Clip: Episode 4 | 1m 24sVideo has Closed Captions
A telegram, a father's walk home and a halted dance: Luverne mourns a Marine killed on Saipan.
In July 1944, word spread through Rock County, Minnesota, that a telegram was coming for Ray Lester of Magnolia, a father with four sons to worry about. Rock County Star Herald editor Al McIntosh recorded how Lester learned which son had been killed on Saipan, and how the dance in town stopped out of respect for the fallen Marine.
