo!
BETO: Woo!
BETO: Whoa!
He looks like a sword!
[hip-hop music] BETO: [sing-song] Dancing on the beach!
¡Bailamos en la playa!
Yes!
ANDRÉ/ALMA/SQUID GUY: [sing-song] La playa!
Yeah, yeah!
La playa!
ALMA: Woo!
Woo!
ALMA/ANDRÉ/BETO: [giggling] [water splashes] BETO: The water's really not that cold.
It's kinda the same as my beach.
ALMA: Well, this is your beach now, too.
BETO: Hey, you're right, it is!
[splashes water] ALMA: [squeals] Ahh!
You can't splash me over here!
[giggles] ELOTE WOMAN: ¡Elotes!
BETO: Wait, do you hear that?
ELOTE WOMAN: ¡Tengo elotes!
Elotes for sale!
BETO: [gasp] An Elote Lady!
ALMA: Elotes?
Here?!
ANDRÉ: No way!
ELOTE WOMAN: ¡Tengo elotes!
Elotes for sale!
BETO: That's not the elote lady from my old beach, but she IS the elote lady from my new beach.
JAMES: Who wants elotes?
ALMA: I do!
ANDRÉ: Me!
BETO: Yessss!
JAMES: Then let's go!
JAMES: You know, I had my first elote on a beach in Mexico.
BETO: Me too!
ELOTE WOMAN: Here you go!
¡Gracias!
JAMES: One for you, one for you, and one for you!
ANDRÉ: [bites] Mmm!
Are these like the elotes on your old beach, Beto?
BETO: Even better!
BETO: [sing-song] ¡Estamos en la playa!
Mm!
Eating our elotes!
Mm!
ANDRÉ/ALMA: [sing -song] ¡Elotes!
Yeah yeah!

KIDS: [giggles] ALMA: I love corn... just as much as I love our beach.
ANDRÉ/BETO: [humming same rhythm] [bites] ALMA: And I'm way way wayyy happy Beto loves it too!
[bites] Mmm... [♪♪♪] [♪♪♪] ALMA: “The Last Sandcastle” [seagulls squawking] [laughter] ALMA: Ahh...
Nothing like the smell of the salty sea and sunscreen!
I LOVE the beach!
JUNIOR: [groans] Are we there yet?
ALMA: Whoa, Junior, how many sandcastles are you going to build today?
JUNIOR: Just one... but a super duper ginormous one.
ALMA: I gotchu.
JUNIOR: Thanks, Alma.
ALMA: Whoa.
JUNIOR: This way, Alma!
[♪♪♪] Uhm... Too dry.
[♪♪♪] Mmm..
Uh, too wet.
[♪♪♪] [gasp] Ahh, just right!
It has sand, water, sun, and more sand.
[seagulls squawks] [water lapping] ALMA: ¡Mami!
¡Papi!
Come set up by us!
MAMI: Uh-huh, we're good here, Almita.
We don't want our towels to get all wet when the tide comes in.
ALMA: Whaddya think, Junior?
Wanna move over there?
JUNIOR: Nah.
I need water to make a good sandcastle, so I'm gonna stay here.
Wanna help me build my sandcastle?
ALMA: Yes-yes-yes-yes-yesss!
JUNIOR: [gasp] Whoawhoawhoa, Alma!
You can't just start digging like that!
We gotta follow the plan.
JUNIOR: First, we make the castle with... these.
ALMA: Okay!
[♪♪♪] ALMA: Ready, Junior.
JUNIOR: Wait!
JUNIOR: Go ahead, Alma.
Put it right.. here.
ALMA: Whoops.
JUNIOR/ALMA: [laughs] MAMI: [chuckles] [camera clicks] MAMI: Right here!
PAPI: ¡Vengan, niños!
Sunscreen break!
[laughter in distance] ALMA: Junior, wanna go swimming?
JUNIOR: Swimming?!
I can't think about swimming.
There's so much sandcastle left to build!
PAPI: I'll swim with ya.
Last one in is a horseshoe crab!
ALMA/PAPI: [chuckles] [water splashes] ALMA: Oh yeah!
Woo hoo!
[giggles] ALMA: [squeals] ALMA/PAPI: [laughs] [♪♪♪] [camera click] MAMI: Nice!
[crunch] [crunch] [♪♪♪] JUNIOR: Mm-hmm.
[♪♪♪] ALMA: Is it done?
JUNIOR: It's done!
ALMA: Your sandcastle's way, way, waay amazing!
[fanfare] Dun-da- da-dun-da-daaaaa!
JUNIOR: Presenting King Junior's royal sandcastle!
ALMA: Is he good or what?
MAMI: ¡Sonrían!
[camera clicks] MAMI: Everyone in!
[stomach growl] JUNIOR: Huh.. Building made me hungry!
MAMI: Well, let's find something for your tummy!
SQUID GUY: Heads up!
JUNIOR: Ah!
My sandcastle!
SQUID GUY: Sorry about that!
Want me to fix it?
JUNIOR: Nah.
It's okay, Mr. Squid Guy.
I got this.
SQUID GUY: Sorry about that!
Squiddlley-day!
Have fun!
