(engine revving) Blossom, get out the toaster.

For extra crunch, we'll toast a bunch of bread.

Hey, guys... just an update.

We are waiting on the toast now, but soon the extra-amazing sandwiches you ordered will be heading to your party.

Wait, did you say you were toasting the bread?

Finger sandwiches are almost never toasted.

They're supposed to be soft.

Oh?

(chuckles) That's not a problem.

We will... we'll fix that right away.

Blossom, you didn't toast all our bread, did you?

Okay, well, not a problem.

We'll just untoast the toast.

Blossom, get out the untoaster.

I know that look.

Okay, no such thing.

Well, then, we'll just have to untoast it by hand.

You know, like how they untoasted back in ye olden days.

(chuckles) There's that look again.

Okay, well, what's the difference between toast and regular bread anyway?

Can't be much.

Blossom, could you take some notes?

Maybe we can figure out how to untoast bread by listing the differences.

All right, let's see what we got here.

According to my scientific observation, untoasted bread is soft, and toast is crumbly.

Bread is floppy, toast is rigid.

Looks like toasting turned it from white to brown, and temperature-- the toast is definitely warmer.

Wait-- it's warmer!

Blossom, if warming the bread turned it into toast, then we just need to do the opposite to untoast it.

When I made popsicles in the previous episode that I'm sure everybody watched-- right, guys?-- the popsicles melted when they got warm.

But when I put liquid in the freezer, it froze.

Maybe it's the same with toast.

Quick, Chet, get all this toast into the freezer.

My untoast is ready.

I don't get it.

It's cold instead of warm, but it's still toast.

It's rigid, it's brown, and it's as crumbly as... (crashing) ...as dirt.

I... wait.

That's it!

Blossom, when mud dries out in the hot sun, it turns to dirt.

But to make it mud again, you don't cool it-- you just need to add water and mix.

Maybe it's the same with toast.

Chet, quick-- hose down all our toast.

Hey, guys.

Just letting you know we've totally got your sandwiches under control.

Chet's hosing them down right now.

You know, to untoast the toast.

Because you said toast... the sandwiches aren't... (screaming) This is all just glop!

Ruff, you can't untoast toast.

You can turn water into ice and ice back into water.

You can turn mud into dirt and dirt into mud.

But toasting bread cannot be undone.

Oh.

So when it comes to heating and cooling and mixing, some changes can be undone, but others can't, like untoasting toast.

Ruff, when you cook something, you change it so it can't go back to the way it was before.

Hold on, Ruff.

RUFF: Okay, what's she doing?

This egg is hard-boiled.

We cooked this egg, and there's no way we could uncook it.

See, it's all solid.

RUFF: That's looking solid, all right.

This is a raw egg.

We didn't cook this one.

RUFF: Okay, cracking the raw egg, very difficult with paws.

GIRL: There's no way that we can get this cooked egg runny again, like the raw egg.

RUFF: Got it.

I did it!

I figured out what you wanted was finger puppet sandwiches.

See, I even made one of you, brother.

"Hi, I'm Ruff Ruffman, the sandwich version."

(laughing) That sounded nothing like me.

Well, it's not exactly what we were looking for.

But since it's better than Ruff's glop, Scruff is the winner of this round.

RUFF: Oh, man!
