>> A BLACKOUT.
IT WAS DARK.
THE CAT IN THE HAT WAS THERE.
ALL WERE IN BLACK, SOME EVEN IN SUNGLASSES.
BUT THE MISSION STILL ENDED IN DOOM.
NOT A GOOD THEATRICAL REVIEW.
DYLAN RAIOLA BROKE A LEG.
LITERALLY.
THE FANS WITNESSED YET ANOTHER CLOSE HUSKER LOSS.
THE 29TH STRAIGHT DEFEAT AGAINST A RANKED OPPONENT IN ANY HOPE OF THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF SAILED AWAY WITH SPECIAL BLACK BALLOONS.
BIG RED WRAP-UP.
COMING UP NEXT.
[MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] HI EVERYONE.
I'M MIKE'L SEVERE.
WELCOME TO BIG RED WRAP-UP ON NEBRASKA PUBLIC MEDIA.
NOT HOW WE HOPED THE BLACKOUT WOULD END UP.
WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU ABOUT IT.
YOU CAN CONNECT WITH US ON FACEBOOK AND X AND OUR BIG RED WRAP-UP PAGE.
ALL YOUR QUESTIONS.
YOU CAN ALSO EMAIL OR TEXT US AT NEBRASKA PUBLIC MEDIA.
OUR PHONES ARE ALSO STANDING BY READY TO TAKE YOUR CALLS.
AT THE END OF THE SHOW, WE'LL ANSWER AS MANY OF YOUR QUESTIONS AS TIME PERMITS.
NOW, TIME FOR OUR SIDELINE SURVEYS.
LAST WEEK WE ASKED OHIO STATE, INDIANA AND OREGON CLOSE TO LOCKS FOR THE CFP, WHO'S MOST LIKELY TO BE THE FOURTH TEAM TO MAKE IT FROM THE BIG TEN.
NEBRASKA GOT 33% AND IOWA GOT 18, MICHIGAN 21, USC 21 AND WASHINGTON 7%.
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION WITHOUT DYLAN RAIOLA, HOW MANY GAMES WILL THE HUSKERS WIN THE REST OF THE SEASON?
RIGHT NOW, 43% SAY NONE, 1% SAY 48, ONE SAYS 48, AND THEN TWO IS 8%.
SO JOINED NOW BY FORMER HUSKERS JAY MOORE AND DAMON BENNING, I'M ASSUMING NEITHER ONE OF US FEEL THAT IT'S GOING TO BE 0 OR 1.
BUT YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT GAME IN THE BLACKOUT?
>> YEAH, I TELL YOU WHAT, WHEN THE ENERGY WAS ELECTRIC, I LOVED THE LOOK OF IT.
THE BLACK UNIFORMS, THE BLACK, BLACK END ZONES, BLACK.
AND I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.
I KNOW WE'RE CATCHING SOME GRIEF BECAUSE THE BACK END BLACK COMING OUT, I KNOW WITH IOWA PLAYING IT, BUT I. I'M ALL FOR THAT ONE GAME SCENARIO YEAR.
WE HAVE THE BLACK.
I LOVED IT I THOUGHT THE EFFORT WAS GREAT.
THE GAME PLAN WAS WAS REALLY, REALLY GOOD.
BUT HONESTLY IT COMES DOWN TO WAS JUST DYLAN GETTING HURT.
I THINK IF HE'S HEALTHY, NEBRASKA WINS THAT GAME AND UNFORTUNATELY THAT'S NOT THE CASE.
IT'S HARD TO PUT A YOUNG QUARTERBACK, A FRESHMAN QUARTERBACK, EVEN THOUGH HE HAS PLAYED SOME TIME GOING IN IN THE SECOND HALF.
WHEN YOU'RE UP BY 4050 POINTS AGAINST AKRON, HOUSTON CHRISTIAN IS VASTLY DIFFERENT THAN PLAYING A REALLY GOOD USC TEAM AT NIGHT WHEN WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE VERY, VERY BRIGHT.
I THOUGHT THE DEFENSE, EVEN THOUGH THE RUN, THE RUN, STOPPING THE RUN WASN'T AS GOOD AS IT NEEDED TO BE.
BUT AGAIN, THEY GOT THE NECESSARY STOPS.
THAT WAS MY BIGGEST CONCERN WAS CAN THE DEFENSE CREATE ENOUGH STOPS TO GET TO GET THE BALL BACK TO THE OFFENSE?
AND THEY DID THAT OFFENSE 21 POINTS, BUT JUST NOT ENOUGH WEAPONS.
NOT WEAPONS, BUT JUST WITH TJ LATEEF GOING IN OFFENSIVELY, YOU'RE JUST NOT ABLE TO CAPITALIZE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN WHEN DEALING FROM THE PLAYBOOK.
VASTLY DIFFERENT HEADING INTO THIS WEEK.
NOW HE KNOWS HE'S GONNA BE THE STARTER, BUT THAT'S WHERE IT COMES DOWN TO JUST A FRESHMAN THAT DIDN'T GET A TON OF REPS, AND YOU WERE PROTECTING HIM WITH WITH THE PLAY CALLS IN THE SECOND HALF.
>> YOU GET TO MORE OF THE BREAKDOWN, BUT JUST THE ATMOSPHERE.
YOU'VE BEEN IN A LOT OF GAMES THERE.
WHAT WAS THE FEEL LIKE OF THE GAME?
>> YEAH, FOR ME IT WAS ELECTRIC.
IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I HAD GOOSEBUMPS LIKE THAT WHERE I COULD FEEL THE EXCITEMENT.
I THINK, YOU KNOW, SEEING T PHRASE FOR THE COIN TOSS AND HAVING AARON TAYLOR OUT THERE AND A LOT OF THE GUYS, JUST THE CROWD, THE STUDENT SECTION THERE SO EARLY.
YEP.
BLACKED OUT WAS SENSATIONAL.
SO I FELT LIKE FROM AN ENVIRONMENTAL STANDPOINT, IT WAS ELECTRIC.
AND THERE WERE TIMES WHERE I FELT LIKE NEBRASKA REALLY PLAYED THEIR BEST BALL.
SO I MEAN, IT'S LIKE JAY SAID, RIGHT?
YOU YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR QUARTERBACK HEALTHY.
AND I THINK FOR NEBRASKA, THERE'S LOTS OF THOUGHTS AND AND NARRATIVES AND COMMENTARIES ON HOW NEBRASKA PLAYS DEFENSE.
AND I THINK THAT'S NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO ONE OF MY MAIN CONCERNS.
YOU CAN'T STOP IT ALL.
YOU KNOW, LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME, WE WERE WHINING ABOUT GUYS TOO FAR OFF AND THEY WERE THROWING BALLS OVER OUR HEADS AND WE WERE GIVING UP THIRD AND LONG.
SO, YOU KNOW, USC HAD 61 SNAPS.
THEY WERE HELD TO THEIR RUSHING AVERAGE THAT RUN GAME IS FANTASTIC FROM CAP FROM COUNTER TO GAP TO TO CUTTING BACK.
PLAYSIDE AND LISTEN 61 SNAPS AND 21 POINTS.
THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH TO WIN THAT FOOTBALL GAME.
SO WE CAN HAND RING AND HAVE A LOT OF CONSTERNATION OVER STATS, BUT IT IS ABOUT POINTS.
AND THEY KEPT UCLA, USC WAY DOWN.
AND IF YOU TOLD ME THE GAME STYLISTICALLY WAS GOING TO BE PLAYED LIKE THAT, I'D TELL YOU NEBRASKA WON THE GAME.
SO YEAH, THERE'S PLENTY TO BUILD ON AS THEY HEAD TO PASADENA.
>> YEAH.
AND YOU'VE GOT LINCOLN RILEY, THE OFFENSE THAT HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL EVERYWHERE HE'S BEEN.
AND THAT WAS THE SECOND LOWEST COMPLETION RATE.
AND THAT WAS THE SECOND LOWEST AMOUNT OF YARDS A QUARTERBACK OF HIS HEAD.
THAT JUST SHOWS YOU HOW GOOD THEY WERE.
>> YEAH THEY WERE THE SECONDARY HAS BEEN FANTASTIC.
AND LIKE DB SAID.
>> AND PASS RUSH THEY.
>> GOT TO HIM.
YEAH THEY DID.
>> ESPECIALLY WITHOUT RUN ACTION.
>> YEAH YEAH.
BUT YOU LOOK AT WHAT THEY'RE ABLE TO DO.
AND AGAIN YOU GOT TO PICK AND CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES.
WHEN NEBRASKA IS VERY, VERY YOUNG UP FRONT AND INEXPERIENCED.
AND THE STRENGTH OF THIS TEAM AND THE MOST EXPERIENCED IS IN THE SECONDARY.
YEAH.
YOU GOT TO YOU GOT TO KIND OF PICK AND CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES.
I MEAN THEY WERE THEY WERE RIGHT THERE.
NOT A LOT OF YARDAGE, NOT A LOT OF YARDS AFTER CATCH GUYS WERE IN THE FACE.
I MEAN ANDREW MARSHALL ALL THESE PLAYS MARSHALL CEYAIR WRIGHT WAS FANTASTIC.
HOLDING ON TO TWO CATCHES FOR THE FOR THE KNIGHTS I MEAN THAT'S JUST I MEAN I THINK THAT LAST TIME WAS PROBABLY LAST YEAR WHEN THEY PLAYED NEBRASKA AS WELL.
SO BUT YEAH, THEY DID ENOUGH DEFENSIVELY 100%.
THEY DID ENOUGH.
AND IT JUST COMES DOWN TO OFFENSE.
AND JUST WHAT HAPPENED THE SECOND HALF WITH INJURIES AND BUT NO I LOVE WHERE THIS DEFENSE IS AT OTHER THAN THE END GAME RESULT THE WIN OR LOSS, I THOUGHT THEY EXECUTED AT A VERY, VERY HIGH LEVEL.
I LOVE THE ENERGY.
I LOVE THE PASSION.
I LOVE THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL.
THERE'S SOME THINGS, OBVIOUSLY YOU CAN CLEAN UP IN THERE.
YOU'RE GONNA HAVE THAT EVERY GAME.
BUT OVERALL THEY DID ENOUGH TO WIN THIS FOOTBALL GAME.
JUST AGAIN COMES BACK TO THAT THAT INJURY TO TO DYLAN IN THE SECOND HALF.
>> THERE'S SO MANY PARTS OF WHAT THE DEFENSE DID THAT I DON'T THINK WE DON'T TALK ENOUGH ABOUT IT.
WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ON THE RADIO ABOUT HOW THEY ONLY GIVE.
THEY ONLY HAD LIKE NINE TOTAL THREE AND OUTS.
THEY SCORED IN THE FIRST DRIVE LIKE 3 OR 4 GAMES IN A ROW TO STOP THEM TWO, THREE AND OUTS EARLY IN THE GAME.
AND THEN THE.
>> ONE TEAM IN THE COUNTRY WITH THE EXPECTED DRIVE, YOUR EXPECTED DRIVE YARDS ON THEIR DRIVE, RIGHT, LIKE THEY MOVE THE FOOTBALL.
AND SO I THINK, YOU KNOW NEBRASKA'S IT'S A FINE LINE BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO GET A LITTLE BACK PATTING IN HOUSE BECAUSE THOSE COACHES UNDERSTAND THE JOB THEY DID.
RIGHT.
THOSE THAT KNOW KNOW.
AND BUT YOU STILL DIDN'T WIN.
SO YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG GUYS THAT ARE STILL TRYING TO DEVELOP EMOTIONALLY, THEY GOT TO BE THINKING, OKAY, WE SOME OF US PLAYED OUR BEST BALL, BUT IT'S NOT ENOUGH.
WE'VE GOT TO DO BETTER.
AND I THINK WHEN YOU'RE TAKING YOUR NUMBER TWO QUARTERBACK ON THE ROAD, THAT MIGHT BE JUST A CALIBRATING AND FOCUS.
THEY NEED TO READ DIAL BECAUSE THEY GOT TO DOUBLE DOWN ON THE PROCESS.
>> YEAH.
GOING GOING IN MOVING TO THE OFFENSE AND AND TJ LATEEF COMING IN.
AND WE OBVIOUSLY KNOW WHAT HE DOES REALLY WELL RIGHT I THINK HE'S A VERY ACCURATE GUY.
HE'S A HEADY QUARTERBACK BASED ON WHAT I SAW IN HIGH SCHOOL.
AND HE CAN MOVE.
YOU FEEL THAT IT ALMOST SETS.
