THIS WEEK WE LL SEE A BEAUTIFUL FULL BLUE MOON, AND EVEN THOUGH YOU SEE ME STANDING ALONE IN REALITY THE MOON IS NORMAL COLOR, WE JUST MADE IT BLUE FOR TV -- SO WHY DO WE CALL IT BLUE?
THE TERM BLUE MOON HAS TWO DEFINITIONS!
TODAY IT MEANS THE SECOND FULL MOON IN A CALENDAR MONTH, BUT HISTORICALLY IT MEANT THE THIRD OF FOUR FULL MOONS IN A SINGLE SEASON.
BOTH DEFINITIONS ARE USED TODAY, AND THIS IS THE LATTER -- A SEASONAL.
BLUE.
MOON.
WITHOUT GETTING TOO TECHNICAL, THIS HAPPENS BECAUSE CELESTIAL ORBITS DON T PERFECTLY ALIGN.
SO WE HAVE THIRTEEN FULL MOONS BETWEEN THE 2020 AND 2021 DECEMBER SOLSTICES.
HIT THE DARKNESS AROUND NINE THIRTY PM FOR MOONRISE AND YOU LL SEE THE MOON CHASING JUPITER ACROSS THE SOUTHEASTERN SKY.
IT MAY LOOK THE SAME, BUT IT SHOULD FEEL DIFFERENT BECAUSE WE WON T SEE ANOTHER SEASONAL BLUE MOON UNTIL 2048!
KEEP LOOKIN UP!
