- (gasps) Who's that next to you?
- Oh, this is my brother Miles.
- (gasps) You have a brother?
- Yep.
- I know it can be confusing, and I know that our family doesn't look like it used to.
It just means that there's a lot of people who love you and who you get to love.
- Even Miles?
- Even Miles.
- I'm not saying that it's going to happen.
I just think that it could happen, and that is troubling.
- I'm trying to convince Blueberry not to drop out of the kite festival.
- Blueberry, why would you do that?
- Well, self-preservation, that's why.
- Last night, Blueberry had a bad dream.
- I saw my future!
- She had a bad dream!
You're letting a dream scare you out of the kite competition.
- Oh, I just, I just don't think I...
I can't!
I just can't!
Ugh!
Ugh!
Ah!
I'm going to be afraid of kites for the rest of my life?
- Growing up means not letting the things that you're scared of keep you from the things that you want to do.
- The kite festival's next week and I haven't even started my design.
- So you're gonna do it.
- We can't let our fears keep us from doing the things we love, Max.
I gotta fly a kite.
- We can do it together.
- This is gonna be the best festival ever.

(casual music) - This is gonna be the best kite festival.
- They posted them!
They posted them!
- Posted what?
- The rules to the kite flying festival.
They finally posted them at the mess hall.
- (laughs) Oh, Max, you're the only camper I know who gets this excited over rules.
- Rule number one.
Every entered team should be made up of two members.
The anchor.
- (gasps) That's you, right?
I don't wanna get carried away when the kite takes off.
- Right.
- Okay.
- I really doubt that anybody's going to get carried away by their kites, but that makes you the kite runner!
- Me?
The kite runner.
(intense music) What's a kite runner?
- So while I hold onto the string, you run across the field and let the kite go.
- And you don't think I'll be carried away that way?
- Blueberry, I really don't think people getting carried away by their kites is nearly a big a deal as you think.
- That's just the kind of thinking that leads to accidents, Maxine.
- It says that kite entries can made up of any of the classic designs or you can enter a custom piece.
- Oh.
- Which do you think you'll be doing?
- Oh, mine is fully custom.
(Max gasps) Isn't it great?
- Uh, Blueberry?
- Yeah?
- Have you ever made a kite before?
- I have not.
This is my first ever.
Can you believe it?
- No, it's hard to.
(Blueberry chuckles) Oh, it says that people have been designing and building kites since 9000 B.C.
- Wow.
- That's almost 11,000 years ago.
- And mine is its most recent in its rich and storied tradition.
- I really do think we need to do some research on our tried and true designs.
I've never made a kite before either.
- Well, okay, Max.
I mean, mine is great, but if you need the help.
(periscope whirring) (relaxing music) - Hi, this is Max from the clubhouse.
I need some help.
You guys did such a good job on our magical instrument from last summer's jamboree and me and Blueberry were wondering if you could help us build a kite for this summer's festival.
- Oh, tell them it shouldn't fly too well, Max, so it doesn't float anyone off!
- If you close your eyes and think about a kite, what shape do you see?
Most people will see a diamond shape 'cause that's the most common types of kite you see flying.
- If you think of a different shape whenever you imagine kites, that is because kites come in all different shapes and sizes.
The Delta kite actually is a triangle shape and it actually maneuvers really easily compared to other types of shapes.
- Yeah, and there's also box kites like this one, which are pretty big and heavy and they take strong wind to move.
- Your kite frame is gonna need to be strong and light.
Plastic or wooden dowels should work really well.
And historically, kites were made out of paper, but today, we use ripstop nylon, which is strong and it doesn't tear apart easily.
- And don't forget, the tail of a kite is very, very important.
It weighs down the kite on one side, giving you a top and a bottom.
I tried to build a kite and not have a tail on it, and whenever I started to fly it, it flew up, and then since it didn't have a top or a bottom, it just turned straight back down and crashed and broke on the ground.
So as you can see, the tail of the kite is very, very important.
It helps your kite fly way up into the sky.
(amusing strings music) (birds chirping) - Oh, hello.
Robin Repartee here.
I'm a world renowned comedian.
I have been working on my comedy all summer long and these kite jokes are going to soar.
