No chew holes in the cockpit, Koki!
Uh, Jimmy, I think someone'’’s picking the lock on your fridge.
Hey!
Don'’’t even think about taking that mango.
Oh, there goes my midnight snack.
So that finger'’’s for picking locks?
I'’’m starting to see what they meant by woodpecker-ish... the tapping, the hole-chewing, the long finger... Get those Wild Kratt kids with the clubhouse on the line, and the Kratt brothers too.
I think I'’’m ready to guess what kind of creature this is.
Aye-aye, Aviva!
Tortuga to North American Creature Club.
Come in.
(Communicator humming) Katie and Aidan here!
Good morning Koki!
Hi Aviva!
It'’’s actually night-time here in Madagascar.
We'’’re on the other side of the world.
Cool, good night then.
Hey, do you still have pileated woodpeckers around your tree fort?
Sure do!
Headbanger'’’s right outside.
Great, can you show me how they hunt food again?
BOTH: Sure!
Okay, Chris, Martin, are you there too?
Yup.
So you think you know what he is?
Sure do!
Check this out.
So the first thing a woodpecker does to find food is tap on a tree, looking for hollows, right?
Yeah, he'’’s doing it right now.
See, little taps and then he listens trying to hear little bugs inside the tunnels.
AVIVA: Which is just what little Goblin does.
MARTIN: Yeah, and watch this adult do it, 8 taps a second, then she listens for grubs with those amazing ears.
So tap to find a tunnel and then step two...
He drills down into it.
With that super strong sharp beak!
And our goblin creatures?
Same thing, but with her super sharp teeth instead of a beak.
And then, when Headbanger gets to the tunnels, he shoots his long spiky tongue into the tunnel and pulls out the bug.
And she does the same, but with her special, super long, super skinny, super bendable finger!
So, I'’’m ready to guess what creature it is.
BOTH: Okay, let'’’s hear it.
Okay, they do the same thing as woodpeckers, catch bugs in wood!
BOTH: Exactly!
And since Madagascar is the land of lemurs and there never have been woodpeckers here, a lemur started to evolve that could get at those tasty little grubs.
So, I think he'’’s a lemur who just looks really weird because he has some really special features.
Features he needs to catch the same food as a woodpecker does.
You got it right Aviva!
Wahoo!
Yes!
I knew it!
