Now we're gonna roll out our paper.
Can you help mommy roll it that way?
So I use art to help my son practice writing letters.
First we lay out some paints and a huge sheet of paper.
Then we grab his favorite toy truck and get to work.
We're gonna do your name, so I think you're gonna start down there with your A.
We roll the truck in the paint, then use it to write the words.
He's following the hand motions while using something other than a pencil.
It's a creative way to work on fine motor skills.
Can you do a letter?
(gasps) A b?
Nice!
Art can also help with critical thinking, which is good for literacy.
This project is messy but fun, and it keeps him excited and curious about learning.