YOU WANT TO LOSE DYLAN, BUT SETS UP PRETTY WELL AGAINST A TEAM LIKE UCLA DOES.
GIVE UP A LOT OF YARDS TO QUARTERBACKS RUNNING.
>> YEAH, I'M EXCITED TO SEE WHAT THIS GAME PLAN IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE.
YOU GO AS A BACKUP QUARTERBACK AND YOU KNOW DYLAN'S THE MAN.
YOU'RE TAILOR MAKING THE GAME PLAN ABOUT WHAT HE DOES BEST.
YOU KNOW EVEN THOUGH DYLAN DID KEEP A FEW TIMES ON SOME ON SOME INSIDE ZONES, YOU KNOW, THAT WAS BUT THAT'S NOT A NORMAL THAT'S YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE MORE OF THAT WITH TJ, RIGHT.
HE'S MAYBE GOT 4050 SNAPS THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.
HE'S GOING TO GET 300 PLUS.
YEAH MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.
IT'S MENTALLY IT'S VASTLY DIFFERENT KNOWING YOU ARE THE STARTER GOING IN.
SO IN THIS GAME PLAN IS GOING TO LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT.
THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE THE RPOS THAT WE'VE SEEN MORE OF THOSE.
YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE THE RUN GAME WITH HIM AND UTILIZE HIM.
AND JUST THIS IS ABILITY TO STEP UP IN THE POCKET AND UTILIZE THE ATTRIBUTES THAT HE HAS WITH HIS WITH HIS LEGS IS GOING TO BE IS GOING TO BE BIG TIME I THINK WHEN WITH AN OFFENSIVE LINE WHO DOES STRUGGLE TO PROTECT AT TIMES.
BUT I'M EXCITED TO SEE JUST WHAT HOLGORSEN THIS WHOLE WEEK WITH WITH WHAT HE KNOWS TJ CAN DO.
IT'S GOING TO BE FUN TO SEE.
AND ON TOP OF THAT, WHEN THE WAY EMMETT'S BEEN RUNNING THE FOOTBALL TOO, I MEAN THAT'S A HECK OF A, YOU KNOW, A FOUNDATION TO BUILD OFF OF WITH A YOUNG QUARTERBACK AND RUNNING GAME LIKE THAT AGAINST A DEFENSE WHO DOES STRUGGLE STOPPING THE RUN.
>> COACH HOLGORSEN WAS ASKED A QUESTION ABOUT BARNEY.
HE TALKED ABOUT THE PROGRESSION.
YOU'RE GOING TO SEE MORE PROGRESSION BECAUSE OF THE MOBILITY OF TJ LATEEF, RIGHT?
A CHANCE TO GET TO THE THIRD OR FOURTH RECEIVER?
>> YEAH, ABSOLUTELY.
AND I THINK, YOU KNOW, YOU'VE GOT TO TRIPLE IN PLAY NOW WITH THE RUN THREAT WITH THE ADDITION TO THE RPO.
AND IT'S REALLY, REALLY TOUGH TO STOP.
I SPENT A LOT OF TIME TRYING TO STOP TEAMS DEFENSIVELY.
AND I KNOW WHEN QUARTERBACKS CAN GIVE YOU YOU KNOW THAT RUN ACTION.
YOU KNOW SECOND LEADING RUSHER.
AND A GUY LIKE EMMETT YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL RIGHT.
BECAUSE THERE'S SOME GIVE AND TAKE THERE.
YOU KNOW BARNEY IS ELECTRIC AND HE'S A GUY.
YOU WANT TO GET THE BALL TO.
THE GUY YOU WANT TO GET THE BALL TO.
BUT FOR FOR ALL THE SPREADING OUT YOU DO OF THE FOOTBALL, THAT MEANS EMMETT'S NOT GETTING HIS TOUCHES.
SO I THINK YOU GOT TO GO BACK TO SOMETHING COACH RUSSELL SAID A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, WHERE HE SAID THEY NEED TO FIGURE OUT WHO THEY NEED TO BE VERSUS WHO THEY'RE CAPABLE OF BEING, YOU KNOW, WITH WHO THEY WANT TO BE.
SO I'M FASCINATED BY THE GAME PLAN, BUT I DO LOVE THAT.
I THINK WITH COACH HOLGORSEN AND COACH THOMAS AND IN THAT BUNCH ON THE OFFENSIVE SIDE OF THE BALL, YOU HAVE TRUE TRIPLE NOW IN PLAY WITH YOUR ZONE.
READ GAME OUT OF THE GUN.
>> DO YOU THINK SO?
SINCE THE FIRST THREE GAMES THEY'VE BEEN IN CONFERENCE PLAY THEY HAVEN'T HAD MORE THAN 61 SNAPS IN A GAME.
DO YOU THINK YOU'LL SEE MORE SNAPS FROM NEBRASKA IN THIS GAME BECAUSE OF THE OFFENSIVELY?
YEAH.
>> POTENTIALLY.
JUST EVERY GAME IS SO VASTLY DIFFERENT HOW THE WHOLE THING PLAYS OUT.
SURE.
I TELL YOU WHAT, IF THE DEFENSE HANDLES THEIR BUSINESS NIKOS A HECK OF A QUARTERBACK.
HE'S HE'S VERY ATHLETIC BACK THERE AS WELL.
THEY HAVE TO BE ON THEIR P'S AND Q'S, STOPPING HIM, KEEPING HIM IN THE POCKET AND LIMIT HIS HIS RUN GAME AS WELL.
BUT I TELL YOU WHAT, THIS DEFENSE COMES OUT AND PLAYS WITH THAT SAME ENERGY AND PASSION THAT THEY HAD ON SATURDAY NIGHT.
YES, I THINK THE OFFENSE CAN GET MORE SNAPS.
THE DEFENSE WILL CREATE MORE THREE AND OUTS AND GET THIS BALL BACK AND HOW GOOD THE SPECIAL TEAMS CAN BE AS WELL.
YOU CAN UTILIZE THAT TO TO GET THAT BALL BACK IN THE OFFENSIVE HANDS IN A BETTER SCENARIO AS WELL, NOT BEING BACKED UP.
SO YEAH, I THINK THEY CAN GET 60.
THAT'S CRAZY.
YOU KNOW 61 PLAYS.
I REMEMBER GAMES WE PLAYED.
YOU GUYS PLAYED 80 AND 90, 80 AND 90 SNAPS.
>> YEAH.
AND THAT'S COMING OFF A GAME IN WHICH THEY ONLY HAD 61.
>> YEAH.
>> SO YEAH 21ST DOWNS A PIECE.
SO IT'S TOUGH.
>> IT WAS EVEN.
YEAH.
IT WAS AN EVEN GAME.
>> YES.
YES THEY CAN BUT THEY EVERY GAME IS DIFFERENT AND IT LENDS TO DIFFERENT SCENARIOS.
>> I THOUGHT WAS MORE EXPLOSIVE PLAYS WITH TJ IN THERE.
I THINK NEBRASKA HAD NOT HAD A LOT OF PLAYS THAT HAVE BEEN EXPLOSIVE OVER THE LAST 3 OR 4 WEEKS.
WHEN THEY HAVE HAD ONE.
IT'S USUALLY WHEN DYLAN HAS GOTTEN OUT OF THE POCKET AND HIT A LINDENMEYER DOWN THE FIELD OR SOMETHING.
I COULD SEE MORE OF THAT HAPPENING THIS WEEK.
>> YEAH, ABSOLUTELY.
AND I THINK PRIMARILY BECAUSE WE'LL SEE HOW UCLA PLAYS IT.
I THINK THEY COMMIT ANOTHER SET OF EYES IN THE BOX.
>> OH YEAH.
>> WHICH OPENS UP THINGS VERTICALLY.
SO IT'S NOT IT GOES HAND IN HAND.
ONE LESS ONE LESS SET OF EYES THAT'S ACCOUNTABLE TO ROAM THE SECONDARY VERSUS LOOKING IN THE BACKFIELD WILL OPEN UP OPPORTUNITIES ON THE OUTSIDE.
I THINK THE KEY FOR NEBRASKA IS TO PLAY WITH GOOD RHYTHM, WHATEVER THAT IS, IN TERMS OF TEMPO AND PACE WILL DICTATE THE CHUNK ABILITY OR THE PLAY.
THE BIG PLAY ABILITY THAT I THINK WILL PRESENT ITSELF.
>> THE DEAL WITH HAVING TO HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE PLAYING LEFT AND RIGHT TACKLE AND LOSING GUYS, I THINK YOU HAVE TO GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR THE WAY THEY PLAYED.
EVEN AFTER PRITCHARD WENT OUT, IT WAS ONE SACK.
IT WAS ONLY ABOUT FOUR PRESSURES AND USC WAS TRYING TO SEND GUYS.
NOW, EVEN ON THE SACK THAT CAUSED THE INJURY.
IT WAS A DELAYED BLITZ.
BUT I MEAN, THEY TRIED AND THEY REALLY COULDN'T GET I DON'T KNOW IF WE GIVE ENOUGH CREDIT TO THE OFFENSIVE LINE.
>> AGAIN, I THOUGHT EVERYTHING IN GENERAL WAS WAS MUCH IMPROVED.
LIKE I SAID, OTHER THAN THE RESULT, I MEAN, GOD DANG, THAT WAS THEY DID THE NECESSARY THINGS.
THAT INJURY JUST JUST SETS YOU BACK HEAVILY IN A GAME LIKE THIS.
BUT YEAH PRITCHARD COME OUT COMES IN YOU YOU SWITCH SIDES SWITCH SIDES.
YOU SEND CORCORAN OVER TO THE RIGHT.
IT'S JUST AND THAT'S YOU GOT TO GIVE YOUR TIP OF THE CAP THOUGH TOO TO COACHING THERE AS WELL TO HAVE THAT ABILITY TO PLAY MULTIPLE POSITIONS.
WE SAY ADD MORE TOOLS TO YOUR TOOLBOX.
THESE THESE PLAYERS HAVE THAT ABILITY TO DO THAT.
SOUNDS LIKE PRITCHETT IS GOING TO BE BACK THIS WEEK.
PRACTICE AS WELL.
SO THAT'S GONNA BE BIG FOR THIS OFFENSE OFFENSIVE LINE.
BUT YEAH THE RUN BLOCKING HAS BEEN MUCH IMPROVED.
BUT A GAME WHERE USC IS AN AGGRESSIVE DEFENSE, THEY HELD UP THEIR OWN AGAINST AGAINST A VERY ATHLETIC DEFENSE.
>> AS THE SHOW IS GOING ON.
AND WE'RE SHOWING HIGHLIGHTS OF EMMETT JOHNSON RUNNING.
WATCH HOW MANY TIMES YOU SEE PRITCHETT YOU SEE EVANS, YOU SEE THOSE GUYS DOWN THE FIELD.
THEY'RE LEAVING THE FIRST LEVEL.
THEY'RE GETTING THE SECOND LEVEL A LOT, AND THAT SHOWS YOU THAT WHAT THEY WERE DOING, EVEN ON A HIGHLIGHT LIKE THIS, THAT'S MAKING SURE THAT HE MADE AN INCREDIBLE PLAY RIGHT THERE.
BUT THERE WAS A MAN A HAT ON A. HAT ON THAT BLOCK.
>> THAT'S A RUNNING BACK.
THAT'S REALLY ALL YOU CAN ASK FOR.
TO LOOK AT THE SURGE THERE CREATES A NICE LITTLE CUTBACK LANE AND HE CAN HE CAN AFFORD TO GET DOWNHILL.
AND I THINK FOR AS AS MALIGNED AS IT IS WHEN TACKLES GET BEAT ON THE EDGES WITH WITH SPEED RUSHERS.
YEAH WE WE HAVE OUR MIND MADE UP ON WHAT'S ACTUALLY GOING ON UP FRONT.
THEY'RE PLAYING.
THEY PLAYED EIGHT GUYS NINE GUYS.
AND I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS.
AT SOME POINT YOU HAVE TO TALK ABOUT DEVELOPMENT.
YEAH THAT'S THAT'S A NICE HOLE TO RUN.
>> YEAH YEAH.
>> GIVE DONNY RAIOLA A LITTLE BIT OF CREDIT FOR WHAT HE'S DOING.
BUT HERE'S ANOTHER THING.
I REALLY BELIEVE THERE WAS A SUNDAY EARLY MORNING WHERE USC DEFENSIVE ENDS WERE JUST WAKING UP GOING 48, 44, 48.
THEY JUST KEPT GETTING BANGED EVERY TIME THEY CAME ACROSS.