(chuckles) Okay, here we go.
My papa and I were flying a kite and we couldn't decide whether to leave it up or take it down.
And after discussion for nearly an hour, we still couldn't make a decision, so I guess you could say the issue remained up in the air.
(snare drum rolls) (cymbal crashes) You get it?
'Cause the kite was still up in, up in, up in the air.
Oh, oh, wait, hang on.
Did you hear the one about the man who couldn't sleep who started flying kites at night?
They say he stayed up for ages.
(snare drum rolls) (cymbal crashes) Oh, oh.
Oh no, don't go.
Oh no, I've got so many more jokes, like did you hear the one about the kite salesman?
He was offering with no strings attached.
- This kite is definitely better than my first kite.
- Definitely.
I love the tail.
- Oh, thanks!
- What do you think of my kite?
- Oh!
I like the shape.
But do you think it will fly as well as mine?
- I don't know.
That's why we need to go to test them before the festival.
- Do you think we'll have time?
- What's the matter?
- Well, it's just that that's your first kite and I've already built two, so technically I have twice as much kite building experience as you.
- So you want to enter your kite into the festival instead of mine?
- Yeah!
(sad flute music) (casual music) - You know, box kites are just as flyable as regular kites.
- (laughing) Are they, though?
I mean, really?
- What is that supposed to mean?
- I think you know what it means!
(intense music) (goofy music) - What's going on in here?
- We're just trying to decide which kite we'll fly in the festival.
- Wow, both of those kites look great.
- Yeah, but which one is better?
- Oh, I'm no kite expert, but I may know someone who can break a tie.
This is Miles, Max's little brother.
He had a birthday last week and now he's old enough to come to camp.
- Thanks for bringing me to my sister, Camp Counselor Carol.
- You're welcome, Miles.
You guys have fun.
- Hi, Miles!
I'm Blueberry.
I share the clubhouse with Max.
- Hey, Miles.
- So you're Max's little brother.
- So you're Max's camp friend?
- Well, Max has been talking about you all summer.
- I can't believe you raised your very own pet butterfly.
That's so cool!
- Yeah!
Thanks.
Her name is Beauty.
Do you wanna make kites with us?
- Sure.
Whose is this?
This isn't what a kite looks like.
- It's mine, be careful.
- Kites are big and flat.
You built this all wrong.
- Well, that isn't really true.
- This one is good.
This is how kites are supposed to look, Max.
- Well, we were deciding which kite we should fly in the festival.
So you like mine better?
- Obviously.
I really like the color and the shape.
This is a great kite.
I bet it's gonna go higher than any of the other kites at camp.
- This isn't fair.
How come Miles gets to be the tie breaker?
- Well, I really trust a child's intuition.
He seems like he knows a lot about kites.
- We're all children, Blueberry!
(sighs) Do you even know how a kite flies?
- Well, no.
- Miles?
- My brain is not even close to knowing that.
- Well then, we need to get some help on how a kite really works before we go picking which one to use in the festival.
(periscope whirring) (relaxing music) (casual music) - Hello?
Who's there?
- Hi, this is Max and Blueberry- - And Miles.
- From the clubhouse.
- Wow, sounds like the clubhouse is getting crowded.
- Yeah.
We're having trouble figuring out just how kites fly.
- Oh, well, the science of flight is quite an uplifting science.
(gentle music) - Any kite can fly, as long as it's working with forces.
A force is something that will push or pull.
Emerson, can you help us show our friends what we mean?
- Ready to fly.
- Great.
So force number one is lift and that is the air that pushes your kite into the sky.
Force number two is gravity and that pulls your kite back down to the earth.
Force number three is drag, and that's what pulls your kite through the wind.
Force number four is tension and that's you pulling on the string to keep your kite from flying away.
- And all of these work together to make your kite fly.
- When you go to fly your kite, remember to get a running start.
You want the wind to catch your kite so it will fly high in the air.
With all the forces working together, your kite will soar.
- Remember, it doesn't matter if you have a box kite or a diamond kite.
- Or any kite you can imagine.
- As long as you have the forces, you should be ready for liftoff.
(casual music) - [Both] Good luck flying your kite at the festival!
