Someone is trying to do in a bank manager who's about to travel to New York with a million dollars in Liberty Bonds. With the manager out of commission, the task of safeguarding the money falls to a young assistant. The bank asks Poirot to go along, and the young man's fiancee, a bank secretary who's worried that he's in financial trouble, asks Poirot to ensure his safety.