IT WAS SOME.
>> DUO WHAM!
IT'S TOUGH AND THEY'RE REALLY STARTING TO GET THE THE FEEL FOR WHEN TO COME OFF ON THE DOUBLE.
HOW TO INSERT NOW MY MAN ECHTERNACH.
I'VE KNOWN HIM FOREVER.
YEAH.
HE'S GOT A LITTLE LEANING TOWER OF PISA.
AS HE GETS TO THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE.
HE'S GOT TO BE CAREFUL.
YEAH, BUT HE LOWERS BOOM.
AND THEN YOU GET A CHANCE FOR LINDENMEYER AND HOPEFULLY HARBURG TO BE BETTER, MORE PASS CATCHERS.
THE BEST WAY TO HELP OUT A YOUNG QUARTERBACK IS THE INTERMEDIATE PASSING GAME.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO UTILIZE HASH TO HASH WITH THESE GOOD TARGETS.
>> YEAH THOSE GUYS, BOTH THOSE TIGHT ENDS CAN CAMP DOWN IN THE MIDDLE AND PUT UP A TENT AND LIGHT A FIRE.
THEY WERE SO OPEN THE OTHER DAY.
LET'S GO TO THE HIGHLIGHTS.
IT WAS ABOUT THE BLACKOUT GOING INTO SATURDAY NIGHT.
IT WAS AN INCREDIBLE ATMOSPHERE.
AS DAMON SAID, IT WAS INCREDIBLY ELECTRIC.
YOU GET GOOSEBUMPS FROM A NIGHT LIKE THAT.
DIDN'T WORK OUT AT THE END, BUT MAN, I THINK THEY'LL DO THIS AGAIN FOR SURE BASED OFF WHAT THEY DID THERE.
WE START OFF WITH EMMETT JOHNSON MENTIONING AGAIN SOME OF THE GOOD BLOCKING, EMMETT JOHNSON TAKING ADVANTAGE OF IT.
HERE HE IS FOR SIX YARDS EARLY IN THE GAME ISAIAH MOZEE WE GET HIM IN THE GAME.
NICE RUN HERE.
JUST GETS SHORT OF THAT.
FIRST DOWN OVER AND OVER NEBRASKA WAS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF WHAT THE OFFENSIVE LINE WAS DOING AND WHAT EMMETT WAS DOING.
>> YEAH THE SCHEME EARLY ON.
THEIR ABILITY TO SCRIPT AND KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON.
AND THEY FINALLY THEY WON A 5050 BALL.
YEAH.
RIGHT.
SO WHEN YOUR PLAYMAKERS MAKE PLAYS EVERYTHING OPENS UP TO YOU.
>> AND THREE FOR THREE ON THIRD DOWN.
COMING OFF OF WINNING THE GAME FOUR FOR FOUR ON THIRD DOWN THE WEEK BEFORE.
GREAT PLAY RIGHT THERE BY WILLIAMS WITH THE STOP LOSS OF ONE YARD THERE.
GOOD GAME OVERALL BY THE DEFENSIVE BACKS MAKING PLAYS ON BALLS 5050 BALLS.
YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT WINNING THEM ON THE DEFENSIVE SIDE.
ANOTHER PASS OUTSIDE HERE BUT STILL GOOD TACKLING.
THAT WAS ANOTHER THING WE DIDN'T TALK ABOUT A LOT OF MISSED TACKLES.
>> YEAH THERE WAS JUST A LITTLE MISCOMMUNICATION TOO ON THAT ONE WHERE HE ALLOWED HIM TO GET OPEN AND THEN THEY KIND OF GET IN A RHYTHM HERE WITH THE GROUND GAME.
>> YEAH.
KING MILLER WHO AGAIN THIRD BACK.
BUT IT'S THE SYSTEM.
YOU WATCH HOW THEY BLOCK.
PRETTY MUCH WHEN THE FOURTH GUY CAME IN HE RAN THROUGH HOLES AS WELL BECAUSE THAT'S HOW GOOD THEY ARE.
WE MOVED TO SECOND QUARTER ACTION NOW KING MILLER AGAIN THIS TIME FOR 16 YARDS DOWN TO NEBRASKA'S SEVEN YARD LINE.
AND THEN ENDED UP GETTING A FIELD GOAL RIGHT THERE BECAUSE THEY THREW THE BALL NEBRASKA GOT STOPPED.
KING MILLER COMES BACK AGAIN THAT TIME WITH 15 YARDS ON THAT ONE.
AND HERE'S ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE SECONDARY DOING THEIR JOB, MAKING A PLAY, GETTING INTO THE DEFENDER AND KNOCKING I'M GETTING INTO THE WIDE RECEIVER KNOCKING.
>> IT AWAY.
>> AS I THOUGHT IT WAS OUTSTANDING.
IF FCS SENT THREE OR LESS RECEIVERS INTO THE ROUTE, THEY ALMOST COULDN'T GET OPEN.
SO YOU GOT TO BUILD ON THAT.
AND WHEN YOU WANT TO ESTABLISH YOUR RUN FRONT COMING THIS WEEKEND.
>> NINE YARD RUN THERE FOR KING MILLER AGAIN.
NOW THIS IS CALLED A GROUNDING.
AND IT GOES TO BE A SACK THERE BY MOST OF THE STATS.
SO YOU GOT A SACK THERE FOR SHAVERS.
AWESOME FOR HIM.
AND THEN GETTING THE BALL OUT OF THE BACKFIELD.
YOU MENTIONED ONLY TWO CATCHES FOR 15 YARDS.
YOU COULD SEE MORE OF THAT THIS WEEK.
>> YOU THINK YEAH EMMETT JOHNSON.
>> BY LETOWSKI GETTING DOWNFIELD TOO.
AND THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO SEE.
>> YES.
>> FIND THIS GUY.
>> THERE'S A HECK OF A THROW.
>> TO PATROLLING.
>> THE MIDDLE.
YEAH I AGREE COMPLETELY WITH YOU.
HE IS.
HE'S OPENING SUCH A BIG BODY TO AS LONG AS HE'S IN BETWEEN THE DEFENDER GO THROUGH HIM.
YOU'RE GOING TO BREAK THIS PLAY DOWN A TEN YARD TOUCHDOWN RUN.
>> YEAH JUST A GOOD AGAIN MAN SCHEME HAT IN THE HAT LITOVSKY DOES A GOOD JOB OF JUST GETTING THAT GUY SEALED OFF ENOUGH TO CREATE THAT CREASE.
AND EMMETT JUST PUTS HIS HEAD DOWN AND RUNS RIGHT THROUGH IT.
>> 14 SIX NEBRASKA.
THEY'RE FEELING PRETTY GOOD AND FEELING REALLY GOOD RIGHT HERE ANDREW MARSHALL KIND OF FEINTS THE BLITZ DROPS BACK OUT.
GETS THE INTERCEPTION ON THAT GREAT PLAY BY HIM.
YOU KNOW SOMETIMES YOU MAKE THE GREAT PLAY.
YOU DON'T CATCH IT.
HE CAUGHT IT EMMETT JOHNSON SEVEN YARDS ON THAT PLAY.
MOVES TO THIRD AND THREE FOR NEBRASKA.
THIS IS ACTUALLY FIRST AND TEN FOR NEBRASKA.
AND OBVIOUSLY THE LATE BLITZ COMES FROM ONE SIDE.
AND PRITCHETT STRUGGLE A LITTLE BIT WITH HIS GUY.
BUT THIS IS THIS IS A DIRTY PLAY.
>> YEAH I'M NOT A HUGE FAN.
I YOU KNOW I FEEL ABOUT THESE TACKLES AND THIS TIME IT IT RESULTS IN YOUR WORST FEAR WHICH IS WHICH IS A BREAK.
>> NEBRASKA DOING A GREAT JOB RIGHT THERE ON FOURTH DOWN SOMETHING THEY HAVE DONE REALLY WELL ON SHORT DOWNS WHEN IT'S RUNNING BACKS STOPPING THEM A LOT OF TIMES.
EMMETT JOHNSON FIVE YARD PLAY.
AND HERE'S PRITCHETT STANDING AROUND THE PILE OR STANDING NEAR THE PILE AND FALLS ON HIS ANKLE.
>> YEP, IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, MAN.
WHETHER IT'S FRIENDLY FIRE AND OTHER GUY IT YOU GOT TO BE.
THAT'S WHY YOU SEE A LOT OF OFFENSIVE LINEMEN WEAR THOSE ANKLE BRACES AND THOSE KNEE BRACES AS WELL.
BUT THAT WAS UNFORTUNATE.
>> 52 YARD FIELD GOAL A LITTLE SHORT.
AND TO THE RIGHT THERE.
AND IT'S A TOUGH TOUGH STADIUM TO KICK INTO THE NORTH STADIUM.
AND IT WAS COLD AND HUMID AS WELL.
SO TOUGH TO KICK IN THAT A LITTLE BIT SHORT.
HERE'S AN UNDERTHROWN BALL JUST WORKS OUT FOR HIM.
GREAT COVERAGE GREAT COVERAGE ON THE PLAY.
>> TWICE THEY GET THE TWO 5050 BALLS.
AND YOU KNOW SC HAD SIX CONSECUTIVE PLAYS WHERE THEY GOT 107 OF THEIR TOTAL YARDS.
YEAH RIGHT.
SO YOU HAVE TO COMPARTMENTALIZE.
YOU KNOW THAT'S SOMETHING TO BUILD ON.
THIS PLAY IS WORTH 107.
>> HERE'S 32 OF THEM BACK TO BACK 16 YARD RUNS.
YOU'RE GOING TO BREAK DOWN THE SECOND PLAY THE TOUCHDOWN RUN.
>> AND SHAVERS HAD SOME BAD EYES.
HE KIND OF KNOWS HE CAN'T.
HE HAS NO BUSINESS TRYING TO LOOK PEEK INSIDE ON THAT PLAY.
>> IT'S A GREAT TWO POINT CONVERSION PLAY HERE.
IT JUST EYES WERE GOING EVERYWHERE JUST WATCHING IT ON TV.
>> THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PLAY A LOT OF MAN TO MAN DOWN.
YEAH THAT WAS.
>> THAT WAS A REALLY GOOD PLAY THERE.
YOU'RE NOT SURPRISED BY THAT.
1414 EMMETT JOHNSON, THOUGH, CONTINUES HIS GOOD DAY SIX YARDS RUSHING ON THAT FIRST AND TEN.
AND THEN THE TV SHOWS YOU WHAT HE CAN DO RIGHT HERE.
>> SEE THIS RIGHT.
>> HERE RPO.
>> IT'S TOUGH TOO BECAUSE THEY CAN THROW OFF OF THAT.
>> YEAH.
>> THE LONGER THE QUARTERBACK HOLDS THE BALL THE THE TOUGHER IT IS TO STOP.
>> HUNTER'S CONFIDENCE IS AT A HIGH LEVEL.
HOW MANY TIMES DOES HE BREAKING TACKLES WHEN HE CATCHES.
>> THE BALL.
>> HE'S A VIOLENT.
>> HE IS NOT GOING DOWN ON THE FIRST CONTACT AT ALL.
HAND OFF EMMETT JOHNSON HERE.
BIG RUN FOR HIM 23 YARDS DOWN THE LEFT SIDELINE TO GET THE FIRST DOWN.
>> GREAT BLOCKING BY HUNTER TOO ON THE EDGE MAN.
THEY BROUGHT THAT GUY DOWN THERE AND SEALED THEM OFF.
THAT WAS FANTASTIC.
>> EVERYTHING HE'S DONE MAN.
EVERYTHING HE'S DOING.
SEVEN YARD LOSS ON THAT ONE.
SO SETTLE FOR A FIELD GOAL TO GO UP 17 1439 YARDS THERE FOR CUNANAN.
THEN MAIAVA COMES BACK TRYING TO GET THE BALL TO MEKHI LEMON.
CAN YOU BELIEVE TWO CATCHES 18 YARDS THAT SOMEBODY DID.
>> REALLY GOOD WORK.
>> ONE OF THE BEST IN.
>> THE COUNTRY.
YEAH.
>> HERE'S THE DELAYED FLEA FLICKER.
THREW IT TO THE OUTSIDE.
GUTHRIE'S GOT IT COVERED AND HE MAKES THE CATCH.
IT WAS JUST A IT WAS JUST YOU KNOW IT WORKED OUT FOR THEM ON THERE.
AND THEN THROW TO THE END ZONE.
YOU TALKED ABOUT THIS DAMON SINGLETON TRYING TO TURN.
