Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipWhen the first British colonies were established, controlled by a king, the people here, tribal people had true freedom, true liberty.
Our relationship with the creator and with the land was as one.
There was no greater liberties at that point in time.
We spoke freely.
We live freely, guided by the creator.
Liberty is knowing that I should never take everything for granted or anything for granted.
freedom, as it is said, it is never free.
Liberty means that I am able to make my choices in life and walk freely, without any and anybody else worrying about me, telling me what to do.
Telling me how to do it.
Telling me where I can go and how to go.
What to wear or anything.
Liberty.
It gives me all of those freedoms.
Not just the freedoms within the Constitution, but human freedoms, human freedoms to be who we want to be.
Not based on anything else, but what's in our heart.
Liberty comes, freedom comes from within us and how we treat other people.
And so to be truly free and to have that liberty, we have to be free within ourselves to treat everybody as we would like to be treated ourselves.
As we celebrate 250 years of American independence this year, KSPS PBS encourages you to continue the conversation about liberty with your family and friends.
