THE BRIGHT GAS GIANT JUPITER HAS BEEN SHINING FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS, BUT IT S BEEN IN RETROGRADE, THAT ENDS THIS WEEK!
FIRST WE NEED TO FIND JUPITER, SO HIT THE SKIES ANY-TIME AT OR AFTER SUNSET AND LOOK SOUTH.
YOU LL SEE A VERY BRIGHT SPOT.
RETROGRADE MOTION IS AN ILLUSION.
ALL PLANETS IN OUR SYSTEM GO IN THE SAME DIRECTION AROUND THE SUN, AND NONE ACTUALLY CHANGE DIRECTIONS, BUT THEY DO APPEAR TO CHANGE BECAUSE OF OUR RELA-TIVE ORBITAL SPEEDS.
JUPITER APPEARS TO GO RETRO-GRADE FOR ABOUT 120 DAYS A YEAR.
IT S LIKE PASSING A SLOWER CAR ON A RACETRACK.
IF YOU RE GOING FASTER, THE OTHER CAR COMES CLOSER, THAN APPEARS TO REVERSE DIRECTION.
ORBITS ARE SIM-ILAR!
WATCH A PLANET EVERY NIGHT AND IF IT APPEARS TO MOVE WEST, IT S IN RETROGRADE MOTION.
NOTHING BAD WILL HAPPEN TO YOU BECAUSE OF THIS, BUT YOU MIGHT LEARN SOMETHING!
KEEP LOOKIN UP!