>> THE WRONG WAY.
>> HEY JUST OPENED THE WRONG WAY.
HE DIDN'T HAVE TO PANIC.
HE'S IN GOOD SHAPE.
>> YEAH.
>> JUST USE YOUR EYES.
>> WATSON-TRENT GOT TO GET OVER THE TOP ON THIS.
>> YEAH, HE'S GOT TO HIT THAT QUICKER.
YOU SEE FACE MASK.
>> YOU GOT TO GET DOWNHILL.
>> YOU GOT TO GET DOWNHILL THERE.
THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT.
YEAH, HE ENDED UP GETTING CAUGHT BY THE TIGHT END AND GOT BLOCKED.
AND THERE WAS A TOUCHDOWN.
EMMETT JOHNSON GETTING GOING AGAIN HOPING GIVING NEBRASKA A CHANCE TO TO GET A DRIVE TOGETHER.
THIS WAS THIS CLOSE TO OPENING UP.
>> THERE WAS SO CLOSE.
>> SO CLOSE TO OPENING UP.
>> I LOVE THE PLAY CALL.
HOPEFULLY WE SEE SOME MORE OF THAT THIS WEEKEND AND THE REST OF THE SEASON.
>> YEAH THIS IS A THEY CALL THIS AN INTERFERENCE.
BUT NEBRASKA OVERALL IN THESE THREE PLAYS FORCED THEM TO BE DOWN 17 YARDS.
SO THIRD AND 17 BY THIS DRIVE ENDS.
AND NEBRASKA GETS THE BALL BACK.
GREAT PUNT BY THEIR PUNTER DOWN TO THE FOUR YARD LINE.
BUT NEBRASKA STARTED MOVING THE BALL A GOOD RUN BY LATEEF GETTING THE FIRST DOWN AND GIVING THEM A CHANCE TO GET STARTED ON THE DRIVE WEREN'T GOING VERY FAST BECAUSE THEY HAD TO GO IN A HUDDLE AND KIND OF WORK WITH THE PLAY CALLING A LITTLE BIT, BUT LATEEF RUNS OUT HERE AGAIN.
GOT TO PROTECT THE BALL.
>> DB YEAH.
TWICE.
HE LOST THE BALL GOING.
>> MAKES COACHES NERVOUS, BUT YOU NEED TIME TO OVERCOME NERVES.
>> THIS THIS ZONE READ.
IT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAPPENS SOMETIMES.
FOOT OF THE.
COURT BACK GETS A LITTLE CLOSE TO THE RUNNING BACK AND THE TRIP HAPPENS.
YEAH BUT TOUGH WAY TO END THE GAME.
IT REALLY WAS I MEAN YOU REALLY FELT THAT NEBRASKA COULD PUT A DRIVE TOGETHER THERE.
HERE ARE YOUR FINAL STATS.
AS I SAID TO DB A FEW A LITTLE WHILE AGO, IT WAS AN INCREDIBLY EVEN GAME.
OVERALL.
LOOK AT THE YARDAGE.
LOOK AT THEY HAD 20 EACH HAD 21ST DOWNS.
THE TURNOVERS GOT TWO TURNOVERS.
THERE.
YOU LOOK AT OVERALL IT WAS A VERY EVEN GAME OVERALL.
BUT JUST NEBRASKA COMES UP SHORT.
LET'S GO TO THE PLAYERS OF THE GAME EMMETT JOHNSON WITH A GREAT NIGHT 29 CARRIES 165 YARDS TOUCHDOWN TWO RECEPTIONS FOR 15 YARDS.
JUST A GREAT DAY OVERALL FOR HIM.
AND JAVIN WRIGHT WHO IS CONTINUING TO HAVE AN INCREDIBLE SEASON.
HE'S HAD AN INCREDIBLE SEASON FOR A GUY WHO, YOU KNOW 11 TACKLES WAS OUT FOR A WHILE.
SO LET'S GO AND BREAK DOWN A COUPLE MORE KEY PLAYS FROM THE DEFEAT.
LET'S GO OVER TO MR.
MOORE FOR JASE.
>> PLAYS.
>> ALL RIGHT WELCOME IN TO JASE PLAYS TONIGHT.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT THE TEN YARD EMMETT JOHNSON TOUCHDOWN RUN EMMETT HAD A FANTASTIC GAME TONIGHT.
BUT AS YOU LOOK HERE GREAT MAN BLOCKING SCHEME HERE.
YOU'RE GOING TO SEE CORCORAN'S GOING TO KICK OUT ON THE RIGHT.
SPINDLER TAKES THAT GUY THE DEFENSIVE TACKLE TOWARDS THE THE FIELD SIDE EVANS IS TAKING THE NOSE TACKLE.
LITOVSKY DOES A GREAT JOB GETTING THIS LINEBACKER THAT TRIES TO FILL DOWNHILL.
PRITCHETT TAKES OFF FROM THE FOUR TECHNIQUE RIGHT HERE.
BUT YOU GET LINDENMEYER THAT WINDS BACK.
NEBRASKA LIKES TO DO THIS.
THE RUN GAMES AND LIKES TO KIND OF BRING BACK THE TIGHT END TO CREATE THIS GAP.
BUT YOU CAN SEE EVERY GUY IS WINNING.
BUT THE BEST JOB IS EVANS DOES A GREAT JOB OF SEALING OFF HIS GUY, AND LITOVSKY DOES A GOOD JOB OF GETTING THAT RIGHT HAND, THAT THAT GAP SIDE HAND, AND KEEPING A STRONG WIND SO HE CAN'T COME OFF AND MAKE THIS PLAY AS YOU RUN IT.
YOU SEE HERE THAT JUST KEEPS THAT HOLE THERE.
AND JUST JUST ENOUGH TIME FOR EMMETT TO CLEAR THROUGH AND GET HIS HEAD DOWNHILL.
AND AGAIN FANTASTIC GAME BY EMMETT.
SO LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT THIS MAIAVA TOUCHDOWN.
THEY DO A REALLY GOOD JOB WITH THE WITH THE MESH ACTION.
SO NEBRASKA YOU PUT PUT THE FRESHMEN HERE IN CONFLICT.
BUT WE CALL THIS AS A SPILL TECHNIQUE.
THIS NEBRASKA'S PLAYING THIS INSIDE OUT.
WE TALKED ABOUT BOXING VERSUS SPILLING A LOT OF TIMES THIS YEAR.
SO THIS IS SPILLING FITTING INSIDE.
THAT MEANS SHAVERS HAS TO GET OUT HERE A LITTLE QUICKER.
WE HAVE JONES RIGHT HERE.
RIGHT.
HE'S ABLE TO DO THIS BUT HE'S GOT EYES ON 85 AS WELL.
SO HE'S GOING TO KIND OF HAVE TO HAS TO RESPECT HIM.
THIS PUTS SHAVERS IN A BAD SPOT.
HE NEEDS TO GET DOWNHILL QUICKER AND MAKE THIS PLAY.
BUT HE DOESN'T.
AND OBVIOUSLY WE KNOW THE END RESULT RIGHT.
BOOM.
HE JUST HE HAS THAT AGAIN.
THAT'S BAD EYES.
YOU SAW HIM LOOK AND HE DID NOT READ HIM GOOD ENOUGH.
HE DID NOT PLAY WITH GOOD ENOUGH EYES.
THAT WAS CLEAR ENOUGH FOR HIM TO MAKE THAT PLAY.
BUT HIS EYES WERE TOO BAD.
AS YOU CAN SEE HERE.
ONE MORE TIME.
JUST THE EYES WEREN'T GOOD ENOUGH ON THAT MESH POINT.
AND WE KNOW WHY THEY GOT THAT TOUCHDOWN THERE.
SO LET'S SEND IT BACK TO MICHAEL.
>> THANKS JAKE.
GOOD JOB.
NEXT COMING UP WE'LL BE JOINED BY FORMER HUSKER JEREMIAH SIRLES TO TALK CONTRACTS AND THE LOSS OF DYLAN RAIOLA.
WE GO TO BREAK WITH THESE SHOTS FROM HURRDAT SPORTS BACK IN TWO.
>> I DON'T WANT TO START TALKING LIKE I'M THE DOCTOR.
I KNOW WHEN THEY TOLD ME, THEY SAID IT COULD BE.
IT COULD BE SURGICAL, COULD BE NON-SURGICAL.
THEY SAID SOMEWHERE LIKE 8 TO 12 WEEKS.
BUT I DON'T WANT TO START GETTING INTO ALL THAT.
BUT IT IS SURGICAL.
IT WAS RECOMMENDED SURGERY.
SO IT'S NOT LIKE IT'S LIKE A HEY BATTLE YOUR WAY THROUGH IT TYPE DEAL.
YOU KNOW, IF ANYONE SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT DYLAN, JUST JUST KNOW THIS.
THE KID HAD A BROKEN LEG AND HE WAS WARMING UP AND BEGGING ME TO PLAY.
THAT'S ALL YOU GOT TO KNOW ABOUT THAT KID?
TO KNOW WHO HE IS.
>> HAD AN EFFECT ON ALL OF US.
OF COURSE, KNOWING THAT'S OUR BOY.
AND JUST TO VISIT ANY ONE OF OUR TEAMMATES, WE'LL FEEL SOME KIND OF WAY FOR HIM.
BUT BEING THAT THAT'S MY BOY, I FEEL BAD FOR HIM.
THAT HAS HAPPENED TO HIM.
BUT I FEEL LIKE GOD DON'T MAKE MISTAKES AND I FEEL LIKE HE GOING TO COME BACK STRONG AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE AN EVEN BETTER SEASON NEXT YEAR.
>> I TOOK SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THAT AND I WAS REALLY SAD WHEN THAT HAPPENED, AND HORROR, WATCHING THAT PLAY BACK OVER AGAIN, AND I FELT TERRIBLE FOR HIM AFTER THE GAME AND HAD HIM ON WITH HIM.
JUST HUGGED HIM.
YEAH.
>> DYLAN WAS INCREDIBLE ON THE SIDELINES.
I MEAN, IT WAS UNFORTUNATE WE HAD MOMENTUM.
YOU KNOW, WE WERE GOING TO GO SCORE IN.
THAT GAME WAS GOING TO END DIFFERENTLY.
WE ALL KNOW THAT.
BUT THE REALITY OF IT IS OUR CROWD WAS PROBABLY BETTER AFTER IT HAPPENED.
OUR PLAYERS DIDN'T FLINCH, DIDN'T BLINK.
CREDIT TO OUR DEFENSE FOR GOING OUT THERE AND GETTING A STOP.
DIDN'T LET HIM SCORE ON THAT.
ON THAT TURNOVER AND CREDIT TO TJ AND OUR OFFENSE FOR GOING OUT THERE AND JUST CONTINUING TO FIGHT AND CONTINUE TO PLAY THE PLAYS WERE THERE.
>> YEAH.
NO DOUBT.
IT JUST COMES DOWN TO, YOU KNOW, TALKING WITH THEM DURING THE WEEK, MAKING SURE THAT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE DOING EVERYTHING ON OUR PART PREPARATION WISE TO HELP HIM OUT.
AND THEN IT'S REALLY JUST, YOU KNOW, EVERY MAN ON THE FIELD, WHETHER IT BE, YOU KNOW, OFFENSE, DEFENSE OR SPECIAL TEAMS JUST DOING THEIR MOST TO JUST MAKE HIM COMFORTABLE, JUST DOING YOUR JOB A LITTLE BIT BETTER FOR HIM, JUST TO HAVE HIM SETTLE IN, BETTER IN THE GAME.
>> ALL RIGHT.
LET'S WELCOME IN OUR GUEST THIS WEEK, FORMER HUSKER OFFENSIVE LINEMAN JEREMIAH SIRLES JOINING US ON ZOOM.
JEREMIAH, HOW ARE YOU DOING?
>> I'M DOING FANTASTIC, BOYS.
HOW ABOUT YOURSELVES?
>> WE'RE DOING WELL.
WE WANT TO START OFF WITH AS A GUY WHO HANDLES SOME CONTRACTS, YOUR THOUGHTS ON RHULE'S EXTENSION?
SOME OF THE DETAILS IN THERE, THE WAY THEY HANDLE IT DIDN'T NECESSARILY INCREASE THE BASE BUT ADDED SOME BONUSES.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF IT?
>> I THOUGHT IT WAS THE EXACT RIGHT MOVE.
YOU KNOW, YOU TALK ABOUT HOW DO YOU STEADY THE SHIP AND HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE LONG TERM DEVELOPMENT OVER A PROGRAM?