(amusing strings music) (birds chirping) - Oh, hello.
Robin Repartee here.
Back for some more jokes I see.
Well, these ones will certainly blow you away.
(chuckles) So I was walking the other day and I dropped $10 and the wind caught it.
I had to chase it down the road.
I never caught it, but I got a good run for my money.
(snare drum rolls) (cymbal crashes) You get it, 'cause I was running with the money, and it's, it's still gone.
I didn't get the $10 back.
Oh, wait, hang on, no no, I have one more.
Hang on.
What day of the week has the most powerful breezes?
Windsday.
(snare drum rolls) (cymbal crashes) You get it, 'cause winds, wind, like blow, like (whooshes).
Wait, no, no.
One last one, one last one.
This one's going to bring the house down.
I know it this time.
Hang on, here we go.
So how does the wind get fit and healthy?
With air conditioning.
(snare drum rolls) (cymbal crashes) Air condition, air conditioning?
You get it?
Because you, you, you're conditioning with the, oh no.
Oh well, I guess there's always next summer.
I hope that the rest of your year is as light as air.
(chuckles) Bye-bye.
(air whooshes) - Well, now that we know both kites could fly, how do we decide which one will fly?
I still think it should be mine.
- Me too.
- I still think we should test them before the festival.
- Oh, I don't think we have enough time.
- Testing.
One, two, three!
- Wait, wait!
- No, wait!
(kite crashes) - Oh no!
- Miles, you broke it.
(Blueberry gasps) You ruined my kite!
- I'm sorry.
I didn't mean to.
- Didn't mean to?
You threw it!
- I was testing it.
Can we tape it or glue it back together?
- No!
I wish you'd never come to camp!
(Blueberry gasps) (despairing piano music) - I'm really sorry about your kite, Max.
- Miles is always taking my things and then he just goes and breaks them so neither of us can play with them.
I guess that means we're flying your kite at the festival.
- Oh, that doesn't matter.
Why do you think Miles wants to play with your things?
- 'Cause all his stuff is already broken probably.
- Well, I don't think that's it.
Do you remember your first day of camp?
You were so afraid of the canoe that you flipped the canoe you and Todd were in.
- Todd just laughed and helped me flip it over.
- Just 'cause you messed up one canoe trip didn't ruin the whole day.
I don't like it when you and I fight, Max, and we've never fought like that before.
And Miles is your real life brother, your family.
I would never wanna fight with my brother.
(despairing piano music continues) (Miles crying) - Hey, Miles.
I'm sorry I got mad at you.
I know you didn't mean to break the kite.
- I really did want to see if it would fly.
- I'm sure Blueberry's kite will do really good in the festival.
- This kite still needs a string.
- Oh!
(eerie music) (dogs growling) (Blueberry grunting) - Time for the festival!
Who's high flying homemade kite is gonna make an appearance?
- Me!
Oh no!
Ah, ah!
Whoa!
- Blueberry!
- [Both] Blueberry!
(anxious music) - I think it's definitely sprained.
No kite festival for you.
- Even after I overcame my fear?
- Well, fear or no fear, there's no running kites for you today.
- Does this mean we can't enter into the festival?
- Max!
It just means that we can't enter.
- Would you like to be my kite runner?
- Kite runner!
- We'll fly it high for you, Blueberry.
Watch us out the window!
- You gonna be okay?
- I'll be fine.
(bright music) (gasps) Wow!

- And the anchors and the teams and the kite runners, they all did such a good job.
- I think you guys did great.
- And did you see how Miles ran the kite out and let it go at just the right time?
- Mm-hmm.
- I think Miles was the best part of the festival.
- You thought I was the best part?
- Well, yeah.
I think you did a great job.
- I knew if you could stop fighting about your differences for just a little while, you might realize how much fun you both are.
I wish it could've been a three person team.
- Were you not watching out the window, Blueberry?
- Oh well, of course I was!
I've never seen you smile so big, Max!
- But didn't you see the kite?
- Oh, I guess not.
- You were watching us?
Nobody comes to a kite festival to watch the people.
- Oh, where are you going, Miles?
(Blueberry gasps) Wow!
Oh, this is beautiful!
Is that my face?
- See, Blueberry?
