- Once I built a railroad, I made it wrong, made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad, now it's done.
- I lived in a company house - Brother - In a 9,000 block of Hampton Boulevard, which belonged to the railroad company.
My dad was a employee of the railroad and living not far from the railroad property, the roundhouse, and going over there at times to purchase things at the company store.
I saw a lot of steam engines that came in off the main line and worked in the yard.
I remember my father getting furloughed.
In fact, where we lived on 90th street was an open coal storage for coal.
And when they decided that the coal they had in cars wasn't being marketed, they would unload that coal valve.
And during the depression, during the time he was furloughed, he was hired to loaded up, unloaded in that type job.