WELL, YOU DON'T CHANGE EVERY SINGLE YEAR.
AND IT'S SAME THING IN THE NFL.
AND IT'S NOT A PATIENT LEAGUE ANYMORE.
IT'S NOT A PATIENT COLLEGE FOOTBALL.
IT'S NOT PATIENT IN THE NFL ANYMORE.
AND SO ANYTIME THAT YOU CAN SETTLE THE SHIP AND SAY, HEY, RECRUITS FOR 2026, RECRUITS FOR 27, THIS IS OUR GUY, HE'S NOT GOING ANYWHERE.
WE'RE GOING TO KEEP HIM HERE.
AND IF THEY SAVE THEMSELVES, IT'S NOT LIKE WE MADE HIM $1,314 MILLION HEAD COACH.
LIKE WE JUST MOVED SOME STUFF AROUND.
AND I THINK RHULE WANTS TO STICK AROUND AND SAY, HEY, I'VE BUILT SOMETHING HERE.
I WANT TO SEE IT TO FRUITION FOR THE FIRST TIME AND NOT DO THE JUMP AND REBUILD THING.
I FELT LIKE IT WAS THE RIGHT MOVE BY NEBRASKA.
I ALSO DON'T THINK THERE WAS ANOTHER OPTION BESIDES EXTENDING HIM.
AS LONG AS WE WANTED TO QUIET THE RUMORS AROUND.
>> YEAH, NO, THAT'S A VERY GOOD POINT.
BUT LET'S LET'S JUMP INTO THE OFFENSIVE LINE RIGHT NOW.
SIRLES AND YOUR GUY WHO PLAYED TACKLE PLAYED MULTIPLE POSITIONS IN THE NFL.
NEBRASKA HAS HAD SOME GUYS WHO HAD TO SWING, GUYS PLAYING GUARD, HAD TO PLAY TACKLE BECAUSE OF INJURIES.
THE DIFFICULTY DOING THIS IN JUST DEVELOPING THE DEVELOPING THAT AND GETTING COMFORTABLE PLAYING GUARD TACKLE, LEFT TACKLE VERSUS RIGHT TACKLE.
WE KNOW THAT'S VASTLY DIFFERENT FOR FOR CERTAIN GUYS.
BUT JUST YOU DID IT.
TALK TO THE THE DIFFICULTIES OF YOUNG PLAYERS DEVELOPING AND LEARNING THOSE MULTIPLE POSITIONS AS AS THEY GROW UP.
>> YEAH, IT'S EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.
I MEAN, OBVIOUSLY YOU WOULD LOVE TO JUST FIND SOMEONE, STICK THEM IN ONE POSITION AND SAY, GROW, DEVELOP, LEARN THE SKILL SET HERE, LEARN HOW YOU CAN BE THE BEST LEFT GUARD OR THE BEST LEFT TACKLE OR WHATEVER IT MIGHT BE.
BUT UNFORTUNATELY, INJURIES ARE PART OF THE GAME AND INJURIES ARE PART OF THE GAME AND YOU HAVE TO MOVE THINGS AROUND.
I MEAN, WE STARTED THE YEAR WITH TURNER CORCORAN, AND THEN WHEN WE HAD GUNNAR KATULA AND THEN WE HAD TEDDY PROHASKA, AND NOW YOU'RE SWITCHING.
AND, YOU KNOW, I FIND OURSELVES VERY LUCKY THAT OUR INTERIOR THREE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STAY SO HEALTHY ALL LONG.
BECAUSE IF YOU LOOK AT WHERE I GOT A CHANCE TO WATCH YOUR BREAKDOWN THERE, JAY, MAJORITY OF OUR BIG RUNS DON'T COME FROM THE EDGES.
THEY COME FROM THE A GAP LIKE THEY COME FROM A-GAP AND B-GAP.
AND THERE'S A MEANINGFUL REASON FOR THAT.
THOSE THREE GUYS IN THE MIDDLE ARE PLAYING EXTREMELY WELL.
WE HAVE THE ISSUES ON THE TACKLES WITH FLIPPING GUYS ON SIDES.
IT'S IT'S VERY DIFFICULT, NOT JUST FROM A PHYSICAL STANDPOINT, BUT FROM A MENTAL STANDPOINT.
IF YOU'RE PLAYING A BUNCH OF LEFT TACKLE AND ALL CAMP, YOU'RE HEARING THE PLAY CALL AND IN YOUR BRAIN, YOU KNOW, OKAY, HEY, GUN 16 POWER AND I'M THE LEFT TACKLE.
I'M LIKE, OH YEAH, I'M A JAB AND PICK.
THIS IS EASY.
AND ALL SUDDEN YOU'RE ON RIGHT SIDE AND YOU'RE LIKE, WAIT, NOW I HAVE A DEUCE OR A TREY.
AND SO IT'S JUST THE WHOLE PIECE FROM THE MENTALITY OF HOW DO I BE ABLE TO SHIFT THAT FROM MENTAL INTO PHYSICAL?
AND ALSO I HAVE TO PLAY REALLY FAST AND OH, THERE'S A REALLY GOOD DEFENSIVE END STANDING ACROSS FROM ME AS WELL.
SO IT JUST TAKES A LOT TO CONTINUE TO PRACTICE WITH THAT.
AND AS A YOUNG PLAYER, WHEN THINGS ARE HAPPENING QUICKLY, I THINK THAT IT CAN BE KIND OF TRIAL BY FIRE WHERE IT'S GREAT FOR DEVELOPMENT BECAUSE YOU'RE GETTING THOSE LIVE REPS.
BUT YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND FROM A COACHES PERSPECTIVE, FROM A FANS PERSPECTIVE, THERE'S GOING TO BE BUMPS ALONG THE WAY BECAUSE THAT'S JUST HOW IT GOES WITH DEVELOPMENT.
IT'S NOT LINEAR.
IT'S UP AND DOWN.
>> JEREMIAH.
IT SEEMS LIKE PLAYING ON ALL THESE DIFFERENT LEVELS WITH YOU GUYS.
I KNOW YOU PROBABLY PREFER TO RUN BLOCK LIKE MOST OFFENSIVE LINEMEN.
CAN YOU SPEAK?
CAN YOU SPEAK TO MAYBE SOME COMFORT OR EASE?
RUN BLOCKING OUT OF THE GUN CAN BE DIFFICULT VERSUS WHEN THEY'RE UNDER THE CENTER FROM TIMING STANDPOINT.
BUT YOU NOW ADD A QUARTERBACK RUNNING DIMENSION.
DO YOU GUYS FEEL THAT WHEN YOU HAVE ANOTHER OPTION IN THE BACKFIELD, WHEN YOU'RE PRIMARILY RUN BLOCKING FROM OUT OF THE SHOTGUN FORMATION?
>> YEAH, ABSOLUTELY.
I MEAN, YEAH, AND OBVIOUSLY DB WE ALWAYS WANT TO RUN BLOCK FIRST.
THOSE DUDES ARE FREAK SHOWS ON THE EDGE TO TRY AND STOP.
IT'S NOT SUPER NOT SUPER FUN TO BACKPEDAL WHEN SOMEONE RUNS 4 OR 5 COMING OFF THE EDG, BUT WHEN YOU HAVE THAT QUARTERBACK ELEMENT THERE, IT SLOWS THE LINEBACKERS DOWN A LOT, RIGHT?
WHEN I MEAN AND I LOVE DYLAN AND HE'S A GREAT QUARTERBACK, BUT HE DOESN'T HAVE THE WHEELS, RIGHT.
HIS OFFENSIVE LINE, HIS DAD WAS BUILT LIKE ME, RIGHT.
HE'S NOT SURPRISED THE GENE POOL DOESN'T RUN DEEP.
RIGHT.
AND SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT WHAT LATEEF CAN DO AND WHEN YOU LOOK AT LIKE EVEN ON THE RUNS WITH EMMETT JOHNSON, WHEN IT'S THIS ZONE READ AND IT'S THIS PISTOL FORMATION AND THAT AND YOU SEE DYLAN TURNER HAND IT OFF, THOSE LINEBACKERS ARE TRIGGERING QUICKLY.
AND THE REASON FOR THAT IS THEY WANT TO GET OFF OF THE DOUBLE TEAMS OF THE D LINEMEN.
THEY WANT TO MAKE THE OFFENSIVE LINEMAN HAVE TO CLIMB ON THEM FAST AND PLUG THE HOLES QUICKLY AND NOT ALLOW EMMETT TO GET STARTED.
WELL, NOW YOU ADD THIS ELEMENT OF, HEY, IF HE CAN HAND IT AND YOU WANT TO FIRE QUICKLY, HEY, HE CAN COME OUT AROUND THE EDGE.
AND SO NOW THE DEFENSIVE ENDS AREN'T CRASHING DOWN AS MUCH.
THE LINEBACKERS MIGHT SIT OR BOUNCE ONE MORE STEP, WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO DISPLACE THOSE GUYS ON THE DOUBLE TEAM FOR ONE MORE YARD.
AND SO AS AN OFFENSIVE LINEMAN WITH THE QUARTERBACK RUN, YOU CAN BE MORE PATIENT ON THOSE DOUBLE TEAMS.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO FEEL THIS IMMEDIATE NEED OF, I GOT TO BANG AND GET OFF TO THIS LINEBACKER BECAUSE HE'S GOING TO BE FILLING THE GAP.
I CAN BE MORE PATIENT AND BLOCK FOR THE HANDOFF FIRST, BUT BE ABLE TO READ AND REACT WHERE I CAN WATCH THAT LINEBACKER, WHERE IF HE COMES OVER THE TOP, I PUSH MY GUARD THROUGH AND IT'S PROBABLY A HAND OFF TO EMMETT.
IF I STAY ON THAT DOUBLE TEAM AND I SEE THAT LINEBACKER START TO MOVE BACK OVER THE TOP RIGHT, IF THEY'RE DOING A SQUEEZE SCRAPE AND HE'S COMING AROUND NOW AS A TACKLE, I CAN YOU THAT GUY OUT.
AND NOW THE QUARTERBACK CAN TRY AND CUT OFF UNDERNEATH ME.
SO IT REALLY IS JUST MORE OF A TIMING AND A FEEL THING.
THAT ALL BEING SAID, I'M NOT SURE HOW QUICKLY YOU CAN GET THAT TIMING AND THAT FEEL THING DOWN IN THREE THREE DAYS OF PRACTICE DURING THE WEEK.
I THINK IT MIGHT BE AN IN GAME THING WHERE YOU JUST HAVE TO GET THAT FEEL WITH LATEEF AND THAT PIECE THERE, BUT IT DOES DEFINITELY SLOW THOSE LINEBACKERS DOWN AS FAR AS COMING DOWNHILL AND FILLING THE GAPS.
>> JEREMIAH SEARLS JOINING US HERE ON BIG RED WRAP-UP.
WHAT ABOUT FOR DROP BACK?
BECAUSE A LOT OF TIMES, I KNOW YOU HAVE A GUY WHO LEAVES THE POCKET AS AN OFFENSIVE LINEMAN.
YOU'RE EXPECTING HIM TO BE ONE PLACE HE'S LEAVING.
YOU DON'T WANT TO GRAB, YOU DON'T WANT TO HOLD, RIGHT?
SO THEY'VE GOT TO THINK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THAT, ABOUT HIM ESCAPING AND NOT GRABBING A GUY THEY'RE IN CONTACT WITH.
>> ABSOLUTELY.
I MEAN, IT'S A BLESSING AND A CURSE TO HAVE A MOBILE QUARTERBACK.
IT'S FANTASTIC BECAUSE HE CAN GET YOU OUT OF A LOT OF TROUBLE.
RIGHT?
I CAN REMEMBER A FEW TIMES WHERE THAT LONG RUN WITH TAYLOR MARTINEZ, SPENCER LONG SLIDES THE WRONG WAY.
IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A DEAD ON ARRIVAL PLAY IN THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP, AND IT'S ONE OF THE GREATEST HIGHLIGHTS OF THE GAME.
MAYBE THE ONLY HIGHLIGHT OF THE GAME, RIGHT?
BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT FROM LIKE WITH DYLAN BACK THERE, YOU KNOW WHERE HE'S GOING TO BE, RIGHT?
I PLAYED WITH SAM BRADFORD VERY SIMILAR.
YOU KNEW WHERE HE WAS GOING TO BE.
HE WASN'T GOING TO BE OFF THAT SPOT AND THE BALL WAS GOING TO BE OUT WITH A GUY LIKE LATEEF AS A YOUNG PLAYER, RIGHT?