[stomach growl] ALMA: I can fix your castle while you have a snack.
JUNIOR: But what if something happens to it while I'm gone?
ALMA: Never fear, King Junior!
I shall guard your royal castle.
JUNIOR: [chuckles] Thanks, Alma!
Oh, wait... Kneel, please.
JUNIOR: I hereby declare you Alma the Great.
Royal protector of the royal sandcastle.
ALMA: [in fancy voice] I won't let you down, your majesty!
[bike bell] ALMA: One tower, good as new.
ALMA: [in fancy voice] [gasp] Something cometh toward the castle!
Hark!
Who goes there?
ALMA: [in normal voice] Oh.
It's just a seagull.
[seagull squawk] ALMA: [in fancy voice] Wait.
I mean, it's a fierce dragon!
ALMA: [in fancy voice] Stay back, beach dragon!
Thou shall not destroy King Junior's- [seagull squawks fade away] ALMA: [in fancy voice] Alma the Great at your service.
ALMA: [chanting] Guarding the castle.
Guarding the castle.
JUNIOR: Thanks for watching my castle, Alma the Great.
ALMA: [in fancy voice] Wanna help me guard it, King Junior?
JUNIOR: Yes!
ALMA/JUNIOR: [in fancy voices] Guarding the castle.

MAMI: [in fancy voice] The royal photographer is here to take pictures!
[camera clicks] MAMI: [giggles] ALMA: [in fancy voice] King Junior, look out!
A giant spider.
JUNIOR: [chuckling] Woah!
Woahh!!
Wee!
Ohhh- I got it!
MAMI: [in fancy voice] Dámela.
I'll bring the spider to the trash, er, dungeon... right away!
[water lapping] ALMA: [in fancy voice] Hark!
Who goes there?
[water lapping] ALMA: [in normal voice] Oh, it's the ocean.
ALMA: [in fancy voice] That's right, water!
Getteth back from where you came!
ALMA: [in fancy voice] No one dare disturb King Junior's- [in normal voice] Uh oh.
ALMA: Junior!
The water's coming!
Protect the castle!
We need a moat!
JUNIOR: Start digging!
Dig!
Dig, Alma!
ALMA: [squeals] JUNIOR: [effort] [quick breathing] [gasp] JUNIOR: I command you to stay back!
ALMA: [in fancy voice] Ha, huzzah!
The kingdom is saved!
ALMA: [in normal voice] Or.. maybe not.
JUNIOR: We need another plan!
ALMA: Quick, grab the toys, Junior!
JUNIOR: [panicking breathing] ALMA: [gasp] C'mon, C'mon, C'mon ALMA: Ah!
JUNIOR: Oh no!
[water flowing] JUNIOR: AHHH!
JUNIOR: Ooh.. ALMA: Hey, yo!
Get back here with that!
JUNIOR: Ah!
I can't get it!
Hey!
ALMA: Gotcha!
Ah!
[water flowing] JUNIOR: [grunts] Got it!
[grunts] [water flowing] ALMA/JUNIOR: [gasp] JUNIOR: NOOOOOOO!
Hmm.. ALMA: Sorry, Junior.
I don't think there's anything we can do to stop the water.
JUNIOR: We can't save my castle?
[water flowing] JUNIOR: So it's gone forever?
JUNIOR: But, but, but... we worked so hard on it!
JUNIOR: Adiós, sandcastle.
ALMA: See ya later.
ALMA: Wanna play something else?
JUNIOR: No, thanks.
[seagulls squawking] ALMA: Whoa, Junior's really upset.
How can I cheer him up?
I gotta think about this...
JUNIOR: Swimming?!
I can't think about swimming.
There's so much sandcastle left to build!
ALMA: Junior worked so hard on his sandcastle and he loved building it.
ALMA: He really cared about every piece of that castle.
[camera clicks] ALMA: Huh, Mami took so many pictures while Junior was building it.
ALMA: Oh, I know what to do!
MAMI: [kisses Junior] ALMA: How ya doing, Junior?
JUNIOR: I'm sad about my sandcastle.
It was the best one I've ever made.
[sigh] And I'm never gonna see it again.
ALMA: Well... not never.
JUNIOR: Really?
But it's gone.
ALMA: No, it's not!
Mami has it.
JUNIOR: Huh?
ALMA: Mami, can we see the pictures you took of the sandcastle?
MAMI: Sure!
JUNIOR: Aww, look at how little it was back then.
ALMA: [in fancy voice] King Junior you were very brave to face that giant spider.
JUNIOR: Yeah, I was right?
ALMA: You know what's a not-so-bad thing about having your sandcastle wash away?
JUNIOR: What?
ALMA: We get to make another one!
JUNIOR: Oh, yeah!
I still miss my other sandcastle but, this new one is gonna be super duper ginormous!
With two... no three, drawbridges!
ALMA: How about right... here?
MAMI: You know, in a little while the water's gonna wash up there too.
JUNIOR: That's okay.
Just make sure you take lots of pictures.
So I can remember it forever!
PAPI: ¡Espérenme!
I want to help.
Whoa.. MAMI: [chuckles] ¡Si!
Me too!
ALMA: Here we go again!
