Is Biochar part of a solution to reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere?

Growers today are using Biochar, which is created by converting organic matter into charcoal through pyrolysis. The resulting carbon-based Biochar can be used to enhance soils or purify polluted, waste water. The creation of Biochar also reduces carbon dioxide gases and is being touted as part of the solution in reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