YOU'RE GOING TO ASSUME THAT IT'S GOING TO BE FIRST READ, SECOND READ MAYBE, AND THEN THE DUDE'S GOING TO BE GONE.
AND SO THE INTERNAL CLOCK THAT YOU HAVE AS AN OFFENSIVE LINEMAN HAS TO SPEED UP AND TO WHERE YOU HAVE TO BE LIKE, HEY, I HAVE TO REALLY MAKE SURE THAT I AM STAYING CLEAN AND NOT GETTING QUICK BEATS SO I CAN ALLOW THIS GUY TO GET TO HIS FIRST READ.
AND THEN ALSO UNDERSTANDING FROM THE TACKLE POSITION.
IF YOU CAN FEEL YOUR GUY STARTING TO DISENGAGE, JUST LET HIM GO, RIGHT?
JUST LET HIM GO.
AND IT'S WAY EASIER SAID THAN DONE BECAUSE ALL WE'VE EVER HEARD AND JAIL KNOW THIS.
I WANT TO GRAB YOU AND HOLD ON TO YOU AND NEVER LET YOU LEAVE, RIGHT?
BUT YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO FEEL AS SOON AS THAT GUY STARTS DISENGAGE.
OR YOU CAN READ HIS EYES, YOU HAVE TO LET HIM GO.
AND THAT'S A LOT TO ASK OF A YOUNG TYLER KNAAK AT THE RIGHT TACKLE SPOT.
WHEN YOU'RE GOING TO BE LIKE, BUDDY, JUST HOLD ON, RIGHT?
DO WHATEVER YOU GOT TO DO.
BUT ALSO DON'T HOLD THE GUY.
>> JEREMIAH, WALK US THROUGH NEBRASKA, ONE OF NEBRASKA'S PET PLAYS, WHICH IS DUO, RIGHT?
WHEN TACKLES, THEY'RE FLIPPING SIDES.
BUT WHEN NEBRASKA CAN USE THEIR TIGHT ENDS AND YOU TALK ABOUT THE PATIENCE AND AND HOW TO READ IT, HOW CAN THE QB RUN GAME HELP COMPLEMENT WHAT NEBRASKA LIKES TO DO WITH WHAT WE CALL DUO?
>> YEAH, SO DUO IS A GREAT PLAY.
IT'S MY FAVORITE PLAY EVER.
IT'S IT'S DOUBLE TEAMS AT THE POINT OF ATTACK.
ESSENTIALLY THINK POWER WITHOUT THE PULLER RIGHT.
YOU HAVE POWER WITHOUT THE PULLER.
AND SO YOU CAN USUALLY HAVE TWO DOUBLE TEAMS ON THE FRONT SIDE DEPENDING ON THE FRONT THAT THE THE DEFENSE LIKES TO GIVE YOU.
RIGHT.
SO YOU'LL USUALLY HAVE THE TIGHT END AND THE TACKLE DOUBLE TEAM AND THEN THE GUARD IN THE CENTER OR THE GUARD IN THE TACKLE VICE VERSA.
BUT THE WHOLE POINT OF THE PLAY IS TO TRY AND GET DOUBLE TEAMS AT THE POINT OF ATTACK, TO BE ABLE TO PUSH THAT PIECE FRONT, SIDE.
AND THE ONLY UNBLOCKED PLAYER ON PAPER SHOULD BE THE CORNER.
RIGHT.
AND SO YOU ALWAYS USED TO JOKE WITH THE RUNNING BACKS, LIKE IF YOU BOUNCE DUO, YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN.
AND IF YOU GO OUT THERE AND YOU GET TACKLED BY THAT CORNER, I'M GOING TO FIGHT YOU.
>> THAT'S THE QUICKEST WAY TO GET BENCHED IN THE LEAGUE IS TO BOUNCE DUO.
I MADE THAT MISTAKE.
DUO TIMES.
>> YEAH, YOU BOUNCE DUO AND YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE FIVE OFFENSIVE LINEMEN LOOKING AT YOU LIKE YOU WANT TO DIE, RIGHT?
SO THAT PLAY IS FANTASTIC IF YOU CAN EXECUTE IT.
BUT WHAT'S REALLY GREAT IS YOU CAN GET THAT DUO PLAY AND THE POP PASS THAT COMES OFF OF IT TO A GUY LIKE LUKE LINDENMEYER CAN BE DEADLY.
YEAH, RIGHT.
DEADLY BECAUSE YOU'RE USED TO DOUBLE TEAMING, DOUBLE TEAMING, DOUBLE TEAMING.
AND NOW THAT LINEBACKER IS GOING, I'M NOT LETTING THIS HAPPEN AGAIN.
AND YOU GO DOUBLE TEAM AND THEN YOU JUST LEAK LUKE OUT LATE UP THE SEAM.
AND THERE'S GOING TO BE A PLAY THERE BECAUSE THE SAFETIES ARE GOING TO BE MOVED AROUND.
RIGHT.
OR YOU CAN GO DO A POW.
YOU CAN GO DO A PLAY ACTION AND ROLL THAT OUT TO THE TWO RECEIVER SIDE AND HAVE A QUICK A DOWN THE FIELD LIKE YOU DID TO KEY AND THEN SOMETHING COMING ACROSS.
AND SO THE PLAY ACTIONS OFF OF DUO ARE FANTASTIC BECAUSE IT MAKES THE LINEBACKERS HAVE TO FEED UP IN THERE AND THEN PANIC DROP.
AND THERE'S THAT NICE CUSHION BETWEEN WHERE THE LINEBACKERS PANIC DROP AND WHERE THE SAFETIES ARE PLAYING.
YOU CAN REALLY TRY AND TAKE SOME ADVANTAGE OF STUFF UP INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD.
>> SO WHEN WE KEEP IT SUPER NERDY AND GET STAY IN MORE EXYNOS HERE.
NEBRASKA AT TIME HAS BEEN PICKING UP BLITZES IN PASS PRO, BUT THE MISCOMMUNICATIONS WITH OFFENSIVE TACKLES AND RUNNING BACKS AT TIMES THIS YEAR.
BUT JUST TALK ABOUT THE INTRICACIES OF PICKING UP THOSE BLITZES WHEN YOU'RE KIND OF ZONING ONE WAY, MAN THE OTHER, AND YOU HAVE EITHER A BACK CHIPPING OUTSIDE OR HE'S FILLING INSIDE IN JUST THE COMMUNICATION THAT HAS TO HAPPEN AND UNDERSTANDING THE PROTECTIONS AND WHERE MDM MOST DANGEROUS MAN, ALL THOSE GUYS ARE COMING FROM AND HOW EASY IT IS.
IF YOU'RE JUST OFF A LITTLE BIT THAT YOU HAVE A GUY RUNNING FREE TO THE BACKFIELD TO THE QUARTERBACK.
>> YEAH.
AND THAT'S GOING TO BE BIG THIS WEEK ON THE ROAD RIGHT.
YOU KNOW YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT A YOUNG QUARTERBACK AND WHO'S GOING TO BE POINTING THE PROTECTIONS.
AND I THINK JUSTIN'S DONE A REALLY NICE JOB OF AT LEAST MAKING SURE WE'RE ON THE SAME PAGE.
BECAUSE AS AN OFFENSIVE LINE, YOU CAN BE ALL FIVE WRONG AND STILL BE RIGHT.
THE PROBLEM BECOMES WHEN YOU'VE GOT FOUR GUYS DOING ONE THING, ONE GUY DOING ANOTHER THING, OR TWO GUYS AND THREE GUYS OR WHATEVER IT MIGHT BE, AND THEN YOU THROW THE BACK INTO THAT MIX AND THAT'S WHERE YOU GET THE FREE RUNNERS, AND THAT'S WHERE YOU GET THE GUYS COMING FREE.
AND SO IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT EVERYONE BE ON THE SAME PAGE, EVEN IF IT'S NOT THE RIGHT CALL.
RIGHT?
EVEN IF YOU COME UP THERE AND WE IDENTIFY THE WRONG LINEBACKER.
BUT EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS THAT THAT'S THE IDENTIFIED LINEBACKER.
SO THESE THREE GUYS ARE SLIDING TO HIM.
THESE TWO GUYS ARE MAN ON THIS SIDE RUNNING BACK.
YOUR SCAN STARTS WEAK TO STRONG OR STRONG TO WEAK OR WHATEVER IT MIGHT BE.
AS LONG AS EVERYONE CAN BE ON THE SAME PAGE WILL BE OKAY.
RIGHT.
WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING AND WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE HAPPENS SOMETIMES WHEN WE HAVE THOSE MISCOMMUNICATIONS IS IT LOOKS LIKE THE OFFENSIVE LINE IS BLOCKING EMPTY PROTECTION WHEN IT'S REALLY A SIX MAN PROTECTION.
AND AS A TACKLE, SPECIFICALLY A TACKLE AWAY FROM THE SLIDE SIDE, YOUR JOB IS TO BLOCK INSIDE OUT ON EMPTY PROTECTION, RIGHT?
YOU GOT TO PROTECT THAT B-GAP IMPERATIVELY SO THAT YOUR QUARTERBACK CAN THEN THROW HOT OFF THE WIDEST GUY.
AND I THINK BACK TO THAT MINNESOTA GAME WHERE GUNNAR GOTTULA SETS DIRECT VERTICAL.
HE SLAMS THE DOOR ON THE INSIDE GUY BECAUSE HE THINKS IT'S EMPTY.
THE DEFENSIVE END COMES FREE WHEN ACTUALLY EMMETT WAS STANDING THERE TO TAKE THE INSIDE GUY.
RIGHT.
AND SO THOSE TYPE OF MISCOMMUNICATIONS LEAD TO CATASTROPHES.
BECAUSE WHEN YOU HAVE FREE RUNNERS RIGHT.
THAT'S SACKS.
THAT'S SACK FUMBLES, THAT'S QUARTERBACK TRYING TO FORCE SOMETHING.
AND SO COMMUNICATION IS THE STARTING BLOCK POINT OF ALL PROTECTIONS.
AND THEN FROM THERE COMES THE EXECUTION SIDE OF IT, WHICH WHEN WE GET WHEN WE GET LINED UP RIGHT, THEN YOU HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MORE OF THE X'S AND O'S EXECUTION SIDE AND THE PHYSICAL SIDE.
BUT WE DON'T HAVE THE WE DON'T HAVE THE OPTION HERE TO NOT BE ALL COMMUNICATING AND BE LINED UP AND BE ALL RIGHT.
>> JEREMIAH, WE APPRECIATE IT.
REMEMBER GET A NAP ON SATURDAY BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO BE A LONG NIGHT.
>> YEAH.
1 TO 3 A.M.
WITH COURTNEY THERE FOR BIG RED REACTIONS.
GOING TO BE AN INTERESTING TIME.
BUT YEAH, I'LL DEFINITELY TRY AND GET A LITTLE NAP IN BEFORE THE GAME STARTS FOR THAT 8 P.M.
CENTRAL AND THEN YEAH, HAVE FUN LANDING DB WHEN YOU LAND, IT'S GONNA BE TEN DEGREES OUTSIDE, SO MAKE SURE YOU BRING A COAT.
>> YEAH HE SAID 5 A.M.
ARRIVAL.
THAT'S THE FIRST AND FOREMOST WHAT I'M.
>> CONCERNED ABOUT RIGHT THERE JEREMIAH.
>> WE APPRECIATE IT MAN.
ENJOY THE GAME.
>> HEY APPRECIATE YOU GUYS GO BIG RED.
>> ALL RIGHT.
WHEN WE COME BACK WE'LL TALK SOME RECRUITING AND LOOK AHEAD TO THE BRUINS.
AND TOP PLAYS HERE ON BIG RED WRAP-UP.
[MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] AS WE START OFF WITH ANDREW MARSHALL'S INTERCEPTION.
GREAT JOB BY HIM.
GOT IN THE WAY AND CAUGHT THE BALL.
THAT'S HIS JOB.
HE GOT IT DONE.
NUMBER TWO EMMETT JOHNSON'S TOUCHDOWN.
WE BROKE IT DOWN FOR YOU EARLIER ON.
JASE PLAYS GREAT BLOCKING.
GREAT JOB BY EMMETT.
EXPLODING THROUGH THE HOLE AS WELL TO PUT HIM UP 14 TO 6 EARLY IN THE SECOND QUARTER.
THIRD QUARTER KEY TOUCHDOWN CATCH HERE IN THE CORNER WINS THE 5050 BALL.
EVEN THOUGH HE WAS BEING GRABBED THE WHOLE TIME.
