Now children's Brook is a very special place.
It has been set aside so only people who are under 16 years of age can go fishing.
There every year.
Warner Fish and Game holds a fishing derby for all the kids.
They, stock the stream in early spring over Easter school vacation, and then two days later, the gun goes off and the fish in Derby starts.
Believe it or not, the first year my boys entered the Fishing Derby.
They won.
The oldest boy won the, fastest catch.
He caught his limit six fish in a very short period of time.
The second year they entered the fishing derby.
Little brother won the fishing derby.
So I thought, who knew?
Look, I'm.
Raising fishing geniuses.
Well, it wasn't until the third year of the fishing derby that mom finally caught on.
They didn't win anything that year.
And I thought, what's up?
Well, apparently the other kids had figured out that they, too, could build a dam a half a mile downstream from the fish and Game cabin and create a little pond, and so that when the gun went off for the fishing derby, they'd jump on their bikes, race down to the dam and the little pond they'd built.
It would be full of fish, and so they too could catch their limit very quickly.
It doesn't take much to catch a lot of fish when they're in a tiny little pond.
So I look back on those days of dishonesty and I smile.
My two boys turned out to be pretty good citizens, and I will say that even now, they'll still go off together looking for those secret fishing places that nobody else knows about.
And that's my story.