COULD HAVE BEEN INTERFERENCE AS WELL.
BUT GREAT JOB WITH DAN KEY WITH THAT CATCH.
LET'S TALK SOME RECRUITING SEAN CALLAHAN.
IT WAS A BIG WEEKEND.
THE SIDELINE WAS FULL OF GUYS.
>> YEAH, MAYBE ONE OF THE BIGGER WEEKENDS WE'VE SEEN IN TERMS OF JUST VOLUME OF VISITORS THAT HAD HUSKER OFFERS.
I MEAN IT WAS JUST YOU LOOK AROUND LIKE MATT RHULE SAID FIVE STAR, FIVE STAR, FOUR STAR.
I MEAN, IT WAS AN INCREDIBLE SCENE.
UNFORTUNATELY, THEY DIDN'T WIN THE GAME, BUT I STILL THINK THE ATMOSPHERE ITSELF SOLD A LOT OF RECRUITS, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU START TO THINK 2027 AND BEYOND.
>> NEBRASKA LANDS A FOUR STAR WIDE RECEIVER.
>> YEAH, TATE ELLIS JOINS THE CLASS IN THE CLASS OF 2027.
ANOTHER FOUR STAR.
THE STORYLINE NOW HE'S OUT OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, BUT THE 2027 RECRUITING CLASS IS CURRENTLY RANKED FOURTH IN THE COUNTRY.
SO I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE CONFUSED ABOUT WHY THE 2026 CLASS IS NOT RANKED HIGHLY BECAUSE OF THE ROSTER SPOTS THEY HAVE, BUT THEY ARE WELL ON THEIR WAY TO A NATIONALLY RANKED CLASS HERE IN 2027.
>> TALK ABOUT IN-STATE GUY SETTING RECORDS AT WIDE RECEIVER SPOT.
>> YEAH, YOU LOOK AT OMARION JACKSON TONIGHT FROM MILLARD SOUTH 611 85 HAS PUT UP NUMBERS HIS ENTIRE CAREER.
YEAH.
YOU KNOW HE HAS A CHANCE TO BE ONE OF THE ALL TIME LEADING RECEIVERS IN STATE'S HISTORY.
REALLY THE NUMBER ONE OPTION FOR JET TACKLE IN THIS OFFENSE.
HE'LL GO TO IOWA STATE.
AND YOU KNOW HE'LL HAVE A CHANCE TO MAYBE SEE HIM AGAIN ON NEBRASKA PUBLIC MEDIA AS THEY GOT TO GET THROUGH WEST SIDE THOUGH WE KNOW THAT COULD BE THE BIG SEMIFINAL MATCHUP THERE.
AS I SEE DAMON BENNING GETTING GEARED UP.
>> ALWAYS PREPPING ALWAYS PREPPING.
NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT.
THANKS, SEAN.
LET'S GET TO OUR TRIVIA QUESTION.
IN 1970, THE HUSKERS WON THEIR FIRST NATIONAL TITLE AND WENT 11 ZERO AND ONE.
WHO WAS THE TIE AGAINST?
EVERYONE KNOWS THIS.
IT WAS USC 21 TO 21.
OUR WINNER WAS JIMMY YACK.
HE WINS A COPY OF OUR OWN, SEAN CALLAHAN'S NEW BOOK ABOUT HUSKERS.
THE PROGRAM NEBRASKA CURATED HISTORY OF THE CORNHUSKERS.
THIS WEEK'S WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON NEXT WEEK'S SHOW.
THIS WEEK'S TRIVIA QUESTION IN 1972, BOB DEVANEY'S LAST SEASON, UCLA UPSET NUMBER ONE NEBRASKA.
HOW MANY GAME WINNING STREAK DID THAT END, AND WHAT WAS THE SCORE OF THE GAME?
LET'S MOVE ON TO HUSKER HISTORY.
THE BRUINS ARE ALSO PART OF HUSKER HISTORY.
ON SEPTEMBER 18TH, 1993, EIGHTH RANKED NEBRASKA WENT TO THE ROSE BOWL AND THE STAR WAS BORN THAT DAY AS LAWRENCE PHILLIPS RUSHED FOR 137 YARDS.
I'M LEAVING THIS PART ABOUT SUBBING OUT FOR DAMON BENNING, BECAUSE I THINK THAT IS JUST MEAN FOR YOU TO WRITE THAT, MICK.
THAT'S WHAT I THINK ABOUT IT.
YEAH.
NOT GREAT.
BIG LOSS THERE, OF COURSE, BY NEBRASKA.
BUT DB HAD A GOOD GAME.
DID HE HAVE A. YEAH THE D THE D HAD A REALLY GOOD GAME YOU KNOW 1413 YEAH.
TURNING OUR ATTENTION TO PRESENT UCLA BRUINS.
LET'S TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE TEAM.
NOW.
THERE WAS A STAT IN THERE ABOUT THAT WAS WRONG FOR OSBORNE.
AND I WAS LIKE I CAN'T SAY THAT BECAUSE THEY LOST TO ARIZONA STATE IN 96.
SO I KNEW THAT WAS IN THERE.
BUT LET'S TALK ABOUT WHAT THIS UCLA TEAM HAS DONE IN THE LAST FIVE GAMES.
THEY FIRED THEIR COACH AND THEY HAVE GOTTEN BETTER AS THEY'VE GONE ALONG.
>> YEP.
THEY HAVE NEW HIRES NOW.
BEEN TAKING OVER THE PLAY CALLING.
AND WITH DESHAUN FOSTER BEING FIRED AND NICO THEY'VE BEEN UTILIZING HIS I'M NOT GOING TO TRY TO PRONOUNCE HIS LAST NAME RIGHT NOW.
SO.
YEAH YOU GOT KIND OF.
>> LIKE.
>> OWN IT.
>> SING IT.
SING IT I DO IT RIGHT.
YEAH MOLLY OLIVER.
>> OKAY OKAY.
>> YEAH.
>> NICO.
OLIVER.
>> YEAH.
>> I GOT IT.
>> ALL RIGHT.
HERE WE GO.
>> GOT IT.
YEAH, BUT NO, IT'S IT'S BEEN VASTLY DIFFERENT THROUGH THOSE FIRST FOUR GAMES WHERE THEY, THEY DIDN'T WIN A GAME.
THEY FIRE THEM AND, AND ALSO THEY BEAT PENN STATE AND THEY'VE HANDLED THEIR BUSINESS.
THEY LOOK LIKE A MUCH IMPROVED TEAM.
BUT I TELL YOU WHAT.
NEBRASKA'S A YEAR TO SEE THE FANS COMPARED TO HOW MANY UCLA FANS COMPARED TO NEBRASKA FANS THERE ON SATURDAY NIGHT.
BUT THEY HAVE TO BE AGAIN ON POINT.
THIS IS A MUCH IMPROVED TEAM DEFENSIVELY GOING TO HAVE TO HANDLE THEIR BUSINESS.
AND AGAIN, WITH NEBRASKA WITH A VERY YOUNG QUARTERBACK, IT'S GOING TO IT'S GOING TO BE AN INTERESTING SCENARIO.
>> YEAH THE STAT WITHIN THE STAT.
SO THEIR OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY HAS GONE DOWN EVERY WEEK SINCE THE INITIAL COACHING BUMP.
AND NOW THEY'RE OPERATING IN ABOUT THE HIGH 30% AFTER STARTING OUT AT ABOUT 51, 52% WITH THEIR OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY.
THE KEY IS THEY'RE NOW HEALTHY.
THEY GOT THE THEY GOT FOUR RUNNING BACKS ALL OVER 200 YARDS.
YOU KNOW NICO LEADS THEM WITH 300.
THEY GET THEIR LEFT GUARD BACK.
SO THEY'RE COMING OFF A BYE.
WHAT THAT MEANS I DON'T KNOW EXCEPT FOR THEY'RE HEALTHY NOW.
SO WE'LL SEE IF THE NUMBERS GET ANOTHER BOOST AFTER GETTING A CHANCE TO KIND OF SELF-SCOUT.
>> ALL BUT THREE STARTERS ON THE DEFENSE CAME FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE.
IT DOES SHOW YOU THAT THE PORTAL IS NOT ALWAYS A WAY TO WIN, RIGHT?
BECAUSE THAT'S A LOT OF GUYS THEY BROUGHT IN FROM OREGON AND TEXAS TECH AND ALL THESE PLACES, AND THEY AREN'T EXACTLY PRODUCING A LOT.
>> YEAH, I WAS TALKING TO A USC WRITER.
HE'S LIKE, USUALLY WHEN I LOOK AT UCLA, I CAN ALMOST NAME THEIR WHOLE ROSTER BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL GUYS FROM THE AREA.
HE GOES, I ONLY KNOW LIKE 5 OR 6 LA AREA GUYS BECAUSE THEY JUST WENT OUT.
AND I MEAN, THEY EVEN BROUGHT IN A BUNCH OF NEW COACHES AND SOME OF THEM GOT FIRED PRETTY QUICKLY.
WITH THE STAFF CHANGES THEY MADE AFTER DESHAUN FOSTER'S FIRING.
SO YEAH, IT'S BEEN A MESS.
BUT THEY'VE NAVIGATED THROUGH IT WHERE THEY'RE STILL THINKING BOWL GAME OUT THERE.
I MEAN THIS IS A GAME FOR THEM.
IF THEY WANT TO GET TO SIX THEY'VE GOT TO BEAT NEBRASKA.
AND THEN THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO MAYBE PLAY IN A BOWL GAME.
>> LET'S LOOK AT THE BIG TEN STANDINGS WHERE NEBRASKA SITS AND THE REST OF THE BIG TEN.
YOU ALMOST NEED THREE PAGES FOR THIS BIG.
THE BIG TEN IS RIGHT NOW.
BUT YEAH YOU LOOK AT WHAT INDIANA IS INDIANA UCLA RAN AGAINST THE TEAM IN INDIANA JUST BASICALLY SCORED WHENEVER THEY WANTED TO.
I FELT BAD FOR THEM.
I ALSO STATE MICHIGAN, OREGON.
WE TALKED ABOUT WHO THAT FOURTH TEAM IS.
AND THEN THERE'S WHERE NEBRASKA IS SITTING IN THERE.
REMEMBER BY THE WAY NEBRASKA IS SIX AND THREE FOR EVERYBODY OUT THERE.
I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE.
NEBRASKA IS SIX AND THREE ON THE SEASON.
DOESN'T ALWAYS FEEL LIKE THAT.
>> ARE YOU SURPRISED THAT MICHIGAN STILL CONTROLS THEIR OWN DESTINY?
>> BY THE WAY, I SAW THEM PLAY EARLY AGAINST OKLAHOMA.
>> THEY STILL CONTROL THEIR OWN DESTINY.
THAT IS.
THAT'S CRAZY.
>> THEY'VE BEEN PLAYING GREAT.
SOME INTERESTING GAMES AROUND THE BIG TEN THIS WEEK.
BIG NOON HAS PENN STATE LOOKING FOR THEIR FIRST WIN AT HOME.
THAT'S NOT AN INTERESTING GAME, MAN INDIANA OHIO STATE GOES TO PURDUE ON BTN.
AND ANOTHER INTERESTING MATCHUP.
THIS ONE ACTUALLY DOES INTRIGUE ME.
OREGON GOING TO IOWA.
IT'S ONLY THE THIRD TIME THEY MADE A TRIP TO IOWA CITY.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT THEY DO IN IOWA CITY.
THEY UPSET TEAMS.
IT'S WHAT THEY DO.
>> WATCH OUT 20TH IN THE NEW PLAYOFF POLL.
>> AND HERE'S OUR PLAYOFF POLL RIGHT HERE.
BIG TEN IN THE CFP OHIO STATE AT ONE INDIANA AT TWO.
THERE'S OREGON SITTING AT NINE.
USC AT 1920 AT IOWA 21.
THAT MICHIGAN TEAM THAT DAMON WAS TALKING ABOUT AND 23 WASHINGTON.
AND HERE'S THE BRACKET COMING UP NEXT ON THERE.
YOU CAN SEE THAT IT'S A LOT OF TEAMS.
THERE'S A NOTRE DAME OVER THERE.
THERE'S A BYU OVER THERE.
THERE'S A MEMPHIS OVER THERE A LOT OF TEAMS.
>> WELL HOW GOOD ARE OUR GUYS ON SET TO HAVE THE GRAPHICS AND THE UPDATES?
>> THIS JUST CAME I WASN'T EXPECTING THIS.
>> THIS JUST.
>> CAME OUT AN HOUR AGO.
>> FANTASTIC.
>> LET'S CHECK OUT THE SIDELINE SURVEY.
WITHOUT DYLAN RAIOLA, HOW MANY GAMES WILL WIN THE REST OF THE SEASON?
AND 56% OF PEOPLE WHO ARE HATERS SAY NONE.
32% SAY ONE AND ONLY 10% SAY TWO RIGHT THERE.
SO 12% BASICALLY SAY 2 OR 3.
AND I GUESS FOUR WOULD BE WITH THE BOWL GAME.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT THE UPCOMING SCHEDULE AS WE KNOW WHAT'S COMING UP.
UCLA THIS WEEK 8 P.M.
BIG FOX.
SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IF YOU HAVE, YOU KNOW, YOUTUBE TV, YOU'LL BE OKAY.
THEN PENN STATE ON THE ROAD AGAIN AND THEN COME HOME FOR WHAT WILL BE A CALLED A VERY, VERY COLD GAME AGAINST IOWA.
I'M GUESSING IT'S GOING TO BE VERY CHILLY.
>> IT'S ALWAYS COOL.
>> ALWAYS VERY CHILLY.
ONE OF THE BIG QUESTIONS HAS BEEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN ABOUT GETTING TJ LATEEF IN THERE RIGHT NOW THAT HE'S THERE, WHAT'S YOUR FEEL?
>> I'M EXCITED TO SEE WHAT HE HAS.
I'M EXCITED TO SEE, GIVEN THE STAFF, THE OFFENSIVE STAFF A FULL WEEK AND KNOWING MENTALLY THAT HE'S STEPPING IN, HE'S THE HE'S NUMBER ONE QB.
SO I'M EXCITED TO SEE JUST HOW THEY PREPARE HIM, WHAT THEY'RE GIVING HIM, WHAT HIS FIRST 15 LOOK LIKE AND JUST GETTING HIM IN A RHYTHM.
YOU GOT A REALLY GOOD RUNNING BACK, A REALLY GOOD RUNNING GAME.
UTILIZE THAT.
HE HAS HE HAS.
HE'S HE'S A BETTER ATHLETE RUNNING WISE THAN DYLAN.
UTILIZE THAT AND GET HIM SOME SHORT INTERMEDIATE THROWS TO GET HIM SOME RHYTHM.
GET HIM TO GET HIM TO THOSE GREAT RECEIVERS THAT WE HAVE.
GET GET SOME ACTION.
I THINK THIS IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO UTILIZE YOUR WEAPONS AND GET HIM INTO A REALLY GOOD GET HIM COMFORTABLE EARLY ON.
THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT TO DO WITH A YOUNG QB ON THE ROAD.
>> ABOUT 4 OR 5 PEOPLE ASKING THIS QUESTION, INCLUDING WES ON FACEBOOK, DO WE NEED TO OUTLAW THAT DROP THAT HIP DROP TACKLE IN COLLEGE?
>> YOU'RE ASKING THE WRONG GUY.
I CRY ABOUT TACKLING ALL THE TIME.
IT UPSETS ME.
IT INFURIATES ME.
IT'S EVEN WORSE WHEN IT'S SOMEBODY WHOSE FAMILY THAT I'M SUPER CLOSE TO.
LIKE.
LIKE DOM AND AND HIS SON.
SO YEAH, I THINK I TEXT YOU.
THEY GOT TO BE A YEAR AWAY FROM FROM THIS BEING ILLEGAL.
HAVE TO.
ENOUGH'S ENOUGH WITH THE WITH THE DROP.
>> IS IT ILLEGAL IN THE NFL?
>> IT'S ILLEGAL NOW WITH THE TWIST.
YES.
>> ADD THAT IN THERE.
WHAT ABOUT THE QUARTERBACK LINEUP BEHIND LATEEF?
>> SEAN JALYN GRAMSTAD WOULD BE YOUR NUMBER TWO THEN.
>> GRANDDAD.
>> GRANDDAD MARCUS DAVILA IS GOING TO GO BACK TO THREE.
NO, HE DIDN'T TRAVEL TO THE TWO PREVIOUS ROAD GAMES.
SO YOUR THREE SPOTS OBVIOUSLY A GUY THAT'S NOT BEEN ON THE ROAD WITH THE TEAM OF THE PURDUE TRANSFER.
BUT YEAH, GRAMSTAD I MEAN YOU GOT TO BE PREPARED FOR HIM TO PLAY BECAUSE IF YOU'RE GOING TO RUN THE QUARTERBACK LIKE WE THINK LATEEF IS GOING TO RUN, HE'S GOING TO BE SUSPECT TO A HIT OR TWO.
SO THAT NUMBER TWO GUY HAS TO BE READY TO GO THIS WEEK.
JUST NOT KNOWING WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE TRUE FRESHMAN UTAH.
>> DAMPIER HAD 87 YARDS RUSHING.
NEW MEXICO'S QUARTERBACK HAD 85 YARDS RUSHING.
DREW FOWLER, PENN STATE HAD 92 YARDS RUSHING, MALIK WASHINGTON HAD 67 AND MENDOZA HAD 45 ON JUST FIVE CARRIES.
PEOPLE RUN THE BALL THAT ARE QUARTERBACKS AGAINST THIS TEAM.
>> IT'S JUST HARD BECAUSE THERE'S NO FREE SAFETY, RIGHT.
YOU'RE PLAYING 11 ON 11.
SO IT'S IT'S MANO A MANO YOUR GUY AGAINST OUR GUY.
AND I'M JUST CURIOUS TO SEE HE'S SO WELL LIKED.
HE KIND OF HAS THIS CHARISMA AND THE GUYS WILL RALLY FOR HIM.
I'M EXCITED TO SEE HOW EVERYBODY WANTS TO STEP UP AND DO THEIR PART FOR HIM.
>> DWAYNE SAYS ON TWITTER.
I GIVE THIS TO YOU, JAY, HE SAYS, I THINK BUTLER IS DOING A GREAT JOB AS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR.
I DON'T THINK PEOPLE REALIZE HOW YOUNG AND UNDERSIZED THE D LINE IS.
>> YEAH, THEY ARE YOUNG, I DON'T THERE'S SOME BIG BOYS UP THERE AND I DON'T THINK.
>> I'M GLAD YOU'RE NOT BUYING.
>> INTO THAT.
>> THEY'RE NOT UNDERSIZED PEOPLE.
I'VE STOOD NEXT TO THEM AT PRACTICE LIKE KEONA DAVIS ELIJAH JEUDY MORE.
THERE'S SOME BIG BOYS NOW.
YEAH, THEY ARE.
>> YOUNG.
>> A 300 POUNDER.
THAT'S.
I THINK THAT'S WHAT.
>> SURE.
>> BUT I THINK THEY'RE JUST.
[MUSIC] IT'S THE IT'S AGAIN, IT'S HOW THEY'RE ATTACKING AND DBS ONTO THIS.
YOU GOT TO KIND OF PICK AND CHOOSE RIGHT NOW.
YEAH.
IF THEY HAD IF TRUST ME THE RUN GAME WILL BE A LITTLE BIT BETTER NEXT YEAR WITH KIONA AND NORRIE AND SOME OF THOSE OTHER YOUNG GUYS THAT THEY'RE GOING TO BRING IN.
BUT YEAH, YOU GOT TO KIND OF PICK AND CHOOSE HOW YOU WANT TO ATTACK.
YOU WANT TO LIMIT EXPLOSIVE PLAYS, RIGHT?
AND YOU WANT TO DO THAT LIMIT THROUGH THE AIR.
SO THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE TRYING TO DO AND THEY'VE BEEN DARN GOOD AT DOING IT I GET IT.
YOU WANT TO BE PERFECT BUT IT'S IT'S HARD TO BE PERFECT.
>> SO HOW IMPORTANT IS IT GOING BACK TO LA PERFORM?
WELL THEY'RE GETTING A LOT OF GUYS OUT OF THERE.
YOU GOT PEOPLE THAT ARE GOING HOME GIVING A LOT OF TICKETS THIS WEEKEND.
>> WELL, YEAH.
AND ESPECIALLY NOW WITH THE BIG TEN AND THE TEAMS OUT WEST I MEAN FOR NEBRASKA, THEY'RE ALWAYS GOING TO GO WEST FOR ONE TRIP A YEAR.
SO IT'S JUST A NATURAL FIT FOR NEBRASKA TO TRY TO GET, YOU KNOW, ONE, 2 OR 3 GUYS A YEAR FROM THAT PART OF THE COUNTRY.
AND I THINK THERE'S ABOUT I THINK THERE'S 5 OR 6 LA AREA GUYS CURRENTLY ON THE TEAM, AND THEN A NUMBER OF WEST COAST GUYS FROM PLACES LIKE PHOENIX THAT ARE EXCITED FOR THIS TRIP.
>> FORMER HIGH SCHOOL QUARTERBACK DAMON BENNING, YOU'RE DYLAN RAIOLA.
WHAT'S THE BEST ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE TJ GOING FORWARD THE REST.
>> OF THE SEASON?
>> I THINK IT'S TRUST, RIGHT?
IT'S YOU KNOW, I HOPE NEBRASKA SHUTS HIM DOWN KIND OF FROM THE MEDIA THIS YEAR OR THIS YEAR THIS WEEK.
AND JUST TRUST IN THE GAME PLAN.
THERE'S A LOT OF NERVES.
AND HE'S GOING BACK HOME AND HE'S A CALIFORNIA KID.
ALL THAT ASIDE, I THINK IT'S JUST TRUST YOUR TEAMMATES.
THOSE GUYS WILL RISE TO THE OCCASION.
THE DEFENSE IS DIALED IN.
THEY KNOW THEY'VE GOT TO STEP UP.
I JUST THINK 90 4K STATE GOING TO MANHATTAN.
OH YEAH.
EVERYBODY WAS CHOMPING AT THE BIT TO SEE WHERE THEY COULD FIT GET IN WHERE THEY FIT IN.
BECAUSE OF HOW WELL TURMAN WAS RECEIVED.
I SEE A LOT OF THAT.
>> IN HOW MANY CARRIES DID LP HAVE IN THAT GAME WITH A BROKEN THUMB?
>> YEAH.
>> WELL.
>> LISTEN, WE SAT AROUND AND LOOKED AT OURSELVES AND WE WERE LIKE, OH, WE CAN HELP OUT TOO.
>> YEAH.
NO DOUBT.
GET SOME HELP.
NO DOUBT.
>> ABOUT IT.
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.
WHAT DO YOU WHAT DO YOU THINK IN TERMS OF ANY BIG EXPLOSIVE PLAYS?
DO YOU EXPECT MORE OF THAT?
BECAUSE I KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF QUESTIONS ASKING HERE.
TRICK PLAYS, THROWING THE BALL DOWN THE FIELD.
>> MORE POTENTIALLY.
I MEAN YOU COULD UTILIZE SOME OF THAT.
AGAIN, IT'S JUST YOU GOT TO PICK AND CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES WHERE YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE YOUR SHOTS.
IF YOU GET A GOOD RUN GAME GOING BOOM HEAVY PLAY ACTION OVER THE TOP.
TAKE YOUR SHOTS.
YEAH.
>> BURNING QUESTION SEAN.
>> MY BURNING QUESTION IS WHAT WILL THIS GAME PLAN LOOK LIKE FOR TJ LATEEF TO COME OUT AND HAVE SUCCESS?
YOU KNOW, DANA HOLGORSEN IS PUTTING SOMETHING TOGETHER AS WE SPEAK TO TRY TO GIVE LATEEF, OBVIOUSLY HIS BEST OPPORTUNITY ON SATURDAY.
>> HOW MOTIVATED ARE YOU COMING OFF OF WHAT YOU FELT LIKE WAS A GOOD PERFORMANCE AGAINST USC AND ONE YOU LET GET AWAY?
HOW MOTIVATED ARE YOU, NICO?
>> I NEED.
>> MORE WORK ON THAT.
>> KEEPING HIM IN THE POCKET.
HE IS.
HE IS ATHLETIC.
HE IS DYNAMIC IN THAT SPOT, KEEPING THAT YOUNG D-LINE, KEEPING HIM IN THE POCKET TO LIMIT HIS HIS SCRAMBLE.
>> MY BURNING QUESTION IS, CAN NEBRASKA WIN THE THIRD QUARTER?
IT'S THE ONLY QUARTER THEY'RE LOSING SO FAR THIS SEASON.
WIN THE THIRD QUARTER OUT OF HALFTIME.
YOU CAN WIN THE GAME.
